Back to the Future Getting 25th Anniversary Screenings in US

DeLorean

Back in August I was simultaneously excited and infuriated because a slick new poster for had been released to promote a 25th anniversary theatrical re-release of the classic film Back to the Future. I was excited because it's not everyday a new official poster for such a great film pops up and infuriated because the wide theatrical re-release was only happening in the United Kingdom. However, fans in the United States finally have some good news as AMC Theatres announced today that they will be holding special screenings of Back to the Future on 158 screens in over 40 cities. It's not perfect, but I guess I can't complain too much.

Writer Greg Berlanti Talks Tone in Green Lantern & The Flash

Green Lantern / The Flash

Since we still haven't seen an official trailer for Green Lantern, many fans are still left wondering what we can expect from the adaptation of the DC Comics superhero. Even more undefined, and much further away, is the lingering adaptation of another DC property with The Flash. Though we recently got a status update on both potential franchises, writer Greg Berlanti was kind enough to recently deliver his description of the tone for both upcoming films. Honestly, the titles he mashes together to create some semblance of tonal comprehension are a bit confusing, but they're also somewhat interesting. Read what Berlanti says below.

Oscar Nominee & Titanic Star Gloria Stuart Passes Away at 100

Gloria Stuart

After surviving James Cameron's blockbuster Titanic, at 87 years-old actress Gloria Stuart received one of her greatest honors as she became the oldest Oscar nominee ever for her supporting role as the elder Rose Dawson, survivor of the ocean tragedy. Sadly, over a decade later, The Wasthington Post reports Ms. Stuart has passed away at 100 years old. In a century of life, there's little that Stuart hadn't seen or done. Though the pinnacle of her career may not have manifested itself until her later years, her career started way back in the 1930's. Like many talents on-screen, Stuart started in theater but later found success on the big screen.

New Video Interview: 'Black Swan' Director Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky

As my lengthy film festival tour starts to come to a close, I've been thinking back through all of the films I've seen, and one that has stuck with me the whole time is Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan starring the lovely Natalie Portman. It is undoubtedly one of my very favorite films of the year and another fantastic work of art from one of the best filmmakers around. Although I first saw the film in Telluride (read my review), I didn't have the chance to catch up with Darren Aronofsky for an interview until I got to Toronto. Below you will find my 15 minute interview with Aronofsky, which is a must watch for anyone who's a fan of the filmmaker.

Tron Legacy's Daft Punk Soundtrack Website Gets Viral Update

Tron Legacy Official Soundtrack

An odd email was sent out to readers last night alerting them that the website for Tron Legacy's Official Soundtrack by Daft Punk had been updated. The email contained a few bits of real info, but mostly chunks of garbled text which turned out to be real text encoded in Base 64 (decode it here). It said the soundtrack featuring Daft Punk's all new score will go on sale on November 22nd and that you can actually pre-order it on the website right now. To go along with the score, Disney is debuting an exclusive poster specifically for the soundtrack, which will be unveiled on that same website in 12 more days (there is a countdown timer).

More Quotes from Whedon on The Avengers: 'This is MY Film'

Joss Whedon - The Avengers

We're probably going to be running new quotes from director Joss Whedon on Marvel's The Avengers movie from now until, well, the day that ensemble comic book movie comes out in May 2012 (so get ready for two more years of endless quotes). After the big Comic-Con announcement, we posted some quotes from Whedon talking about why he cast Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. Then a month ago we ran some quotes where he talked about how he's been waiting to make this his entire life. Now out of nowhere, UK's SFX (via AICN) has published some of their own new quotes and they're quite beefy, but still lacking specific details.

Guillermo del Toro Sets Up 'Trollhunters' at DreamWorks Anim

DreamWorks Animation / Guillermo del Toro

Well I'll be damned. Heat Vision announces that Guillermo del Toro is setting up shop at DreamWorks Animation (aka DWA) for a few side gigs. It seems as if DWA's head Jeffrey Katzenberg has been trying to bring in as many big creatives as possible and del Toro is the latest to be sucked in. After visiting the campus in Glendale, CA over the summer, he now has an office and is working as a creative consultant and will write and direct his own feature for the animation house called Trollhunters. He's even been helping them with Megamind, working on the editing and structure of the movie, "hoping to give it a brisker rhythm." Wow.

Jeremy's Fantastic Fest Review: Mother's Day - It's Just Awful

Darren Bousman's Mother's Day

There could be a decent film scrapped together in all that Darren Lynn Bousman shot for the remake of Mother's Day. As one of the benefits of seeing a film with a Q&A after, you realize the potential a film has even before it is released to mass audiences. In the Q&A at Fantastic Fest, Bousman explained that there was also five-hour cut of the film, one that we obviously did not see and one that will obviously not be shown to the public. It should be noted at this time that this first paragraph is not part of my review, but more an explanation that what I saw may not be what you will be seeing when Mother's Day gets its release next

Fantastic Fest's Unforgettable Events: Yuen Woo Ping's Tribute

Yuen Woo Ping & RZA - Fantastic Fest 2010

How many film festivals can you go to where the RZA himself presents a Lifetime Achievement award in the form of a sword to filmmaker & martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo Ping before screening his new film True Legend. Oh and after watching that and a fascinating Q&A, they showed a print of the first film Woo Ping directed, Snake in Eagle's Shadow. And if you're still not tired then, you can go and sing karaoke at an all-night party held at the Alamo Drafthouse's sister lounge, The Highball. Yep, that is Fantastic Fest for you, and there's nothing like it in the world. And I keep coming back every year because it's that awesome.

Indie Trailer Sunday: Emily Blunt & Rupert Grint in Wild Target

Wild Target Trailer

Ohhh boy I love Emily Blunt. Too bad she's already married to John Krasinski. There's a trailer that debuted earlier this week that seems to have slipped under the radar, but I want to make an effort to feature it today before it's forgotten forever. Yahoo (via SlashFilm) debuted the official US trailer for Jonathan Lynn's Wild Target, starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt and Rupert Grint as well as Rupert Everett, Eileen Atkins and Martin Freeman. It's kind of a hitman-conmen comedy or something like that. It looks like a fun British flick and Bill Nighy looks hilarious (that mustache!). I'm not sure why this has been so low key, but it looks great.

Jeremy's Fantastic Fest Review: Let Me In - A Beautiful Tribute

Let Me In Review

Let Me In, the Matt Reeves-written/directed retelling of John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel originally known as Let the Right One In, is beautiful, gripping, and terrifying. It is a powerful story of one boy's isolation from the world and the creature that comes into his life to accept him. From the way Reeves adapts the story to the way it's executed, there is so much to appreciate in this film, yet there is a difficult feeling to shake.

Let Me In is not only another retelling of Lindqvist's novel, it is a remake of the 2008 Swedish film, which was adapted to the screen by Lindqvist himself and directed by Tomas Alfredson. While Let Me In cannot be

Nu Image's Kane & Lynch Delayed, Still Stuck in Development

Kane & Lynch

Problems with another video game movie? No way! (That was sarcasm.) We got the sense from the news in June that no director had been chosen yet that Nu Image / Millennium Films' adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch was having some troubles getting off the ground. Now 24 Frames has confirmed with their own sources that another director we didn't even know was attached - Patrick Alessandrin (of District 13: Ultimatum) - has dropped off. And while they say a few other names thrown around before are still in the mix, the planned October start date has been pushed back until at least the first quarter of 2011. Read on!
