Tim Burton Reigniting His Adaptation of Mai The Psychic Girl?

Tim Burton / Mai The Psychic Girl

Some filmmakers might be too busy for their own good. Case in point: Tim Burton. The director is already said to be attached to helm a stop-motion version of The Addams Family and a more imminent stop-motion adaptation of his own short film Frankenweenie, not to mention expressed interest in Disney's evil queen flick Maleficent, producing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and is being courted as a "creative catalyst" for DreamWorks' Monsterpocalypse project. Now Latino Review says Burton has re-acquired and is quickly restarting a gestating adaptation of Mai, The Psychic Girl, which is quite the popular manga from Japan.

Check This Out: Salt's 'Day X Exists' Game Experience Trailer

Day X Exists Viral Trailer

Who is Salt? I still don't really know what this Day X Exists viral game experience for Sony's Salt movie is all about, but they've launched a new trailer to try and explain a little bit and get people involved in it. Salt is that Angelina Jolie double-agent spy thriller that is hitting this summer (watch the trailer) and the big viral for the movie is a huge game "experience" they're launching this summer called Day X Exists (visit the site at: dayxexists.com). It says there are 9 missions users must complete and they all look highly interactive, so if you're a fan of virals or looking forward to Salt at all, this is definitely something you should check out!

Disney Spends Lots of Money for a Live-Action Cinderella Pitch

Cinderella

Disney, the new king of Hollywood, is looking for more big projects to follow Enchanted, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and the upcoming Sorcerer's Apprentice, so how about a live-action Cinderella? Deadline reports that Disney has paid upwards of a million for a pitch for Cinderella (the not-so-original title for this), a live-action re-imagining of that classic fairy tale that we're all very familiar with (at least I hope everyone is). The script is being written by Aline Brosh McKenna, of Laws of Attraction, The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, and the upcoming Morning Glory. Beyond that, there's not much more we know about this yet.

Ewan McGregor Cast in Terry Gilliam's Don Quixote Project!

Ewan McGregor

Through all the problems that Terry Gilliam has had getting his long gestating Don Quixote project off the ground the director has maintained that Johnny Depp would certainly still be a part of the project. But it looks like Pirates of the Caribbean 4 has stopped Depp from joining Gilliam on this misadventure as Empire caught up with Gilliam at the Cannes Film Festival where he revealed that Ewan McGregor has stepped up to take the role once filled by Depp. However, going off the disjointed facts that Robert Duvall mentioned last month, we're not entirely sure of any specifics surrounding McGregor's character in this strange story.

Casting Tidbits: Carla Gugino, Jessica Biel and Dustin Hoffman

Carla Gugino, Jessica Biel, Dustin Hoffman

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very Casting Tidbits that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. First, THR reports Carla Gugino and Stanley Tucci will join Kevin Spacey and Zachary Quinto in Margin Call, a corporate thriller about eight people at a prominent investment bank in a tumultuous 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis as the characters struggle to position themselves ahead of the coming storm. The film will mark the feature directorial debut of J.C. Chandor, who also wrote the script. Read on!

First Look: Tarsem Singh's 'Immortals' Epic with Henry Cavill

Tarsem Singh's Immortals

Although we just saw Clash of the Titans last month, another new Greek gods epic is on the way, as Indian director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) is currently working on a project called Immortals. Originally titled War of the Gods, this stars Henry Cavill as Theseus and Mickey Rourke as villain King Hyperion. I mention those two specifically because they're included in two of the photos below that were discovered on the IAmRogue.com website (via both SlashFilm & The Playlist). Tarsem has also been recording video blogs that you can check out right here. These aren't the best shots, but they are our very first look at Immortals.

Ghibli's Tales from Earthsea Finally Hits Theaters This August

Tales from Earthsea

By hitting theaters, I mean US theaters, because Tales from Earthsea actually hit theaters in Japan way, way back in 2006. Disney has announced (via Ain't It Cool News) that the film will hit theaters on August 13th, the same fall release date they gave to Ponyo last year. This release will also be re-dubbed into English (damn them!) and feature voices from Timothy Dalton, Willem Dafoe, Cheech Marin and Mariska Hargitay. That's also exactly why I will not be seeing this, because I hate dubbed Studio Ghibli movies and didn't like Ponyo's English version (I prefer subtitles). But I am at least happy to see Ghibli movies hitting US theaters.

Zoe Saldana Targeting Lead Role in Assassin Film Columbiana

Zoe Saldana

After having a sensational career breakthrough last year starring in two of 2009's biggest flicks, Star Trek and Avatar, Zoe Saldana is becoming quite the household name and she's even had two flicks released in 2010 already (The Losers and the Death at a Funeral remake). Now aside from upcoming sequels for Avatar and Star Trek, the actress has another role in sights as Heat Vision reports she has entered into negotiations to star in Columbiana, a Luc Besson produced assassin flick which is supposed to start shooting at the end of the summer with Transporter 3 director Olivier Megaton (yes, that's his real last name) at the helm.

Mark Hamill Directing an Adaptation of His 'Black Pearl' Comic

Mark Hamill / Black Pearl

Though he will always be known as Luke Skywalker, actor Mark Hamill has made a decent living outside of Star Wars by lending his voice to an insane amount of animated programming including a recurring role as The Joker in "Batman: The Animated Series" and several DC Comics' series and feature length spin-offs. However, aside from his acting, he also wrote his own comic book, The Black Pearl, which we heard last month might become a film adaptation to be directed by Hamill himself. At the time, we were to wait until Cannes for an official announcement, so now with the festival in full swing, confirmation has hit in Variety.

Christopher Walken Joins the Cast of Action Comedy 'Wild Oats'

Christopher Walken

Who doesn't love Christopher Walken? No one! THR reports that Walken is currently negotiating to join the cast of the forthcoming action comedy Wild Oats directed by Scott Marshall. The cast includes Shirley MacLaine, Maria Bello, Christina Ricci, John Corbett and Bill Pullman in a story about a widow who finds herself heading to Las Vegas with her granddaughter after a pile of money falls in her lap. I'm guessing that whoever lost that money will actually go after them, hence the "action" part of this. Shooting is scheduled to begin in Connecticut and Nevada this August. The script for this was written by newcomer Claudia Myers.

Terrence Howard Might Play Marvin Gaye for Cameron Crowe

Terrence Howard / Marvin Gaye

Back at the beginning on April, we had heard that writer/director Cameron Crowe had been quietly working for the past three years on a biopic focusing on superstar R&B/soul recording artist Marvin Gaye. At the time, a budget was still being formulated which was heavily dependent on who would be stepping up to play the iconic Motown singer/songwriter. Will Smith apparently already turned down the project, but Deadline reports Crowe just might have his man as Terrence Howard himself has mentioned that he's been talking with Crowe about taking on the role but is careful to mention that, "Nothing's been signed on paper yet."

Indie Teaser Sunday: New Promo for Nazi Sci-Fi Film Iron Sky

Iron Sky Teaser

In 1945 The Nazis Went To The Moon. In 2018 They Are Coming Back. Yes, that is the actual tagline for this crazy new sci-fi film from Finland, of all places, called Iron Sky. You've probably heard about it before, as we wrote a story last year reporting that it had received enough funding to start shooting. This isn't really an indie trailer more than it is an awesome, unique, fun foreign teaser trailer, but that's exactly why I wanted to feature it today anyway. This early promo comes from Quiet Earth and although the video alludes otherwise, they assure us that all of this is real footage that will appear in the movie in the end. Can't wait to see this!
