Review: Michael Douglas' Brilliance Can't Save 'Solitary Man'
No man is an island, able to walk through life without any connection with those around him. If ever a man did exist, he would more than likely resemble Michael Douglas. Suave, cool and handsome, he would bear a particular likeness to Ben Kalmen, Douglas' character in the new film Solitary Man. Written by Brian Koppelman and directed by Koppelman & David Levien, Solitary Man tells a story of how one moment in Kalmen's life can lead to a Domino effect of events that whittle away all he has. While Douglas is picture-perfect bringing Kalmen to a rather realistic forefront, the film itself is disjointed. Just as Kalmen never
Indie Trailer Sunday: 50th Anniversary of Godard's Breathless
I scoured the web this weekend to find a good indie trailer, but I didn't find much. So instead, I'm featuring this new trailer for the 50th anniversary re-release of Jean-Luc Godard's classic drama Breathless, aka À bout de souffle in French. I'll hesitantly admit that I haven't ever seen Breathless, but that's another reason why I wanted to feature this, because I now need to see this right away. We announced back in March that Breathless was being re-release in theaters this summer (listing of cities here), but we're not sure how soon it will be re-released on DVD/Blu-Ray. Even if you haven't seen Breathless, check this out, it's a lot of fun!

Breck Eisner May Direct a 'Blood of the Innocent' Adaptation
More vampire movies? Yes indeed. Until Twilight stops making money (which will probably be in the year 2015), Hollywood is head over heels for all things vampire. FEARnet (via STYD) has posted a story about a new project that director Breck Eisner (Sahara, The Crazies) is currently developing. They were speaking with comic book author Mark Wheatley who revealed quite a bit about Eisner's future. While he is working on the Escape from New York remake right now, he's recently been pitching an adaptation of the Blood of the Innocent comics, that are described as "Dracula versus Jack the Ripper." Okay, I'll bite (a bad joke).

Sound Off: Harald Zwart's The Karate Kid Remake - Thoughts?
Now that you've all seen it, what did you think? The original, unforgettable Karate Kid hit theaters in 1984 and has since become a true classic, no thanks to an unforgettable performance by Pat Morita. But now it's time for the remake, a contemporary version of a great story of triumph. Hitting theaters this weekend is Sony's The Karate Kid, directed by Harald Zwart, starring Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan and Taraji Henson. So how is it? How does it compare to the original? Are the performances from Jaden and Jackie anything to remembered? If you've seen it, leave a comment below and let us know what you thought of The Karate Kid!

Watch This: Early Promo Trailer for Jerry O'Flaherty's Samurai
Okay, this is just another one of those fantastic proof-of-concept trailers, but it really is awesome and I've got to share it with you guys today. Twitch has debuted a promo trailer for a project called Samurai that will be the directorial debut of Jerry O'Flaherty, who has worked for years as the art director on Epic's Gears of War video game series. They're developing a samurai vs ninja action movie using hyper-stylized action straight from Zack Snyder's 300. But the kicker is that they're using the Unreal 3 video game engine to render the props and environments. And it's pretty damn impressive to see, although it's not in high def.

New Poster for Tekken Movie - The Battle Begins August 5th?
Wait, when did this get a release date? ComicBookMovie.com (via SlashFilm) has uncovered a new official poster for the Dwight Little directed Tekken movie, starring Jon Foo as Jin Kazama, based on the popular video game. We actually featured the trailer back in January, so we knew this was going to arrive sometime this year, but the poster clearly states: "The Battle Begins Aug 5". So I am assuming this is going to hit theaters? Hopefully not straight-to-DVD, right? I actually think this is just an international poster, which means we still don't know when it's coming out in the US. But check out the poster anyway, it's pretty cool.

Watch: First Short TV Spot for Robert Rodriguez's Predators!
Fox has aired the first official TV spot for Robert Rodriguez and Nimród Antal's Predators as discovered by ShockTillYouDrop. We've already featured a lot of footage from this, including the trailer and a bunch of featurettes, but it's always great to see the first TV spot, at least (from my perspective) to get a good sense of how they're marketing this to the masses. There's not much new footage in this, but there is a cool shot of the four-legged creatures. I also like that the story involves these people being brought there "for a reason." I'm really looking forward to seeing Predators, should be another great summer action movie! Watch below.

Review: Sony's The Karate Kid Shows Remakes How It's Done
There's no crane kick. No one is told to sweep the leg. Joe Esposito doesn't tell anyone they're "the Best." In fact, there's very little tugging at the heartstrings of nostalgia in The Karate Kid remake at all. What there are, though, are solidly crafted characters and riveting moments of genuine drama all put together to aid a story we have already seen. It doesn't matter that we've seen it before, even less that we saw it three times in sequels. But this Karate Kid, unlike those sequels and unlike most Hollywood remakes, isn't interested in cookie cutter storytelling as a means to brand loyalty. This Karate Kid actually has something honest to say,

Will Smith Promises He'll Make Men in Black 3D 'Look Good'
Although we know that Sony is officially moving forward on Men in Black 3 - aka MIIIB - for release in summer 2012, they're gearing up to start production on the sequel already. First, Sony Insider (via MTV) reports that David Koepp (Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, War of the Worlds, Ghost Town, Angels & Demons) has been hired to re-write the latest draft of the screenplay, originally penned by Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen. Additionally, a short video featuring Will Smith standing on the Sony lot talking about MIIIB, including that it will indeed be made in 3D, has bootlegged its way online and can be watched below.

Check This Out: Official Poster for Sofia Coppola's Somewhere
This is one upcoming independent film that I can't wait to finally see! Our friends at SlashFilm discovered the official poster for Sofia Coppola's new film Somewhere via a Facebook fan page. We've been writing about this project since it was first announced last year and have been patiently waiting for it. Somewhere takes place at the famous Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood (seen above) and stars Stephen Dorff as a "bad-boy actor" stumbling through life who lives in excess at the luxury hotel, but an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter, played by Elle Fanning, forces him to reexamine his life. So check out the poster!

Sound Off: Joe Carnahan's A-Team - So What Did You Think?
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? It all began back in 1983, now it's back again in 2010. In theaters this weekend is 20th Century Fox's action-packed fresh new take on The A-Team, an elite team of US Army Special Forces soldiers who basically just kick tons of ass. In the driver's seat is Joe Carnahan (of Smokin' Aces). The team is made up of: Liam Neeson as Hannibal, Bradley Cooper as Face, Sharlto Copley as Murdock, and Rampage Jackson as B.A. Baracus. So how was the movie? Was there enough of a story to compliment the action? If you've seen it, leave a comment and let us know what you thought of The A-Team!

Joel Silver is Developing a Blockbuster Version of Don Quixote
Uh oh, Terry Gilliam is going to be pissed. Pajiba reports that Joel Silver and Warner Bros are fast-tracking a new Don Quixote project as an upcoming tentpole movie. Word is that it's being described as a Pirates of Caribbean-style swashbuckling version of the story in which "we discover that Don Quixote isn't crazy and that there is, in fact, a fantasy world." Wait, what? Apparently the pitch is just now going out to writers, so it'll be a while before they craft it into a screenplay and actually get the ball rolling, but it sounds like Silver wants this soon. The Don Quixote story was originally written by Miguel de Cervantes in the 17th century.
