First Look: Five Badass Girls from Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch

As we mentioned yesterday in the Green Lantern costume reveal, there are going to be a lot of big first look reveals this weekend and all next week for Comic-Con. Another new first look has arrived, again found in the pages of the latest Entertainment Weekly (found via tumblr), this time for Zack Snyder's new action-heavy movie Sucker Punch. Meet some badass chics (from L to R): Abbie Cornish as Sweetpea; Jena Malone as Rocket; Emily Browning as Baby Doll, our hero; Scott Glenn (in background); Vanessa Hudgens as Blondie; plus Jamie Chung as Amber. And ohh yes, all of these girls kick some serious ass in the movie.

Early Promo Teaser for Weta Workshop's Wind in the Willows

Wind in the Willows

Whoa, wait just a minute. It was barely even a month ago that we first reported that a new Wind in the Willows movie, using a combination of live-action and animatronics, was in the works at Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop down in New Zealand. Considering movies made like that usually take a very long time to come together, I didn't expect to see anything from it for a while, but I'm surprised to say otherwise today. SlashFilm discovered that an early promo teaser trailer for Weta's The Wind in the Willows is available on the film's official website. It's only an early animated promo, while actual filming will start later this year.

Christopher McQuarrie Reworking, Maybe Directing, One Shot

One Shot

Much of Christopher McQuarrie's success in screenwriting is paired with the success of Bryan Singer. Early on the two collaborated on the little known thriller Public Access only to break out with crime drama favorite The Usual Suspects. Over a decade later the two found reasonable success with Valkyrie. Between their collaboration, McQuarrie directed his first film to mixed reviews with The Way of the Gun in the year 2000. Now it looks like McQuarrie may be hopping in the director's chair again as Heat Vision reports he's been hired to rework the script for the thriller One Shot for Paramount and may potentially direct the film.

Aaron Sorkin's Directing Debut is a Biopic About John Edwards

John Edwards

After writing many masterful screenplays with fully memorable and quotable lines of dialogue, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin is now poised to make his directorial debut. Deadline reports Sorkin has optioned rights to The Politician: An Insider's Account of John Edwards's Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down, a non-fiction book written by the former presidential candidate's one-time aide. Sorkin will be directing from a script which he will be writing himself. Though no studio is attached yet, with all the buzz his scripts for The Social Network and Moneyball gathered, you know someone will bite on this soon.

Must Watch: Great Official Trailer for Ben Affleck's The Town

The Town Trailer

You will see this in front of Inception this weekend, but if you want to watch it now (or again), Warner Bros debuted the official trailer for The Town, the new film directed by and starring Ben Affleck. I'm a huge fan of Gone Baby Gone, Affleck's directorial debut, and have been anxiously awaiting this, as I had a feeling it would be incredible. The Town also stars Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall, and a bunch of other talented actors. This is the first time I've seen this trailer, and I have to say I'm blown away yet again. While I think Affleck isn't bad as an actor, he's definitely a much more talented director. Watch this trailer!

Watch: New Trailer for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Biutiful

Biutiful Trailer

Although this quite beautiful, yet honestly very depressing film, sadly still does not have a US distributor, it is going to be hitting theaters in Europe soon, so we'll be seeing a bit more of it soon. And considering it was my favorite film of Cannes, I'll definitely be writing about it quite a bit. Empire recently debuted the official UK trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu's Biutiful, starring Javier Bardem as a father / underground businessman in Barcelona. It's hard to get into the plot without going fully in-depth into it, but it really is a fantastic film, definitely worth seeing when/if it ever does come to US theaters. Watch the new trailer below.

Seth Grahame-Smith Hired to Pen Tim Burton's Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows

Since the project was announced over two years ago, we've seen little to no progression on Dark Shadows, the updated remake of the 60's daytime supernatural soap opera that originally starred Jonathan Frid as a 175-year-old vampire named Barnabas Collins. Johnny Depp has been attached to produce and star in the adaptation since the project's inception with Tim Burton directing. Awhile back, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory collaborator John August was involved (presumably in a writing capacity), but now Variety reports that author Seth Grahame-Smith (of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!) has signed on to write the script.

Brett Ratner Diving into Mythological Heroes with Hercules?

Hercules

Honestly, I hadn't noticed that one of the most highly criticized, yet surprisingly successful directors, Brett Ratner, hadn't directed a feature film in over 3 years. Last time Ratner threw something up on screen (not counting his short in New York, I Love You) it was Rush Hour 3. That flick is essentially vomit on celluloid, so my verbiage is accurate on at least two different levels. 24 Frames is reporting that the director might get back in the director's chair to bring the classic action hero Hercules back to theaters. Producer Avi Lerner has been developing the project for over three years and apparently its gained some recent new momentum.

Watch: Official Trailer for James Franco's Ginsberg Film Howl

Howl Trailer

Oscilloscope Pictures has debuted the official trailer for Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman's Howl, originally on The AV Club (embed below courtesy of The Playlist). Howl is that experimental trippy indie flick about poet Allen Ginsberg, as played by James Franco. Before its premiere at Sundance, we were hyping this up with a lot of photos of Franco in character as Ginsberg. But once it premiered, interest nearly died, mostly because all of the critics saw it and most of them disliked it. It's just way too wacky, but maybe that's you're thing. This trailer delves into that a little bit, but definitely gives you a sense of what to expect, so have fun!

There's a Few More Photos from Green Lantern to Check Out

Green Lantern Photos

In the reveal of the Green Lantern cover shot this morning, Entertainment Weekly promised there would be more photos in the latest issue of the magazine, and indeed there are. iFanboy (from SlashFilm) scanned the photos that are inside and they contain three new shots showing a lot more of the cast, including Blake Lively as Hal Jordan's very sexy girlfriend Carol Ferris, Tim Robbins as Senator Hammond, and a look at Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond. We finally got to see what the Green Lantern armor looks like this morning, to quite polarizing opinions, and now we've got these photos to lead us into Comic-Con next week.

Jennifer Lawrence Cast as Mystique in Fox's X-Men: First Class

Jennifer Lawrence

The cast continues to grow. Heat Vision announces that 19-year-old actress Jennifer Lawrence, last seen in Winter's Bone as well as The Burning Plain, has been cast as the mutant Mystique in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class prequel/reboot. Fox has been putting together the cast as quick as they can in hopes of getting production underway as soon as possible. In addition to Lawrence, Variety also confirmed Kevin Bacon's involvement as a villain, but still no word on who he's playing. I've heard that Singer and co would like to surprise everyone about the villain in the movie, but who knows if they can even pull that off anyway.

Nerdy Batch of Photos of Nick Frost & Simon Pegg from 'Paul'

Nick Frost & Simon Pegg in Paul

Nerds on parade! We haven't seen anything for the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team-up Paul, directed by Greg Mottola, since a random promo photo was found on the Universal back lot last year. We can't forget that it is coming soon, next March, and to remind us Collider has debuted a batch of awesome new photos. It's no coincidence that they're using the Comic-Con setting to hype this up, with the convention kicking off next week (Paul even has a panel!). Paul is that nerdy sci-fi comedy about two British comic nerds who road trip across the US to Comic-Con but somehow befriend an alien on their way back. Sounds awesome!
