Phil Alden Robinson Writing J.J. Abrams' Diamond Heist Film

Diamond Heist - Bad Robot

Remember that story we wrote last year about J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot picking up the rights to "The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond Heist"? More than a year has passed since that news hit, and they've just now finally found someone to start writing the script. Heat Vision reports that Phil Alden Robinson, who wrote and directed Field of Dreams, co-wrote Sneakers, and last directed The Sum of All Fears, will pen this untitled heist project setup at Bad Robot and Paramount. Robinson isn't attached to direct at the moment, but you never know what could happen in the end, since Abrams probably won't direct it either.

Paul Greengrass Will Not Direct That Fantastic Voyage Remake

Fantastic Voyage

Though we heard at the end of March that director Paul Greengrass (Green Zone, Bourne Ultimatum) would helm the remake of the 1966 sci-fi flick Fantastic Voyage Deadline reports he has dropped out of the project to focus on developing the newly discovered Warner Bros adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel Treasure Island from Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram. Greengrass was never locked in to direct Fantastic Voyage officially, so this isn't exactly Earth-shattering news, but at the same time, he's also not committed to Treasure Island just yet, as they are still trying to secure a writer.

Whoa - Megan Fox Will Not Be Returning for Transformers 3?

Megan Fox

This is crazy news. Deadline is reporting that Megan Fox will not actually be returning for Transformers 3 at all. Paramount "won't be picking up Megan Fox's option," but it wasn't the studio's decision. Apparently it was "ultimately" director Michael Bay's decision, which now makes us wonder if this is retaliation for all those mean comments Fox made about Bay during the release of Transformers 2 last summer. Although we already know that Bay has been out filming scenes for Transformers 3, Deadline says the script is currently being finished (it is?) and they'll be "giving Shia [LaBeouf] a new love interest." Uh, is this all a big joke?

Cannes Update: I'm Struggling to Find Great Films - But Why?

Cannes Film Festival

As you may have noticed, my coverage of the Cannes Film Festival this year has not been up to par with other festivals or even my coverage of last year's Cannes. It's not that I haven't had the time to do as much coverage, per se, but as the fest goes on I'm starting to feel like it has to do with my lack of excitement, lack of interest, and lack of enthusiasm for this year's line-up. I'm struggling to find great films beyond the ones I've expected to like and I'm not sure whether to say that it's a bad year for films or whether it's the line-up Cannes chose. I'm leaning towards the latter, but I know I'll get crap for saying that, even if it's my opinion.

Writer Nick Stoller On 'The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time'

Muppets

With the success of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the hilarious looking spin-off film Get Him to the Greek featuring Russell Brand reprising his role as raucous British rocker Aldous Snow, director Nick Stoller has quite the magic touch with R-rated comedy. So who would've thought that Stoller and Jason Segel would be the right guys to write a more tame, but potentially no-less-hilarious comedy with The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time, which will be the first Muppet movie since the lackluster '99 film Muppets from Space. ComingSoon recently met up with Stoller who talked about exactly how he's approaching the iconic puppets.

Great Motion Poster for That Ryan Reynolds' Thriller Buried!

Buried Poster

Lionsgate has just debuted a "motion poster" for Buried, that Ryan Reynolds buried alive thriller, over on Yahoo. Last month we debuted the first official teaser poster for Buried, which was an impressive and bold design featuring nothing but a bunch of black space and Reynolds in the coffin. This motion poster is a spin on that original teaser poster but with some additional text and the footage also seen the teaser trailer. I was hesitant about posting this at first, just because it's more of the same stuff we've seen before, but I really like the reveal and the way it's put together, so I thought why not feature it today anyway. Check this out below!

Watch This: Early Promo Teaser Trailer for Iñárritu's Biutiful

Biutiful Teaser Trailer

Our friends over at The Playlist have unveiled an early promo teaser trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu's Biutiful, which just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival a few days ago (read my review). The new teaser features a mix of behind-the-scenes footage and scenes from the film, so I'm warning you going in that this may not be the best way to introduce you to Biutiful, but it has a sample of Gustavo Santaolalla's wonderful score and gives you a sense of the tone and feel. This will probably be one of my favorite films coming out of Cannes, so check this out if you want a very early look at Iñárritu's fantastic new film with Javier Bardem.

Unique Features Lands Deal for Heavy Rain Video Game Movie

Heavy Rain

Remember that really frickin' weird "how far would you go to save someone you love?" video that director Neil LaBute put together in February with a bunch of celebrities? It was made to promote the PlayStation 3 video game Heavy Rain, which has only sold around 1 million units since its release in February. Deadline is reporting that former New Line heads Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne's new company Unique Features is nearing a deal to acquire feature films rights to Heavy Rain for a movie. Apparently Shaye liked the game enough to buy it with his own money without waiting for approval from his first look partner Warner Bros.

Check These Out: Three New International Predators Posters

Predators

Fear is Reborn. The countdown has begun for Robert Rodriguez & Nimród Antal's Predators, now that the summer movie season has kicked off. Our Italian friends from BadTaste.it have informed us that three new international posters for Predators have debut on three different sites. The first one is a red wash version of one of the other posters, so I've cropped it and used it above, but you can also see the other two new posters below. One of them comes from ScreenWeek.it and the other comes from ComingSoon.it. Interesting to see that Adrien Brody is the strongest biggest point of this movie. Looking forward to watching it this summer!

Brad Pitt's Lost City Of Z Adaptation Gaining Steam in Cannes

The Lost City Of Z / Brad Pitt

Back in 2008 we wrote a few articles reporting that We Own the Night director James Gray would next be directing an adaptation of David Grann's book The Lost City of Z, an epic about a British explorer lost in the Amazon searching for the mythical "City of Z." The project has been in development under the watch of Brad Pitt, who is producing and starring in it. We haven't heard much about this since, but ScreenDaily has an article saying that "buyers have been flocking to" The Lost City of Z at the market in Cannes and that the "red-hot adventure project" may even be Pitt's next film once he finishes Bennett Miller's Moneyball movie.

Favreau Tweets Out First Costume Photo for Cowboys & Aliens

Cowboys & Aliens

Jon Favreau is back at it on Twitter again! During the production of Iron Man 2 last year, Favreau would write occasional tweets and send out random set photos (nothing too revealing) in order to get fans excited. Well, now that Iron Man 2 is out and he's already starting early pre-production on the upcoming Cowboys & Aliens adaptation, he's back on Twitter again revealing our first look at that movie. Favreau tweeted out a camera (and costume) test photo for Cowboys & Aliens last night showing what looks to be Daniel Craig in full-on cowboy gear as our anti-hero Zeke Jackson. It's a pretty nifty little first look, so check it out below!
