Wesley Snipes Mentions Another Hoover Film, 'Blade' and More

Wesley Snipes

Though he's currently dealing with legal troubles with the IRS that could garner a 3-year stint in prison, Wesley Snipes is still looking to get some new projects off the ground. Recently the actor/producer told Deadline about his development of a period drama entitled Code Name Zorro. The story centers J. Edgar Hoover's campaign to discredit Martin Luther King by way of the titular operation which covertly attempted to subvert King’s influence over the civil rights movement by tarnishing his reputation. There's more on this project, Snipes' comments on continuing Blade, and a few details on a new family time travel film below.

Review: Eastwood's Hereafter Goes Through the Boring Motions

Clint Eastwood's Hereafter

I imagine an elderly gentleman walking down a gray sidewalk, arms resting at his sides, as he walks one small step after one small step. He moves slow. His aged bones allow him to move only so fast. You can't determine his destination, the place where he's taking so long to finally end up. But you do know it's taking him so long to get there that you go on about your business, almost uncaring of the location of point B.

And that is what I imagine when I think of Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, a film about the afterlife and about people who question what comes next after we die. Told over three stories that are unrelated at first, the film

Ole Bornedal Set to Direct Ghost House's 'Dibbuk Box' Thriller

Ole Bornedal

Acclaimed Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal (Just Another Love Story, Deliver Us from Evil) is hitting Hollywood with a horror thriller called Dibbuk Box in the works at Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. Heat Vision says Lionsgate is pushing this forward in hopes of shooting in January 2011. The film, written by Juliet Snowden & Stiles White (Boogeyman, Knowing), was inspired by this LA Times article about a real-life haunted box. Dibbuk Box, in the vein of The Exorcist or The Shining, is about what happened after a family wound up with the haunted box, setting off a harrowing struggle to rid themselves of its evil curse.

Laeta Kalogridis Rewriting Cameron's Fantastic Voyage Remake

Laeta Kalogridis / Fantastic Voyage

Finally, an update on a project that we haven't heard from in some time, at least since earlier in the summer. Heat Vision reports that writer Laeta Kalogridis, who worked on Avatar, Shutter Island, and is currently writing Ghost in the Shell, Nine Lives and Battle Angel, has been hired to re-write the screenplay for James Cameron's Fantastic Voyage remake. We presume this still isn't going to be directed by Cameron, as he's already got too much going on. At one point, Paul Greengrass was attached to direct, but dropped out rather quickly. So it looks like Fox is trying to workshop this until they can get a new version up and running again.

Don Coscarelli Already Shooting New Film 'John Dies at the End'

John Dies at the End

You don't know who Don Coscarelli is? Well, Don Coscarelli is the filmmaker behind the trippy Phantasm series of horror movies as well as cult classic Bubba Ho-Tep. He was supposed to be working on the Ho-Tep sequel, Bubba Nosferatu, but according to a new report from Quint on AICN, Coscarelli is actually shooting another film right now, titled John Dies at the End, based on David Wong's novel. He's apparently been "covertly filming the movie" and actually has wrangled Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown for roles in the film alongside newcomers Chase Williamson and Rob Mayes (Sorority Wars) as the actual leads. Trippy Interactive Site for Aronofsky's 'Black Swan' Launched

Black Swan

Fox Searchlight continues to impress me with their marketing. The indie studio has launched a website for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan located at the appropriately titled IJustWantToBePerfect.com (which makes sense because the film is about a ballerina achieving perfection - watch the trailer). The site features a calendar-like layout where "fragments" of the film are unveiled specific days, essentially a countdown. You can post individual fragments to your social networking site of choice. It even comes complete with a Twitter account and Facebook page for Natalie Portman's character Nina Sayers - @TheSwanQueen. Check it out!

Watch: Liam Neeson Loses His Identity in the 'Unknown' Trailer

Unknown Trailer

"There is no Martin Harris. He doesn't exist." Whoa! Apparently this is was a very popular script around town years ago that finally got made. Unknown, shortened from the original title Unknown White Male, stars Liam Neeson as a man who takes up from a coma to find out that his identity has been stolen and that not even his wife recognizes him. The cast also includes January Jones, Diane Kruger, Frank Langella, Aidan Quinn. This has kind of a Taken mashed with Bourne Identity feel to it, with a little hint of Mission: Impossible. For a moment I thought it was going suddenly go sci-fi, but it looks like a great action thriller.

Initial Cast for 'The Hobbit' Announced + Freeman Confirmed!

Martin Freeman / The Hobbit / Richard Armitage

With the epic two-part adaptation finally getting the greenlight, it's time to turn our attention to casting on The Hobbit. Warner Bros, New Line and MGM jointly announced today the initial cast for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, confirming that Martin Freeman will indeed play Bilbo. They also list the actors who'll make up the Company of Dwarves. "There has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us," Jackson explained. "There are a few times... when you come across an actor [who] was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave - exactly like Bilbo... he is our Hobbit."

Stephen Norrington is No Longer Directing 'The Crow' Remake

The Crow

It looks like Wahlberg might be behind a regime change with this. After reporting a few days ago that Mark Wahlberg was the front-runner for the role of Eric Draven in The Crow remake, we now have word from Comics2Film that director Stephen Norrington isn't involved anymore. Norrington, infamous for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, was the one who originally spearheaded development on this back in 2008. When the site got in touch with him for an update, he replied with, "I don't know about that story but I can tell you I'm no longer involved with The Crow." Rumors are that it might've been because of Wahlberg.

Singer's 'Jack the Giant Killer' is Greenlit, Wants Aaron Johnson

Aaron Johnson / Jack the Giant Killer

I'm happy to report that Bryan Singer's next project, Jack the Giant Killer, has been greenlit by Warner Bros and will start shooting in spring of next year. Jack the Giant Killer is the project that WB pulled Singer back to when he tried to direct X-Men: First Class. There's been so much early visual effects prep work, they brought on Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) to do a rewrite of before the greenlight. Jack the Giant Killer is a modern take on the classic fairy tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened. A farmer leads an expedition into the giants' kingdom to rescue a kidnapped princess.

Danny Boyle May Still Be Involved with 'My Fair Lady' Remake

Danny Boyle

The release of the thrilling true story of real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston's brush with death in 127 Hours is just around the corner, but everyone is still wondering what director Danny Boyle is looking to tackle next. There's been rumors of another 28 Days Later sequel and a remake of My Fair Lady, but no solid evidence to suggest either is a sure thing. Recently The Playlist (which is now located at indieWIRE) sat down with Boyle to chat about these potential projects, and elaborated on his desire to direct a musical, and some interesting observations regarding the classic Hollywood genre in other cultures. Read on!
