Shortlist of Directors to Helm 'The Man of Steel' Quite Enticing

Superman

Having one of cinema's most respected directors taking the Superman reboot The Man of Steel under his wing is exciting in itself, but the shortlist of directors in contention to actually direct the film is exciting, too. Deadline has the scoop on the candidates that Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are considering to help Superman take flight. While longtime filmmaker Tony Scott is included on the list, the rest is comprised of directors who've risen to prominence fairly recently like: Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles), Duncan Jones (Moon) and also Zack Snyder (Watchmen). Kate Beckinsale is Returning for the Next 'Underworld' Sequel

Kate Beckinsale

Back February we heard Len Wiseman would be directing the next sequel in the Underworld franchise which would head into the third dimension as well as outer space for film's story. At the time the return of franchise star Kate Beckinsale seemed unlikely and the actress was interested in passing the franchise down to one of her real-life daughters. A press release today cleared things up by announcing Beckinsale would indeed reprise her role as the Lycan hunter Selene. However, there is no mention of 3D and Wiseman is only producing the project with a director currently being sought to helm the project in March of 2011.

Emma Stone. Mia Wasikowska Latest 'Spider-Man' Candidates

Mia Wasikowska / Emma Stone

If you haven't figured out the roles these two might be playing based on their looks, well, we're about to tell you anyway. We've heard endless amounts of casting rumors for Marc Webb's new Spider-Man in the last few months, but besides Andrew Garfield being cast as Peter Parker, nothing else has been announced yet. However, EW.com has published a casting scoop saying they've heard that two key actresses are testing for key female roles in the movie: Emma Stone (Zombieland, Easy A) as the red-headed Mary Jane Watson, and Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) as Gwen Stacy. But, of course, neither are fully signed yet.

Creepy, Dark Love Story in the Final Official 'Heartless' Trailer

Heartless Trailer

Where the hell did this come from? (That pun will make sense after you watch this.) Apple has debuted an official trailer for Philip Ridley's Heartless, starring Jim Sturgess and Clémence Poésy. I actually do know about this film, as we featured a trailer for it earlier this year, but haven't heard much about it since, mainly because IFC quietly picked it up and is opening it very limited this fall. It's a Faust-themed dark, romantic drama about a guy with a heart-shaped birthmark on his face who sees demons in London. You've just got to watch the trailer, it's wild and a little wacky, but I think I may actually want to see it now. Enjoy!

Check This Out: John Wells' 'The Company Men' Official Poster

The Company Men

I had nearly forgotten about this film until this wonderful poster arrived today. Our friends at Cinematical have unveiled the official "one-sheet" for John Wells' The Company Men, the bleak indie drama starring Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones as three execs who lose their jobs at a major manufacturing company and must deal with the harsh economic recession. We featured a trailer for the film back in July, so you already know what to expect, but I think this is a great poster to go along with it. I love the imagery and symbolism and I think it's just a refreshingly unique design for an indie drama these days. View it below!

Must Watch: Tom Hooper's The King's Speech Official Trailer

The King's Speech Trailer

Get ready for your first look at this year's Best Picture frontrunner. The Weinstein Company has debuted the official trailer for Tom Hooper's The King's Speech starring Colin Firth as King George VI as well as Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Guy Pearce and Timothy Spall as Churchill. I had the chance to see this a week ago and totally loved it, one of my favorite films of the year and I truly believe that Firth will get the Oscar and that it has a very strong chance of winning Best Picture. This is a fantastic trailer to introduce you to the film and also give you a look at some of Danny Cohen's gorgeous cinematography. Watch below!

Chloe Moretz Takes Odd Yet Stylish Role in 'Emily the Strange'

Moretz / Emily the Strange

While it may not be as bloodthirsty as her character in Let Me In or as vulgar and violent as Hit Girl, this new for Chloe Moretz is still on the peculiar side. Deadline reports the much buzzed about young actress will take on the lead role of Emily the Strange in Universal's adaptation of the cult fave Dark Horse comic series of the same name. The character would actually be the first property to go from its inception as a promotional sticker to a major motion picture. Emily the Strange was originally created to promote a clothing line at concerts, record stores and skate shops but has since become a big brand name character.

Alex Winter Confirms New Bill & Ted Sequel is in Development

Bill and Ted

Back in March some most excellent news came directly from Keanu Reeves who confirmed that certain people were in the midst of working on a another sequel  to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure to follow the second installment of the time traveling Wyld Stallyns exploits in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Now the other half of the radical duo has opened up about a potential sequel as MTV spoke with Alex Winter who said, "Now the cat's out of the bag, and the truth is that, yeah, we have finally hit upon an idea that we think is pretty great." This is certainly some exciting news for the decades old series, but don't expect it to happen immediately.

Ron Perlman May Have Role in 'At the Mountains of Madness'

Del Toro / Perlman

After collaborating to great results on both Hellboy movies, actor Ron Perlman and director Guillermo del Toro have a great working relationship and friendship. Therefore, we're not completely surprised by MTV's report from a recent interview with del Toro that there's a role in his forthcoming adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's classic novel At the Mountains of Madness that was written specifically for Perlman to take. The director said, "All I can tell you is if Ron Perlman is free, he will be in. I wrote a part for him. He read it and if everything falls in place, Ron Perlman has a role in it written specifically for him." Sounds good to me.

Kimberly Peirce is Directing an Adaptation of 'Wicked Lovely'

Wicked Lovely / Kimberly Peircehttp://www.firstshowing.net/

Yet another candidate to replace The Twilight Saga upon its impending conclusion has manifested itself as Deadline reports director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry, Stop-Loss) has signed for an adaptation of Melissa Marr's dark fantasy novel Wicked Lovely, the first in a whole series. The story follows Aislinn, a girl who has always seen faeries but followed her grandmother's rules to ignore them at all costs. But suddenly the faeries are stalking her and she's forced to confront them and their world that she's feared all her life. Scary and dark, this is not the kind of "fairy tale" that audiences have seen many times before.

Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet and More Joining 'God of Carnage'

Foster / Winslet

Back in July, we found out that Roman Polanski was free from Swiss justice and extradition to the United States which meant he would be working harder than ever to prepare his adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s dark comedy stage play God of Carnage to shoot next year. He'd already been working on the film whilst under house arrest, and it looks like all the hard work paid off as Deadline reports quite a cast coming together for the film. Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet will play the wives and Matt Dillon and Christoph Waltz their husbands in the story of two sets of parents brought together by an altercation between their children.
