Neveldine/Taylor Directing Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance?

Ghost Rider

It's time for Ghost Rider: High Voltage! Heat Vision reports that Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the crazy filmmakers behind Crank, Gamer, and Crank: High Voltage, are now in "early negotiations" to direct the Ghost Rider sequel titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance at Sony. We've been hearing a bit about this sequel, written by David S. Goyer, being in development (and that Cage wants to reboot it), but this is the first I've ever heard of Neveldine/Taylor's involvement. If this all comes together, I honestly think this is the first step in the right direction for potentially re-igniting the Ghost Rider franchise in a very badass way.

Must Watch: Mark Romanek's Never Let Me Go Trailer Arrives

Never Let Me Go Trailer

Fox Searchlight has unveiled quite a surprise today - a strong awards contender for this fall. Apple debuted the official trailer for One Hour Photo director Mark Romanek's new film Never Let Me Go, starring Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield and Sally Hawkins. The film, based on Kazuo Ishiguro's novel, is a drama about three kids and their time at a "seemingly idyllic English boarding school." It covers a few different age ranges, as Knightley, Mulligan & Garfield aren't that young, and has a plot about a love triangle that looks incredible. Sadly I think Keira Knightley is going to be the weakest link, but it still looks fantastic.

Universal's The Thing Prequel Hits Theaters in April Next Year

The Thing

It's back! Mark this date down in your calendars for next year. The "big news" of the day is that The Thing will be returning to theaters in the form of a prequel directed by Dutch filmmaker Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. Universal is currently this shooting up in Toronto and has just set a very early April 29th, 2011 release date next year (via ComingSoon). Either they're making a bold move by launching this one week before the summer (when Marvel's Thor hits), or they just think it'll play well all summer. Either way, that seems like a quick launch for a movie that is just shooting now, but I guess the sooner we get to see it, the better, right?

Louis Leterrier Circling Crazy Sci-Fi Disaster Project 'Gravity'?

Louis Leterrier

Check out this wild and crazy sci-fi concept. Pajiba, who is more reliable than most movie sites, is reporting that they've heard that The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier is interested in a new project called Gravity over at Universal. Now, this isn't the same Gravity that Alfonso Cuaron is developing (that Universal also passed on), instead this is a high concept disaster movie described as "The Day After Tomorrow meets Taken." Sounds epic. So what is it about? It's about a father who has to search for his lost child as the world stops spinning and Earth begins to lose its gravity. As Neo once said: whoa!

Downey Jr Launches Prod. Company with McQueen Heist Film

Robert Downey Jr. & Susan Downey

Robert Downey Jr. and wife/producer Susan Downey have officially launched their new Warner Bros based production company called Team Downey, hiring David Gambino as the president of production. The first project on their slate is called Yucatan, a heist film originally crafted by legendary actor Steve McQueen as a starring vehicle for himself. The script was discovered in "a trunk long after his death" along with some 1700 pages of notes and storyboards, which is why its been a particularly challenging production to get off the ground. But WB has made a new rights deal with McQueen's son, who will now also executive produce.

Oz: The Great & Powerful Directing Gig Offered to Sam Raimi

Sam Raimi

Update: I'm re-posting this news again today as Deadline has confirmed that Sam Raimi has indeed been fully signed and hired to direct Oz: The Great and Powerful. Raimi is moving forward and Disney hopes "that this pic will be a global hit like the billion-dollar-grossing Alice In Wonderland," but the script is being rewritten first before they take more steps forward with the project. Robert Downey Jr, who is supposed to play the Wizard in this origin story, "isn't [fully] set yet" but they're developing it for him. "The movie will happen," Deadline says, so get ready for a Raimi version of Oz in the next few years! Original story follows.

Warner Bros & MGM Want Peter Jackson to Helm The Hobbit

Peter Jackson

An interesting update on The Hobbit situation worth pointing out today. Mike Fleming of Deadline reports that his sources have told him that Warner Bros and MGM are "doing all they can" to get Peter Jackson to agree to direct the two Hobbit movies in place of Guillermo del Toro. Jackson said that he wasn't opposed to the idea a few weeks ago, but wasn't really that interested either, only if they they can't find anyone else and if his other production agreements allows him to fit it in. Well, once you hear some of these alternative candidates, you might crying out for Jackson to direct this highly anticipated adaptation as well. Read on!

First Look: Hugh Jackman & Bot from Shawn Levy's Real Steel

Real Steel First Look

Are you ready to rumbleeee? USA Today has debuted the first photo from upcoming DreamWorks / Disney movie Real Steel being directed by Shawn Levy (of the Night at the Museum films). Hugh Jackman stars as a struggling robot boxing promoter, in the year 2020, who thinks he's found a champion in a discarded robot. However, during his hopeful rise to the top, he also discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father. This first photo is an appropriate tease of the robot, but apparently that thing was actually built in real-life. In fact, 19 different "animatronic giants" were created to shoot with while on set. Zach Galifianakis Hitting the Sea for The Incredible Mr. Limpet

Zach Galifianakis / Incredible Mr. Limpet

Plenty of remakes today not only "benefit" from a cast of favorite actors from today's A-list, but also from modern special effects technology. Case in point - the upcoming remake of the 1964 live-action/animation hybrid family comedy The Incredible Mr. Limpet has state-of-the-art technology to convincingly and much more simply combine animated characters with live-action photography. Now 24 Frames reports after several attempted variations with actors like Jim Carrey and Robin Williams, the remake might get new life with a fresh, popular comedic talent in Zach Galifianakis, who is currently in talks to star in the remake.

Check Out Mélanie Laurent on the UK Poster for 'The Concert'

The Concert Film

Although she has starred in other films besides Inglourious Basterds, I fell in love with Mélanie Laurent watching that film and that is one reason why I'm featuring this UK poster for her new film The Concert. The poster comes from Empire and is only the UK version, since Weinstein Company is releasing this in the summer but hasn't unveiled any US marketing for it. The Concert is a French comedy based on a true story about Andrei Simoniovich Filipov, a renowned conductor of the Bolshoi orchestra, who was fired for hiring too many Jewish musicians and was forced to work as a janitor. Laurent plays violinist Anne-Marie Jacquet.
