Watch Ryan Reynolds' 'Buried' While Buried at Fantastic Fest
The Alamo Drafthouse's Fantastic Fest is gearing up for a hell of a badass festival this September and that includes making a big announcement today of 16 more movies that are part of the line-up (including Stone, Drones, The Housemaid, Ong Bak 3 and Redline). Another film that was recently added as a Gala Screening is Rodrigo Cortés' Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds, which I'm sure everyone knows by now is that buried alive flick that places entirely inside a coffin. To tease that even, they're also hosting a "Rolling Roadshow of One" where four lucky (or maybe unlucky?) fans will be chosen to watch Buried while buried underground.

Neil Marshall to Direct Weird-Sounding Thriller 'Undergound'
After heading back in time for his Roman epic Centurion, director Neil Marshall is moving on to a project that sounds completely off-the-wall and almost laughable. Deadline reports that the filmmaker is now set to direct Underground, a horror thriller from writer David Cohen set in the world of gourmet underground supper clubs. Yes, you read that right: underground supper clubs. But that's not all. Apparently the film is supposed to follow an ambitious young chef who ventures into the terrifying underbelly of extreme cuisine. Now I know things can get a bit crazy with Gordon Ramsay or "Iron Chef," but extreme cuisine? Seriously?

John Cusack Starring in James McTeigue's Thriller The Raven
Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe? Okay, I'll bite, I like the sound of that. Actor John Cusack confirmed on his own Twitter (via ComingSoon) this morning that he will "play Edgar Allen Poe in fall-a-film [sic] called The Raven." If we can put two-and-two together, this means Cusack is starring as Poe in V for Vendetta director James McTeigue's new film The Raven, a period piece about the last five days before Poe's odd death, in which the poet is in pursuit of a serial killer whose murders mirror those in his stories. It sounds like a dark, mysterious project and I'm excited to see Cusack take this on, especially because I'm a fan of McTeigue, too.

Watch: Adam Wingard's 'A Horrible Way to Die' Official Trailer
Embark on a trip into a quiet, paranoid world where ugly things happen behind closed doors and down desolate country roads. More horror for you to feast on today? Definitely! There's not many other trailers out there anyway, so if you're curious, check this out. Heat Vision debuted a trailer for Adam Wingard's film A Horrible Way to Die, which will be premiering at the Toronto Film Fest next month. The story follows an escaped murderer in pursuit of his ex-girlfriend, who fled to start her own new life in a small town. But Wingard also played with narrative chronology, sound design and visual aesthetics to make it more unique.

Sound Off: Daniel Stamm's The Last Exorcism - How Was It?
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Arriving in theaters today is a new movie produced by Eli Roth, directed by A Necessary Death's Daniel Stamm, starring Patrick Fabian as Reverend Cotton Marcus, called The Last Exorcism, a horror "documentary" about Marcus' final exorcism. So how was it? What do all the horror fans think of this new take on exorcism? It currently has a surprising 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. How was Fabian as Marcus and the rest of the cast? Was the documentary style just a gimmick or did it work well? If you've seen it, leave a comment and let us know what you thought of The Last Exorcism!

Watch: Amazing Live-Action Spot for Microsoft's Halo Reach!
Remember that awesome short live-action teaser that Microsoft made for Halo 3: ODST last year, following a group of soldiers and one young kid who becomes a member of the ODSTs? Well, to top that off, Microsoft has delivered another incredible new teaser trailer for the upcoming game Halo Reach (which goes on sale September 14th) that was made in live-action using actual actors. They've been featuring a couple of these as commercials already, but they weren't that amazing, however this last one kicks some serious ass and gives us yet another taste of what it will (hopefully one day) be like to see a Halo film in its entirety. Watch this!

First Look: The Crimson Bolt & Friend in James Gunn's Super
There's always one or two smaller, independent "superhero" films every year and this is 2010's crème de la crème costumed crime-fighters comedy. Back at Comic-Con, Ethan wrote up a big article about how great James Gunn's Super looked, and now we have a few photos to share with you from the flick. Super stars Rainn Wilson as a down-on-his-luck guy who attempts to win his drug addicted wife (played by Liv Tyler) back from a glamorous drug dealer by teaming up with a psychopathic teen (as played by Ellen Page) and becoming costumed crimefighters. Wilson's altar ego is The Crimson Bolt, as you'll see in a photo below.

'Kung Fu Panda' Writers to Tackle Sony's 'Karate Kid' Sequel
We're making a big deal out of some pretty basic news, but it's a slow day and there's not much else worth covering. Heat Vision reports that writers Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reif, who wrote Bulletproof Monk, got Emmy noms for the "Sleeper Cell" miniseries, and are credited for the "story" on Kung Fu Panda and Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, have been hired to write the sequel to Sony's incredibly successful remake / reboot of The Karate Kid starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Considering that film was actually very good, this is one sequel I'm looking forward to seeing, I just hope they're able to somehow improve upon the first one.

Valve is Considering Making a Half-Life Movie on Their Own?
Remarkably, in the four years I've been running this blog we've never once talked about a Half-Life movie, despite the game being one of my all-time favorites and one that I know many people hope to see made into a movie. In a recent interview at PC Gamer (via IGN) with Valve's CEO and co-founder, Gabe Newell, he opened up a bit about their dismal history with Hollywood and even hinted that they might be considering making a movie based on Half-Life on their own. At this point we've seen the Half-Life franchise go through so much, including a fantastic sequel, that I don't know if what he's talking about is still in the works or not.

AMC Presenting an Unrated Version of Hatchet II in 20 Markets
I just love reporting on theatrical news like this. Dark Sky Films (who also brought us Deadgirl and The House of the Devil) officially announced with a press release today (via Twitch) that they'll be releasing an "unrated" version of Adam Green's Hatchet II, the sequel to his 2007 indie horror cult slasher favorite Hatchet, about the deformed, swamp-dwelling iconic killer Victor Crowley. A dark, grotesque teaser trailer recently went up on Yahoo and the film hits theaters on October 1st. AMC is the chain that deserves praise for agreeing to screen this "unrated" (essentially NC-17) version of Hatchet II in their top 20 markets.

Albert Brooks to Play Badass Mobster in Winding Refn's 'Drive'
Hell yes! Deadline has announced that Oscar nominated comedian, actor, and author Albert Brooks, of Taxi Driver, Broadcast News, Lost in America, and of course Finding Nemo (as the voice of Marlin) fame, has joined the cast of Nicolas Winding Refn's new action movie Drive. Earlier this week it was announced that Carey Mulligan and Bryan Cranston would be joining the cast with Ryan Gosling playing the lead role - a nameless Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a freelance getaway driver during robberies. Brooks will play Bernie Rose, a transplanted New York mobster who comes to LA and is "not to be messed with."

Alex Kurtzman's Directorial Debut May Be 'Welcome to People'
Interesting story on Vulture tonight. Reportedly, Steven Spielberg's new DreamWorks is giving screenwriter Alex Kurtzman, one half of the Roberto Orci/Kurtzman writing duo, his chance to become a director on an intimate dramatic project called Welcome to People. Vulture got the big scoop early on Super 8, so I trust their DreamWorks sources. Kurtzman actually co-wrote the script with Orci and Jody Lambert (Of All the Things) around six years ago, but recently "pulled it out of his drawer when he was starting to be offered... big-budget movies." He didn't want to labeled an "only action" director, so he went for this project instead.
