John Lithgow & Freida Pinto Fully Join Fox's Rise of the Apes

John Lithgow & Freida Pinto

He's back! Heat Vision reports that legendary actor John Lithgow, who won a Golden Globe last year for his role on "Dexter", is returning to the big screen again in Fox's Rise of the Apes, the Planet of the Apes prequel being directed by Rupert Wyatt. A few days ago it was rumored that Don Cheadle and Freida Pinto had both been offered roles as well, and now it's confirmed that Freida Pinto has indeed joined the cast. Pinto will play the female lead, a primatologist named Caroline, while Lithgow will play the Alzheimer's-stricken father to James Franco's scientist character, who's trying to work on a cure for his father's disease.

Daniel Radcliffe Leads 'All Quiet on the Western Front' Remake

Daniel Radcliffe - All Quiet on the Western Front

A big follow up to Harry Potter or another indie? Variety reports that Daniel Radcliffe will play the lead in a remake of the 1930 Best Picture winner All Quiet on the Western Front, originally based on Erich Maria Remarque's novel. The WWI drama tells the story of Paul Baumer (Radcliffe's role), a young German soldier fighting in the trenches of France. Radcliffe seems to like acting on the stage, as he'll be appearing on Broadway in How to Succeed Without Really Trying next year and will shoot this Western Front remake in spring of 2012 (a long time from now). Sliding Down Rainbows Entertainment (wha?) is producing the film.

Mark Waters & Maybe Jim Carrey for Mr. Popper's Penguins?

Mr. Popper's Penguins

Uh oh, what is Fox doing? We first heard that an adaptation of Mr. Popper's Penguins was in the works at 20th Century Fox back in April with Ben Stiller and director Noah Baumbach attached, but they both fell out of the project a month later. Now LA Times' 24 Frames reports that Fox is looking to hire director Mark Waters, of Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, The Spiderwick Chronicles and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, to take over with Jim Carrey potentially taking the lead role. Apparently none of this is confirmed, by anyone, but this is what they've "heard" so we'll report it as just a rumor for now. Word is that Carrey is not at all a lock.

Check This Out: Official Poster for Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3D

Piranha 3D

Dimension Films / The Weinstein Company has unveiled the first official poster on Twitter (via STYD) for Piranha 3D, that wild and crazy 3D horror movie about killer piranhas that hits theaters in August. We've already seen a couple of trailers (watch the most recent here) for Piranha 3D, so we know what to expect. I can already tell you I'm not really a fan of this poster, but that's because it's obnoxiously promoting 3D and that may be because that's all this has going for it. It looks fun and wacky and its got Christopher Lloyd and Richard Dreyfuss (and Elisabeth Shue!) but it's still all about watching the horror in 3D. Take a look below.

DreamWorks Developing an Animated Good Luck Trolls Movie

Good Luck Trolls

DreamWorks Animation has a lot of upcoming projects in the works right now, a lot of interesting stuff, from The Croods to Tim Burton's Monsterpocalypse. The animation house must be hurting after seeing Toy Story 3 break all the records this weekend (while kicking Shrek Forever After to the ground this summer) because they've just announced that they will be developing a movie about another line of toys which just so happen to appear in Toy Story 3 as well. THR says that DreamWorks is now developing a movie about the crazy "Good Luck Trolls" little plastic toys (seen above). Well, I can already tell you this is going to suck.

Ruben Fleischer Developing Mike White's 'Babe in the Woods'

Ruben Fleischer

Sony really loves Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. He's already in pre-production on 30 Minutes or Less, another comedy for Sony Pictures / Columbia Pictures, and now he's attached to develop another one of their upcoming projects. Sony has officially announced (via press release) that Fleischer will direct Babe in the Woods, the project (which Sony picked up last year) written by actor/writer Mike White of School of Rock, Nacho Libre and Year of the Dog. Babe in the Woods is an "action-comedy centering on a female freshman from the Midwest who arrives at Yale and becomes a target of the New Jersey mob." Sounds fun!

