Danny McBride & Aziz Ansari Working on Two New Comedies

Danny McBride & Aziz Ansari

Though the two thriving actors/comedians Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari are already starring together in Ruben Fleischer's upcoming pizza delivery boy fueled action comedy 30 Minutes or Less, it looks like the two will be teaming up again as Deadline reports the comedy duo has signed on to star in a untitled comedy for Mandate Pictures and McBride's Rough House production banner which he runs with collaborators Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. Though the logline is being kept under wraps, the film comes from a pitch by Ansari and "30 Rock" writer Matt Hubbard with the script written by "Parks & Rec" writer Harris Wittels.

After 'Conspirator' Redford Directing 'The Company You Keep'

Robert Redford directing The Conspirator

So what do producers like Nicholas Chartier and Greg Shapiro do after winning the Academy Award for Best Picture earlier this year for The Hurt Locker? Chariter says: "I still have exactly the same agenda: Try to find one movie every year that has a little more risk and higher profile." It looks like he may have found that film as Variety briefly mentions one of their future endeavors will see Robert Redford direct an adaptation of Neil Gordon's novel The Company You Keep from a screenplay by writer Lem Dobbs who has frequently collaborated with Steven Soderbergh on films like The Limey and, most recently, the spy thriller Knockout.

Another New Robin Hood Trailer Three Days Before Release?

Robin Hood

Getting a bit desperate, Universal? Who releases an entirely new trailer for a big summer movie due out later that week? Maybe it's all those mixed-to-negative reviews that Ridley Scott's Robin Hood has been getting from screenings over the last week or so. Or the knowledge that the movie ends right when the real tale of Robin Hood is supposed to begin? Anyway, yes there is a brand frickin' new trailer for Robin Hood which you can watch via Hulu below (that means only US viewers). I'm seeing Robin Hood in Cannes in a few days, so I'm just planning to go in and watch it, no need to see any more trailers at this point. Enjoy!

We've already heard that Clive Owen would be facing off against Jason Statham for the indie action-thriller The Killer Elite and that Dominic Purcell would be joining the cast in some capacity. Well now Australia's Herald Sun reports (and Moviehole confirms) that Robert De Niro and the absolutely gorgeous Yvonne Strahovski ("Chuck") have also joined the cast of the film which is already shooting down in Melbourne, Australia. The story follows a group of former British special forces being hunted by a team of assassins led by Statham's character, a former Navy Seal. Some slight spoilers follow in the character description below.

Terrence Howard, Dwayne Johnson, Vera Farmiga

Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm here to talk to you about the Casting Tidbits Initiative. First up, THR reports Terrence Howard will portray Nelson Mandela in Winnie, a biopic of the former wife of the first black president of South Africa. Being directed by veteran South African filmmaker Darrell J. Roodt (who also co-wrote the script with Andre Pieterse and Paul L. Johnson) the story's focus ranges from her image as a mother, wife and steadfast supporter of her activist husband, to campaigning for his release from jail and fight against apartheid. Winnie Mandela will be played by Jennifer Hudson in the film as well. Read on!

Alex is Heading to the Cannes Film Festival Again This Year!

Cannes Film Festival

We're headed to France again! I'm currently in Paris, spending a few days here before taking a train down through the French countryside to Cannes. For my second year in a row, I will be attending and covering the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on Wednesday, May 12th this week, and lasts until Sunday, May 23rd (I return home on the 24th). I'm formally announcing this for a couple of reasons. First, to let you know posting may be a bit more sporadic than before only because the time difference is a bit big (nine hours from Los Angeles). Second, to ask you what kind of coverage from Cannes you'd like to see from us?

Anthony Hopkins Cast as a Villain in 'Arabian Nights' Remake

Anthony Hopkins

In November we got word that the Hollywood remake machine was pumping out a new remake of the 1942 classic Arabian Nights courtesy of director Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King). The story follows a young commander (played by Liam Hemsworth, brother of Thor's Chris Hemsworth) who, after his king is killed in a coup, joins forces with Sinbad, Ali Baba and the Genie from the magic lamp to rescue the queen. Though Russell's involvement left something to be desired, Hemsworth makes things a little bit more interesting as does news from Heat Vision today that Anthony Hopkins is in negotiations to play the villain in the film.

Jerry Bruckheimer Confirms 'Hopes & Dreams' of Bad Boys 3

Bad Boys

While there's a set of threequel's in store for both Martin Lawrence (Big Momma's House 3) and Will Smith (Men in Black 3), the two actors have another in the works that brings them both together for the third time. I'm talking of course about Bad Boys 3, and while we heard last August that screenwriter Peter Craig, who wrote The Town for Ben Affleck, was going to take a crack at the script, we haven't heard much since, other than Lawrence's hopes that it would come together sooner than later. Well, now it looks like super producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also up for a third go round but it's something that they're building to gradually.

Check This Out: Olivier Assayas' 'Carlos' Official Cannes Poster

Carlos

Speaking of the Cannes Film Festival, an awesome new poster for French director Olivier Assayas' new film Carlos has debuted on D*Hollywood. The film is a five hour feature (cut into a three-part mini-series for French television) about Venezuelan revolutionary Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, aka Carlos the Jackal, who founded a worldwide terrorist organization and raided the OPEC headquarters in 1975 before being caught by the French police. This poster reminds me a lot of the Lord of War poster with Nic Cage's face on it, but with this face created out of the destruction that Carlos is responsible for. Pretty impressive. Check it out!

Indie Trailer Sunday: Father of My Children Official US Trailer

Father of My Children Trailer

As I embark on my trip to Cannes this year, I've been thinking back to last year's fest, and one of my favorite films I saw there was The Father of My Children, directed by Mia Hansen-Løve. I've got to say, this is one of the best films I've seen in the last few years. It's a wonderful drama about a movie producer in Paris and his struggles to balance the stress of his work and family. If you see this, and I hope a lot of you do, you will be absolutely stunned by the film. It's incredibly powerful and heartwarming in ways I can't even begin to explain. I really can't suggest it enough, even if you're not a fan of French films. Watch the trailer below!

A Patriotic Shield and More Marvel Easter Eggs in Iron Man 2

Captain America Shield

By now I'm sure everyone knows that there's a certain mythical weapon featured in a secret scene at the end of the credits in Iron Man 2, but that's not the only Easter egg in it. The other big one is the appearance of Captain America's shield once again (as seen above). That same exact shield, maybe even the same prop piece, appeared in the first Iron Man and became a heated point of debate amongst fans (some thought it was real, others said it was just BS). To me, it seems like Favreau and Marvel wanted to wink at the fans by including it in the film, especially because Tony Stark uses it as a piece of trash. Beware of more spoilers!

Check This Out: Another New Photo for Matt Reeves' Let Me In

Matt Reeves' Let Me In

A few days ago we brought you the very first photo of Chloe Moretz as Abby in Matt Reeves' remake of Let the Right One In. It seems that photo might've riled up some fanboys, as the LA Times has now published their own first look at Let Me In featuring an interview with director Matt Reeves address topics such as how this will not be anything like Cloverfield, which he directed, and why this remake isn't such a terrible after all. This photo shows Kodi Smit-McPhee as Owen giving a Rubiks cube to Abby (Moretz), which is a pivotal scene in the original film. "It's not going to feel like a movie with a crazy number of effects," he says.
