Announcement for Johnny Depp's Animated Rango is Very Odd
Way back in late 2008, it was announced that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski would be working on an animated movie called Rango that will feature the voice of Johnny Depp as "a household pet [who] goes on an adventure to discover its true self." Paramount has debuted an "announcement" video for this movie on Apple and it's quite odd, to say the least. What the heck is it and why are we even watching this? I don't really know. As far as I can tell (from promo photos like this one), Rango is some sort of bird or a bird being ridden by something. You can see it running along the loading bar on the official website, too.

Paramount Pictures Working on a Japanese Remake of 'Ghost'
While plenty of studios and their movies are still thriving here in the US, largely thanks to the higher ticket prices for 3D spectacles (by which I mean both glasses and hype), across the seas, American films just don't seem to be hitting the same chord they used to, especially in Japan. But Reuters reports Paramount seems to have a remedy for this problem - more remakes. However, these remakes will take on the local language, the first initiative being a Japanese remake of the Demi Moore & Patrick Swayze romance Ghost, which was quite the huge hit back in 1990 and has quite the universal appeal of love lasting forever in life and death.

One More New Trailer for Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice
There's probably going to be some confusion about if this actually the third trailer, but counting the teaser and theatrical trailer, this is indeed the third trailer from Disney for The Sorcerer's Apprentice starring Nic Cage, Jay Baruchel, Monica Bellucci, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer and Toby Kebbell. It comes from the official website (but we found it on YouTube) and is pretty much the same as we've seen before but with a bit of new footage, some glimpses of "The Sorceress", as played by Monica Bellucci, and more slapstick comedy (for better or worse). I'm personally still pretty excited to see this, it just looks so damn fun. Watch & enjoy!

Fresh New Titles for Fox's Die Hard 5 & Fantastic Four Reboot
It's not often we write entire news stories just for the titles of upcoming movies, but we've got two new titles today that might interest you. Harry Knowles from Ain't It Cool News is reporting that he's heard two new names for two of Fox's highly anticipated upcoming projects. The first new title is Die Hard 24/7, the fifth installment in Bruce Willis' action franchise. The second new title is Fantastic Four Reborn, which will supposedly be the new title for Akiva Goldsman's reboot of Fantastic Four. I didn't think either project was that far along, but if they're already picking titles, that might mean we'll see these two movies pretty soon.

Rashida Jones, Zooey Deschanel & More Join 'My Idiot Brother'
After hearing last week that the always hilarious Paul Rudd had signed on to star in the indie comedy My Idiot Brother, the story of an idealist dealing with his overbearing mother who crashes into the homes of his three ambitious sisters, we now have word on casting for the trio of siblings who'll star with Rudd. THR reports Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer will play the three sisters who find the idiot brother inadvertently bringing truth, happiness and a sunny disposition into their lives along with some craziness. Rashida Jones has also been cast as Deschanel's girlfriend. Nope, you're not dreaming.

David Tennant and Mintz-Plasse Cast in Fright Night Remake
Okay, consider my interest in Craig Gillespie's remake of the campy horror film Fright Night skyrocketing through the roof with this recent bit of casting news from Heat Vision, which says David Tennant ("Doctor Who") and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass) have joined the project alongside Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell and Toni Collette. We recently found out the setting of the remake moves the story from a suburban town to Las Vegas where a teen (Yelchin) is convinced that his new neighbor (Farrell) is a vampire when his mother falls under the spell of the charming bloodsucker. How do Tennant & Mintz-Plasse come into play?

Watch: Official US Trailer for Acclaimed Greek Film 'Dogtooth'
Here we go. Kino International has finally debuted the official US trailer for the critically acclaimed Greek film Dogtooth. If you haven't heard about this film yet, then you better read up on it, or you won't know what you're even watching. Dogtooth is, to be frank, a twisted, odd, unsettling "satire" about a Greek family who keeps their teenage children locked up in a country estate. I saw this at Cannes last year, didn't enjoy it one bit, but it went on to win a big award there and has been heralded by fellow critics like James Rocchi. I don't know what else to say, but if you still want to see this, I say go for it. You definitely will not forget it!

Casting Tidbits: Stephen Moyer, Bill Nighy and Eva Longoria
Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into Casting Tidbits and crawled out. First up, Variety reports that Max Minghella (soon to be seen in The Social Network), offspring of the late filmmaker Anthony Minghella, will star alongside Emile Hirsch and Olivia Thirlby in the supernatural science fiction flick The Darkest Hour, a story centering on a group of kids struggling to survive in Russia after an alien invasion. Director Chris Gorak (Right at Your Door) is helming the project. More news ahead!

Cameron Protege Directing New Line's Fifth Final Destination
It was officially confirmed back in April that Warner Bros & New Line Cinema were now developing a fifth new Final Destination movie, despite calling the fourth one The Final Destination, because apparently it wasn't the last movie in that franchise after all. Anyway, because directors don't stick around long with this franchise, Variety reports that New Line has hired Steven Quale to direct Final Destination 5. Quale was recruited by James Cameron out of USC film school in the 80's to originally work on The Abyss. He's since worked with Cameron on special effects for Terminator 2 and directed the documentary Aliens of the Deep.

Check This Out: Official Poster for Neil Marshall's Centurion!
Oh hell yea - this looks badass, too! Magnolia Pictures has debuted the official US teaser poster via IGN for Neil Marshall's Centurion, his action/adventure Roman epic starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko. We've already seen the trailer for this but we've been waiting for the debut of the poster - and here it is. This almost looks more like a video game poster, but that said, it still looks pretty awesome. I should be hitting a screening of Centurion this week and will let you guys know what I think once I see it. Has anyone else seen it already? It's getting a mixed 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. Anyway, check it out below!

Michael Fassbender Wanted for Roles in X-Men & Spider-Man
More interesting casting "news" to sort of report on, since it's not even close to being official. Showbiz411, which is a reliable blog, says that actor Michael Fassbender (seen in 300, Hunger, Inglourious Basterds, Fish Tank, Centurion, Jonah Hex) is being "pursued" for a couple of big roles in two upcoming comic book movies. First, he's the person that Matthew Vaughn wants to play Magneto (aka Erik Lehnsherr) in Fox's X-Men: First Class reboot. Secondly, apparently he's in the running for a villain (they say "the villain") in Spider-Man 4, but I can't imagine there's only one villain in that reboot. But neither role is confirmed yet.
