Watch: Carl Bessai's Time Loop Sci-Fi Film 'Repeaters' Trailer

Repeaters Trailer

Well this is definitely on my "radar" now. HitFix just debuted an early trailer for a "gritty, sci-fi film" called Repeaters, from director Carl Bessai, that will be premiering at the Toronto Film Festival next month. The film plays with the Groundhog Day stuck-in-a-time-loop concept, but twists it into a "aggressive, fast-paced thriller" that addresses the morals of starting over with a clean slate every day in some of the most extreme ways (you'll see). It looks okay, not great, but wait - why did a random motorbike just fly across the screen? Why aren't there more explosions! Kidding, of course, but that was just a bit cheesy. Check this out below!

Clooney Directing Hoffman, Giamatti, Pine in 'Farragut North'?

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Chris Pine

Talk about a dream cast. There's a project we first mentioned in a list of other projects back when George Clooney left Warner Bros and signed a deal to develop at Sony instead. It's called Farragut North and is a feature adaptation of Beau Willimon's critically acclaimed play, set during the Iowa primary presidential race. We haven't heard anything about it since, but Vulture now says that Clooney may be getting behind the camera to direct, once again, and he's planning to start shooting next February. Who is he lining up to star? Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, and potentially Chris Pine, if everything comes together.

Battle Over 3D - James Cameron vs Piranha 3D's Mark Canton

James Cameron

Let the battle begin! An amusing little industry tussle is causing quite a stir in the web world recently and it's an interesting debate to bring up. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, James Cameron "dissed" the recently released Piranha 3D, saying "that is exactly an example of what we should not be doing in 3-D." He's definitely right about that and this isn't the first time he's said something like that. But, of course, his statements ruffled the feathers of the Piranha 3D filmmakers, so producer Mark Canton fired back with his own lengthy, for lack of a better word, attack on Cameron and his "mean-spirited and flawed analysis."

Norton's 'Leaves of Grass' to Finally Hit Theaters Next Month

Leaves of Grass

After numerous delays, release date shifts, distributor changes, and straight-to-DVD scares, anyone who's interested in actually seeing Tim Blake Nelson's Leaves of Grass, starring two Edward Nortons in twin roles, will finally have the chance to do so next month. Its been confirmed (by The Playlist and indieWIRE) that First Look Studios will finally be bringing the film to limited theaters on September 17th, but in only New York City and Tulsa, Oklahoma (where most of the film takes place). Leaves of Grass will then arrive on DVD/Blu-Ray in mid-October (pre-order on Amazon) for everyone who does not live in those two cities.

Willem Dafoe, Talulah Riley & Others Receive a 'Transmission'

Talulah Riley / Willem Dafoe

Though they haven't been released, there's already a bit of negative buzz building regarding the influx of alien invasion movies, especially with Skyline and Battle: Los Angeles both bringing destruction to the City of Angels within the next few months. Well, Moviehole has word on yet another sci-fi invasion story on the horizon. Apparently Bob Hoskins (Hollywoodland), Jason Flemyng (Clash of the Titans) and Talulah Riley (Pirate Radio) are signed on to star in Transmission, a film being shot in 3D which focuses on an alien invasion taking place during a solar eclipse. Willem Dafoe is also in talks to join the project as well.

Wu Ershan's The Butcher, The Chef & The Swordsman Trailer

The Butcher, The Chef and The Swordsman Trailer

Screening up at the Toronto Film Festival next month is a new kung fu comedy in the same vein as Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle called The Butcher, The Chef and The Swordsman from Chinese filmmaker Wu Ershan. I'm not exactly sure why, but Doug Liman is presenting the film at the festival and Twitch now has an official trailer from TIFF which you can check out below. This actually looks a lot more like a bloody, awesome, stylized martial arts movie than it does a kung fu comedy, but I'm in either way. It looks like we'll get three vignettes for each of the different stories, too. This looks good, I really want to see it! Watch below.

Fantastic Fest is Honoring Martial Arts Legend Yuen Woo-Ping

Yuen Woo-Ping's True Legend

Another great announcement regarding Fantastic Fest next month. Fantastic Fest will honor director and master fight choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the world premiere of his new martial arts fantasy True Legend (seen above), starring Vincent Zhao (Dragon Gets Angry), Zhou Xun (The Emperor and the Assassin) with Michelle Yeoh (Babylon A.D.) and the late David Carradine (Kill Bill). We actually featured a trailer for True Legend late last year, which you can still watch right here. That movie will play as part of a double feature with Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, Woo-Ping's directorial debut.

'Black Swan' and 'The Wrestler' Both Spawned From One Idea

Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan

But how? I know what you're thinking - this is just a bit too wild to imagine, but you've got to hear the full story. MTV caught up with director Darren Aronofsky before leaving on his worldwide film festival trip (starting in Venice this week) for his latest feature, Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. They talked about how he's "always considered [The Wrestler and Black Swan] companion pieces," and he told a story about, "at one point, way before I made The Wrestler, I was actually developing a project that was about a love affair between a ballet dancer and a wrestler, and then it kind of split off into two movies."

Jonathan Liebesman Officially Directing Clash of the Titans 2

Clash of the Titans / Jonathan Liebesman

Don't worry, he'll bring us a kick ass sequel. It was first mentioned back in June that director Jonathan Liebesman, who's currently working on the alien invasion action flick Battle: Los Angeles, was one of the top contenders to take over for Louis Leterrier on Warner Bros' Clash of the Titans sequel. Though early reports in the last few days first stated that he wasn't fully ready to sign on, Heat Vision now reports that Liebesman has officially signed a deal and will be directing Clash of the Titans 2 next following Battle: LA. Sam Worthington and the rest of the cast will be reprising their roles, with the script coming together now.

Joel David Moore and Others Take a Dive into 'Shark Night 3D'

Joel David Moore

If there wasn't enough bloody underwater action in Piranha 3D to quench your thirst, then David R. Ellis, director of Snakes on a Plane, will be delivering more in the form of Shark Night 3D. As we've previously reported, the cheesy story follows seven people who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana's Gulf area where their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks. Now Heat Vision has word on the casting of some victims with Joel David Moore (Avatar), Chris Carmack (Into the Blue 2: The Reef), Sinqua Walls ("Friday Night Lights") and Alyssa Diaz ("As the World Turns") joining the project.

Review: The Last Exorcism is a True Exercise in Great Horror

The Last Exorcism

Amidst the bland cavalcade of stagnant horror movies, there is one sub-genre (or film style, depending on how you view it) that doesn't seem to ever be tiring. No matter how stale the narratives get, the style of the mockumentary or "found footage" horror film hasn't hit the cinematic brick wall yet. Sure, there are those who complain about it, that it's overused or that it's never as effective as straight, smooth filmmaking. Yet, since The Blair Witch Project hit theaters in 1999, there have been films of this ilk that have consistently found their audience and brought out the best in fright the style has to offer.

Darren Aronofsky May Potentially Direct 'Wolverine 2' Now?

Wolverine / Darren Arronofsky

While we do our best to hold off on speculative rumors and potential casting deals for various high profile projects, when the news comes from reliable and legitimate outlets, it's hard ignore it. Even more distressing is when the news in question is so positively mouth-watering that the thought of it potentially never coming to fruition is just so disappointing. So it's with a heavy heart that we call your attention to a Deadline report that Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), along with previously mentioned director David Slade, is one of the key contenders to helm Wolverine 2, the sequel to the not so warmly received X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
