Yustman, Heard and Urban in 'And Soon the Darkness' Trailer

And Soon the Darkness Trailer

Before this trailer hit today, I didn't even know this movie existed! Apple has debuted a trailer for another new horror remake called And Soon the Darkness starring two beautiful actresses: Amber Heard and Odette Yustman, as well as Karl Urban. But, of course, it's another one of those bland horror films that is being sold purely on the attractiveness of the two leading ladies. This reminds me a lot of Turistas meets A Perfect Getaway... or something like that. I wish Odette Yustman would actually star in more than only cheap horror, but I guess she needs to make a living. Anyway, if you're into this kind of stuff, check it out.

Exclusive: The Chemical Brothers Scoring Joe Wright's 'Hanna'

Joe Wright's Hanna

I'm currently attending the New York Comic-Con just finished watching the panel for Joe Wright's Hanna, the upcoming action movie starring Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana. They showed a few scenes of footage, which looked just okay, but during the intro to one of the clips, the moderator mentioned that there will be Chemical Brothers music behind it. So I decided to step up to the mic and confirm myself. Joe Wright said that The Chemical Brothers will be scoring the entire movie to provide a more "modern beat" instead of the classical scores of his previous films. As a longtime fan of the Chemical Brothers, this is fantastic news.

Review: 'My Soul to Take' Takes Wes Craven's Soul & Little Else

My Soul to Take

In the five years since his last directed feature film, and in the 16 years since the last film he both wrote and directed, Wes Craven, a modern Master of Horror, has certainly picked up the gift for gab. Sure, his more recent films, especially the Kevin Williamson-written films in the Scream franchise, have always been a bit dialogue-heavy. With My Soul to Take, though, Craven has taken exposition and oration and crammed as much of it into his film as possible. It really becomes the villain of the film, more dreaded and hated by the viewer than the idea of a soul-stealing serial killer. If that is what My Soul to Take is really about.

Mad Max: Fury Road's Shoot Delayed Until At Least Early 2012

Mad Max

Big surprise here (I'm kidding). Although production was supposed to start by the end of this year on George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy as the new Mad Max, production has been delayed, for a very long time. The Australian reports on the delay, adding that most of the crew who were about to work for a few months have been left "in the dust." Here's the worst part: "Production is now anticipated to begin in the Broken Hill region in February 2012." Wow, so this is not delayed for just a few months, but for more than a year - and that's only for the shoot, meaning we probably won't get to see the film until at least 2013.

Universal's Lengthy New Trailer for Ron Howard's The Dilemma

The Dilemma

We didn't write about this because I just didn't think it was worth extra attention, but Universal got a lot of flack from industry folk for the first trailer for Ron Howard's The Dilemma, which contained an offensive "gay" reference. They were forced to recut the trailer and remove that scene, as reported on Deadline, but it looks like they decided to release an entirely new trailer to take attention away from that incident. This new 3-minute trailer for the adulterous comedy starring Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Winona Ryder and Jennifer Connelly plays a bit better, but not much. I only laughed once at that joke with Betty at the end.

David O. Russell Writing/Directing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Ah, so this explains everything! Sony has officially announced with a press release that David O. Russell, who was previously attached to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, is set to write and direct an adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for Columbia Pictures. Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner are producing the live-action action-adventure film that follows the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. We've covered a few stories about this project before, namely that they were hiring writers to take a crack at adapting it, but it looks like Russell dropped everything to take this on full-time.

Fox Bringing Comic Strip 'Family Circus' to the Big Screen Next

Family Circus

So I guess the Marmaduke movie was successful enough? Wait, it only made $33 million, this doesn't make sense at all! Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox is teaming with Walden Media (also of The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader as well) to adapt Bil Keane's comic strip The Family Circus. Yes, this is that lovable single-pane comic about a family with four children, usually causing trouble. Apparently a lot of studios were interested in turning it into a big family franchise, but Fox and Walden came out on top and will be developing this as a live-action feature with John Baldecchi and Stacy Maes producing. Read on!

Another Tron Legacy Viral Game + Tron Night 2010 Announced

Tron Legacy

Another new viral puzzle just launched via Facebook and FlynnLives.com for the on-going Tron Legacy viral that we haven't seen much from since Comic-Con. We don't know much about the new website, but it's another one of those cryptic viral sites with numbers and colored bars and codes to crack. The Tron viral has involved a lot of coding and deciphering before and this is the same. If you visit the new site and click on any of the numbers, you can download a zip file containing a lot of word docs. It looks like a big ASCII art photo (thanks to Unfiction), but if you guys can help us decipher it, I have a feeling it's leading to something big!

Alex's Sundance 2010 Review: Sam Taylor Wood's Nowhere Boy

Sam Taylor Wood's Nowhere Boy

I've found another personal favorite film of this fest. I was first introduced to British director Sam Taylor Wood in 2008 when I saw her short film Love You More at the Telluride Film Festival. I instantly fell in love with it and have been anxiously awaiting Nowhere Boy, which is her first feature film about the early days of John Lennon and Paul McCartney from The Beatles. I'm a big fan of The Beatles and was interested in learning more about their formation and early days, and while Nowhere Boy isn't as much about the band as it is Lennon's younger years, it's still an incredibly well-directed film that most Beatles fans will enjoy.

Must Watch: First Trailer for Derek Cianfrance's Blue Valentine

Blue Valentine Trailer

The Weinstein Company debuted the first official trailer on Yahoo for Derek Cianfrance's Blue Valentine starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. The film is a heart-wrenching emotional drama about a failing relationship between these two individuals. It was both Brandon and I's big Sundance favorite (read Brandon's review / Alex's review) which we followed up with an interview with Derek Cianfrance. The MPAA just gave the film an NC-17 rating (via Deadline), which is absolute BS, but I'm sure TWC will try and appeal that before its release. This is a wonderful trailer, but watch out, the film isn't always that cheerful. Enjoy!

Geoff Johns Wants to Release Two DC Comics Movies Each Year

DC Comics

Though the people at Marvel Entertainment are already ahead of the curve, the folks at DC Entertainment are gaining steam. Obviously Christopher Nolan's iteration of Batman has been a great pedestal on which they can stand, but with the promise of Green Lantern next year and The Flash sometime shortly thereafter, DC Comics is hitting the box office in a big way. So it's no surprise that Geoff Johns made an equally big claim to kick-off the New York Comic-Con. Cinema Blend reports DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns expects to be releasing two DC comics properties in theaters for every year follow the conclusion of the Harry Potter franchise.
