Woody Allen Reveals Title, Plot & Cast for His New Paris Project

Woody Allen

Over the past couple months we've had snippets of casting here and there for Woody Allen's upcoming summer project which will follow You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. However, because of how secretive Allen has been with all his projects, no details on the plot or even a title were revealed until now as Variety reports his film will be titled Midnight in Paris. No it's not a quirky, self-deprecating comedic approach to Paris Hilton's sex tape (thankfully, I guess?), but rather a romantic comedy that follows a family traveling to Paris for business, including a young engaged couple whose lives are transformed while on the journey.

Shocking! The Last Airbender is Being Converted to 3D, Too

The Last Airbender

It's getting to the point where the only news about 3-D should be when a film isn't heading into the third dimension, but I digress. Add another movie onto the pile of 3-D flicks coming out this year as Deadline reports M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, an adaptation of the Nickelodeon series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," will be given a post-production conversion to 3-D. Of course, the recent success of Clash of the Titans in 3-D (no matter how shitty the conversion) is driving the market, but apparently Stereo D, the company that worked on James Cameron's Avatar will oversee the conversion, so there is some hope.

Crazies Director Breck Eisner to Helm Escape from New York

Escape from New York

After going through development with other directors like Len Wiseman and Brett Ratner, it looks like the Escape from New York remake finally has some sturdy legs. Along with Allan Loeb's re-energizing draft of the script, Heat Vision reports that Breck Eisner, who recently directed the intense horror/action flick The Crazies, is in negotiations to direct the film. The updated story mixes an origin story for anti-hero Snake Plissken and merged it with the story of the 1981 original. All that remains to be seen is exactly who will step into Snake's boots, who is actually contractually obligated to always wear and eye patch and be a bad-ass.

Green Hornet Pushed to Early 2011, Plus Obviously Going 3D

Seth Rogen / Green Hornet

Over the last week or so, reports about Sony being unhappy with The Green Hornet have hit the web, but we haven't covering any of them (don't really care). Deadline reports that Sony has officially delayed the release of Michel Gondry's film until January 14th, 2011, which is three weeks back from December 22nd. Although some claim the film is "unreleasable," Sony's vice-chair Jeff Blake says that's all just BS. They're converting it to 3D because "We've seen part of the movie. We love it. We believe in it. Whoever is spreading these rumors has not seen it. We're going to finish Green Hornet in 3D and take 9 months to do it right."

Mickey Rourke to Play Genghis Khan in New John Milius Film

Mickey Rourke

Now this will be interesting to see! Actor Mickey Rourke revealed to the Orlando Sentinel recently (via The Wrap) that he will be playing Genghis Khan in a new biopic movie being directed by John Milius. "I’m playing Genghis," Rourke said. "John wrote [the] piece [as] told from the son and grandson’s point of view, how they saw this mythic figure from their family. You see him in flashbacks, back when he was in his mid-40s." Interesting concept and bold to cast Rourke in the role. I'll say that he has the potential to knock it out of the park with this one, although Milius hasn't directed anything since Rough Riders on TV in 1997.

Helen Mirren Joining Russell Brand in That 'Arthur' Remake

Helen Mirren / Russell Brand

As much hate as I have for plenty of remakes coming around the bend, I will admit that this remake of the classic 1981 Dudley Moore comedy Arthur definitely has my interest, if only because this remake seems tailored for British comedian Russell Brand. Well now a great dame has joined the cast as THR reports that Helen Mirren will star in this Jason Winer directed remake. In the original film, Arthur's valet (portrayed by John Gielgud, who won a best supporting actor Oscar for his performance) is an integral part to the story and Arthur's life, but in this update, that role has been turned into Arthur's nanny to be played by Mirren.

Two More Final IMAX Posters for Marvel's Iron Man 2 Arrive

Iron Man 2

Speaking of Marvel Studios, they've just unveiled two brand new IMAX-specific posters for Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2, which hits theaters in just a few weeks. We've seen so much from this movie at this point, that I'm hesitant about debuting anything new this late in the game, but these posters are pretty frickin' badass and therefore I'm happy to feature them today anyway. Plus, the movie is out in a few weeks, and everyone should be getting excited, so this will only help fuel that excitement a bit more. Also, don't forget that Iron Man 2 will be showing in IMAX everywhere on the same day it's released. Check out the new posters below!

Marvel Planning Lower Scale Films with Third Tier Characters

Dr. Strange

Obviously superheroes are going full tilt in the Marvel camp as we slowly but surely lead into the highly anticipated, larger than life, superhero ensemble flick The Avengers. So what else does Marvel have to do? Luckily they have a plethora of other characters, though maybe not as well known as Iron Man or Captain America, who have a future on the big screen as CHUD says they've discovered Marvel Studios is meeting with various writers and directors to work on smaller scale movies based on their third tier characters like Dr. Strange (seen above), Luke Cage and another superhero ensemble known as the Power Pack.

Platinum Dunes Friday the 13th Sequel is Now Officially 'Dead'

Friday the 13th

Right out of left field comes some disappointing news for all you Jason Vorhees fans. Bloody-Disgusting had their attention called to an exchange on Twitter between a fellow movie lover and Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller. When asked how the Friday the 13th sequel was coming along, Fuller simply said: "It is dead - not happening." Eager to follow-up on this surprising news, Bloody Disgusting contacted Fuller who confirmed, "Right now there is no movement on Friday 13th: Part 2." Some shocking news for a film that was supposed to be released in August this year, but now appears to be dead in the waters of Crystal Lake.

'Protection' Loses Director & Clive Owen for Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson

In January, we received word that director Simon West and actor Paul Walker had been replaced by the duo of Patrick Alessandrin (of District 13: Ultimatum) and Clive Owen in the action flick Protection. Now it looks like we have another change in the talent line-up as The Wrap reports Alessandrin has left the project and Dwayne Johnson has replaced Owen in the film about a disgraced ex-Special Forces soldier who takes on a Mexican cartel in an attempt to rescue and protect a judge's 21 year-old daughter, who has been targeted by the cartel for agreeing to testify against a member after she witnesses her father's murder.

Seth Rogen & Chris Pine Desired for McG's 'This Means War'

Seth Rogen & Chris Pine

We heard back in February that Bradley Cooper was joining Reese Witherspoon in the new McG directed action comedy This Means War. But then a week later came news that Cooper had to drop either because the schedule overlapped with The Hangover 2 or because he had creative concerns with the project. But now The Wrap reports the search is on to replace Cooper, and Seth Rogen and Chris Pine are desired for one of two lead roles in this story of two best buds whose friendship is put to the test when a woman moves into their spare room. As they fight for her affections, New York City is literally left demolished in their wake.

The Hangover Meets Grumpy Old Men with Jack Nicholson?

Jack Nicholson

After the wild success of last year's comedy hit The Hangover, you can bet the spec script market and pitch room is being crowded with descriptions like, "It's like The Hangover meets [insert any other movie here]." But in this case, this might actually be a comedy worth enduring as Vulture reports an offer is out to Jack Nicholson to star in a comedy called LASt VEGAS, which is simply described as The Hangover meets Grumpy Old Men as the story follows four estranged male childhood friends from the fifties who reunite in Vegas to finally marry off Billy, the lifelong unmarried playboy of the group, and that's the Nicholson role.
