Stephen Fry Cast as Mycroft in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes 2

Stephen Fry

I'm still amazed that in two years time we'll already have a sequel to the first Sherlock Holmes, which just hit theaters Christmas last year. We know the same cast will be back, we know that Guy Ritchie is directing again, we know Noomi Rapace has joined, and we know the villain will be Moriarty (seen in the first movie), but time to add another name to the cast. On BBC's 5 Live today, as transcribed by Bleeding Cool (via The Playlist), beloved British actor Stephen Fry made an appearance and revealed that he is playing Mycroft, Holmes' older more intelligent brother, in WB's Sherlock Holmes 2, which starts shooting later this year.

Great Featurette for Gareth Edwards' 'Monsters' to Check Out

Monsters Featurette

After months of waiting, Gareth Edwards' fantastic low budget sci-fi flick Monsters (watch the trailer) has finally started playing OnDemand (on your TV at home) thanks to Magnolia Pictures. They've been putting out tons of clips and promotion for the movie recently, but I found a featurette (via Vlicious) that I thought was good enough to feature this weekend. Everyone has probably heard that Monsters was supposedly shot on a $15,000 shoestring budget and this video gives you a brief look at what that was like and how Edwards and his cast/crew shot this. There's also another different featurette you can see here. Check this out below!

Watch: 'Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer' Doc Trailer

Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer

It's a hell of a year for documentaries. Another one to add to your list of docs to see by the end of the year is Alex Gibney's Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer, an investigative inside look at the downfall of former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, who resigned after a prostitution scandal in '08. Spitzer appears in Charles Ferguson's Inside Job and I've heard some refer to Client 9 as an unofficial sequel to Inside Job, in that it looks at this story of what happened to him when he started to fight against the greedy CEOs who control Wall St. Magnolia debuted the official trailer on Apple and it looks damn good. Check it out below!

Ruffalo Talks About 'Playing' Hulk Using Mo-Cap in Avengers

Hulk / Mark Ruffalo

We last heard from actor Mark Ruffalo this July about why he was interested in playing Hulk in Marvel's forthcoming The Avengers movie (replacing Edward Norton) being directed by Joss Whedon. Yesterday Vulture met up with Ruffalo at a shindig in New York City and asked him about the role again. This time he revealed: "No one's ever played the Hulk exactly, they've always done CGI," So for this one they're going to be using mo-cap with Ruffalo in addition to having him actually play Bruce Banner. That should be pretty cool to see, plus Avatar-style mo-cap is the big trend nowadays. I think the result will be pretty awesome.

Patton Oswalt & Patrick Wilson Join Jason Reitman's Next Film

Patton Oswalt & Patrick Wilson

Believe it or not, Up in the Air director Jason Reitman's next film starts shooting in the next few weeks. I didn't even realize he had chosen his next project, but apparently he has a couple lined up. Young Adult, based on another script by Diablo Cody about a ghostwriter (Charlize Theron) of young adult novels who returns to her hometown to reconnect with high-school friends, has gained a few great cast members. 24 Frames reports that Reitman has cast Patton Oswalt and Patrick Wilson (who is still negotiating his deal) in various roles. My guess is that Wilson plays the ex-boyfriend that "wants nothing to do with her."

Michael Nyqvist Gets Villain Role in Fourth Mission: Impossible

Michael Nyqvist

Damn, Hollywood really loves The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (as do I). Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist, who starred as the male lead in the film, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, has landed a villain role in Tom Cruise and Brad Bird's upcoming Mission: Impossible 4, or whatever it will be called since Paramount wants to change the title. The casting was originally leaked on What's Playing and later confirmed by THR's RiskyBiz. They add that will Nyqvist will play "one of the lead villains" in M:I4, which makes me wonder if there's more than one or if he just has multiple henchman. Either way, I'm getting more intrigued by the minute.

Fantastic Fest 2010 Officially Kicks Off Down in Austin, Texas

Fantastic Fest 2010

For many, Austin, TX is the center of outside of the box, that civilization of abnormal and cool that anyone who gets a taste wants so much more. Fantastic Fest, held at the world famous Alamo Drafthouse (the one on South Lamar), is the week-long celebration of that abnormality in film, and it honors those strange, genre titles that you may not be privy to otherwise. After months and months of anticipation, speculation, and otherwise debates on what is to be expected, the first day of Fantastic Fest 2010 is in the books, as the fest officially kicked off Thursday. Both myself and Alex will be covering the festival for the next week.

MMA Fighter Cung Le Set for New MMA Project 'Dragon Eyes'

Cung Le

Is mixed martial arts on the rise in cinema, too? I doubt it, but you never know. Deadline reports that MMA star Cung Le, who actually appeared in Christian Alvart's Pandorum as well as Dito Montiel's Fighting, is set to star in another MMA-themed project. Joel Silver's Dark Castle is developing the action crime drama Dragon Eyes that will star Le as a mysterious man who comes from an impoverished part of New Orleans to unite two warring gangs against the corrupt lawmen who've been using them. Doesn't sound too exciting. The movie is a modernization of Kurosawa's classic Yojimbo. Shooting begins next month in Baton Rouge.

Check This Out: The Guardian's Film Season Video Challenge

The Guardian's Film Season Video Challenge

I love these kinds of visual challenges. The Guardian recently debuted a fantastic viral video for what they're calling the "Film Season Video Challenge." The video contains various imagery designed to represent a certain movie and you're job is to figure out what movie that is. It's about naming 26 films in 85 seconds. In the short clip you'll notice sly nods to 26 movies - it'll make sense when you see it. And if you need more of a direction, just think of Pixar's UP and that floating house with balloons seen near the beginning will be your first answer. Now you need to watch this and figure out the rest of the movies on your own. Have fun!

Watch: New US Trailer for Olivier Assayas' 5-Hour Epic 'Carlos'

Carlos Trailer

This is the story of the terrorist known as Carlos the Jackal. If you haven't heard about Carlos before, it's a 5-hour epic biopic about Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, one of the most wanted terrorists on the planet. Between 1974 and 1994, he lived several lives under various pseudonyms, weaving his way through the complexities of international politics of that period. Carlos is directed by Olivier Assayas and stars Édgar Ramírez (Che) as Carlos and is being released by IFC Films here in the US. Apple has debuted the official trailer and damn does this look like a riveting and intense film. But how many are willing to sit through 5+ hours of it?

Creepy Viral Videos Being Sent Out for 'Paranormal Activity 2'

Paranormal Activity 2

Let's see what kind of viral tricks Paramount has up their sleeves. I received an e-mail from our friends at Bloody-Disgusting earlier today saying they came across an "awesome" viral for Paranormal Activity 2 that seems to have even spooked them. Apparently packages are being delivered containing nothing but USB drives that have a video on them (UGO got one, too). The video file, which only lasts 18 seconds long, is one of the shots of a living room from the Paranormal Activity 2 trailer but has some extra freaky footage in it right when the clock strikes 1:22AM on the tape. If you're into this kind of creepy horror stuff, then read on!