Check This Out: Official Poster for Rob Reiner's Flipped is Out

Flipped

Warner Bros sent over the final official poster for Rob Reiner's new coming-of-age drama Flipped starring newcomers Callan McAuliffe and Madeline Carroll (from Nickelodeon) as middle school lovers in the 60's. We featured the trailer earlier this month for Flipped and I'm featuring this poster because I'm pretty damn excited to see this movie, it's probably one of my most anticipated of the summer. This poster is fairly simple but absolutely gorgeous and I'm glad there are no floating heads on it at all. I don't care how effective it is (or maybe isn't) at marketing, I just love the look of it. Anyway, you can check out the Flipped poster below.

Disney Working on 3D Lion King + Roger Rabbit Sequel Soon

The Lion King

Disney is definitely on their way to becoming the top studio again. There are hundreds of projects they're working on, but two of them get some time in the spotlight today. Empire caught up with Disney producer Don Hahn, who directed the great Waking Sleeping Beauty documentary and is working on Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, and talked about a few different projects at Disney, since he still is working on other things besides telling the inside story of Disney. First up, it sounds like that Who Framed Roger Rabbit sequel is moving forward soon and secondly, they're starting work on a 3D conversion of The Lion King as well.

Luc Besson Still Directing More, Shopping Around a Romance

Luc Besson

French filmmaker Luc Besson hasn't retired from directing just yet. Although years ago he said that he was finished after making the 10 films he wanted to make, he continued on with three Arthur and the Minimoys animated movies and finally the live-action Adèle Blanc-Sec comic book movie, which we've seen trailers for already. Now Heat Vision is reporting that Besson is shopping around an untitled script about a love story that he co-wrote with David Marconi (Enemy of the State, Live Free or Die Hard). He's producing quite a few projects, including Colombiana with Zoe Saldana, but this one actually has Besson attached as director.

Watch This: First Trailer for Seth Rogen's The Green Hornet!

The Green Hornet Trailer

Sony has debuted the official trailer for Seth Rogen's The Green Hornet on Yahoo tonight. Rogen stars as Britt Reid, aka Green Hornet, and Jay Chou stars as his sidekick Kato. They're joined by Cameron Diaz, Tom Wilkinson, Edward James Olmos and Christoph Waltz as the bad guy. I've been waiting to see the trailer for this for a while, because with Michel Gondry directing, I'm more interested in seeing how he is tackling the character more than anything. I've got to say, the visuals and the action in this looks awesome, but boy does the comedic tone seem totally out of place. I didn't really laugh at all. Not sure what to make of this?

Marvel Hires Conan Writers for Upcoming Dr. Strange Movie

Dr. Strange

Earlier today we heard a rumor about Marvel's third tier characters making their big screen debut through 10-minute short films to play before feature length Marvel properties. Then we got our first look at the new incarnation of Conan starring Jason Momoa. Now, just like how The Planeteers combine to become Captain Planet, those two stories have combined to form an all-new story as Deadline reports that writers Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (who wrote Conan) have been hired to write Dr. Strange, the first third tier character to get a feature film treatment, and likely the first Marvel production as part of Disney.

New Exorcist Viral Website for The Last Exorcism Discovered

The Church of St. Marks - Reverend Cotton Marcus

I received a strange email earlier today with a link to a website located at churchofstmarks.com. I didn't think much of it at first, but then I saw Bloody-Disgusting mention the site as well, and it turns out it's part of a new viral. Reverend Cotton Marcus is one of the main characters from the Eli Roth produced horror faux-documentary The Last Exorcism (watch the trailer). The site is a webpage for Marcus and his church "with a special mission – casting Satan and his minions out of those he afflicts." The project used to be titled Cotton before it was renamed to The Last Exorcism, so I think he plays a bigger role than we first thought.
