'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' Loses 3D Release
A small victory arrive for naysayers of the popular and profitable 3D format as Warner Bros. announced today, via press release, that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I will only be released in 2D for both conventional and IMAX screens. The decision came as a result of being unable to deliver a quality 3D conversion by the time the film is supposed to hit the big screen on November 19th this year. Rather than upsetting the fans with a delayed release or delivering a shitty, rushed 3D conversion (looking at you Clash of the Titans), Warner Bros. has made the right move in avoiding any possible tainting of the two-part franchise finale.

Shia LaBeouf Joining 'College Republicans' as Young Karl Rove?
Though the actor is currently busy shooting the recently titled, future blockbuster Transformers: The Dark of the Moon, Shia LaBeouf has yet to line up a project following the robot-smashing sequel. While silly quarrels with Frankie Muniz are surely taxing on the actor, there is one project that seems to have caught his eye. 24 Frames says LaBeouf is interested in College Republicans, a story following a young Karl Rove (former White House Deputy Chief of Staff) as he vies for the position of chief campus conservative under the guidance of one Lee Atwater (the late, former Chairman of the Republican National Committee) as his campaign manager.

Check These Out: Stylish Character Posters for 'Morning Glory'
I'm a big poster aficionado so if I see something that catches my eye, I usually try and point it out. I wasn't initially planning on featuring these posters for the Bad Robot produced cute comedy Morning Glory, but after taking a closer look, I decided to anyway. I like the design, it's bold and unique and eye-catching. How often do you see giant, brightly colored text covering the face of a very famous movie star? Hollywood.com debuted these three character posters, one for each of the main stars: Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams. If you haven't seen the trailer for this news anchor comedy, you can still watch it here.

Watch: First Trailer for Peter Weir's Surival Film 'The Way Back'
Peter Weir is back! And he's back with a film titled The Way Back! An early low res official trailer for the film has debuted today (thanks to The Guardian) and can be seen below. The Way Back is an epic survival movie starring Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Mark Strong and Saoirse Ronan. Inspired by a true story, it tells the tale of a group of prisoners who escaped the Soviet Gulag in 1940 and traveled over 4000 miles across some of the most dangerous terrain in the world. I missed this in Telluride and I regret it as it looks like it's right down my alley. I love his style and the epic but intimate feel to the story. Check this out!

First Full Look: Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe Revealed
Hot damn I love Williams! Beating Naomi Watts to the punch with this portrayal first, Michelle Williams has started shooting a new film called My Week with Marilyn where she plays the blonde bombshell and sex symbol extraordinaire Marilyn Monroe. The Weinstein Company made the announcement today (via Deadline) that filming had begun and attached a first look photo of Williams in costume as Monroe (thanks to HeyUGuys for pointing this out) which you can see below. The film is based on Colin Clark's book about Marilyn Monroe's time in London in 1957 shooting the Laurence Olivier film The Prince and the Showgirl.

Another New 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' Trailer with a Dragon
There are dragons in Narnia? Well I'll be damned. Yet another new full-length international trailer for Fox's The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader debuted yesterday and I was just convinced to post it by @equustel on Twitter, mostly because of that dragon fight at the end. This actually looks really good, I mean like really, really good - I want to see it! This seems like one of those great fantasy adventures, but there's something much more appealing about this than the other two movies. Did Fox actually take this franchise right out from under Disney and make it better than its been before? Take a look yourself. Enjoy!

Tom Cruise is Still Developing a Competing 'Flying Tigers' Film
Though we once heard news that Tom Cruise was going to be working with director John Woo on his story about the WWII air fighting squadron Flying Tigers, that turned out to be a bit of a mix up. Instead, Woo and Cruise were each independently developing their own separate takes on the infamous fighter squadron formed by General Claire Chennault to help the Chinese fight against the Empire of Japan before the United States entered WWII. While you would think Woo's seemingly faster development would've stopped Cruise from continuing his project with New Regency, Deadline reports they're still pushing forward with the film.

William Friedkin May Re-Team with Writer William Peter Blatty
The one and only time they collaborated, director William Friedkin and writer William Peter Blatty delivered the classic horror film The Exorcist. So it goes without saying that another collaboration between the duo would be an absolute treat. Therefore, it's my pleasure to point out the news from Rue Morgue Mag (via ShockTillYouDrop) that Blatty himself said Friedkin is interested in adapting the author's most recent novel Dimiter which was just published this past March. Blatty describes the novel as, "a supernatural suspense thriller set mostly in Jerusalem," adding that, "Billy Friedkin is eager to direct it as a film."

Is Darren Aronofsky Shooting 'The Tiger' Next with Pitt & Jolie?
There is an interesting story coming from the smart writers at The Playlist that's worth mentioning. While we're all waiting with bated breath to see if Darren Aronofsky does indeed take the offer for Wolverine 2, they're saying that he might already be gearing up to start shooting another entirely different project called The Tiger. You may remember hearing about this, as we reported on the project earlier this summer. The Tiger is an adaptation of John Vaillant's non-fiction book about a game warden who must protect a Siberian town when a tiger begins attacking its inhabitants, with Brad Pitt attached to star - but there's a bit more!

MGM Finally Recovering, Votes in Spyglass Execs as New Heads
Its been more than a year since it was first revealed that legendary movie studio MGM was going bankrupt and in need of financial support. We've covered occasional news stories about them ever since, but most of it has been business talk about getting financiers. The studio isn't out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy yet, but they have finally, officially announced that Spyglass Entertainment execs Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum will take over as co-chairman and CEO. The announcement was made by MGM, so it isn't premature news like with Miramax. Details are still being worked out, but this is the next big step for the struggling studio.

Fantastic Fest Review: Andre Ovredal's Awesome 'Troll Hunter'
Trolls! It's a premise that could very easily come off campy and without any sincerity at all. The thought of a found footage film about hunting trolls in the forests and mountains of Norway could work against the film. It could illicit laughter from the audience, as ideas of Harry Potter or Gandalf saving the day might fill their distracted heads from what is playing out in the film before them.
Thankfully, with Troll Hunter, director Andre Ovredal has achieved the extremely difficult. He has made up the idea of trolls living out in the wild, he has taken that myth that is so instilled in his own, Norwegian

Fantastic Fest Review: Adam Green's Gutsy Sequel 'Hatchet II'
Both Victor Crowley and the notion of horror franchising are still alive and well. When we last saw Crowley - the mutated ghost with a penchant for ripping people's heads open of Hatchet fame - he was pulling young Marybeth, the heroine of the first film, out of a lake by her hair. As with any decent horror sequel, this is precisely the moment we're thrown in at the start of Adam Green's Hatchet II. Luckily for Marybeth, now played by Danielle Harris, as well as the producers behind the Hatchet franchise, she escapes and becomes a survivor who then takes a team back into the woods to finish Crowley off once and for all.
