Watch: Intense International 'Battle: Los Angeles' Teaser Trailer

Battle: Los Angeles

"We can not lose Los Angeles." A few days ago we featured the very first extremely impressive teaser trailer for Jonathan Liebesman's Battle: Los Angeles, which looked like Black Hawk Down plus aliens starring Aaron Eckhart. Well, not long after that teaser hit, another international version appeared on the official website, but we decided to wait a few days so there wouldn't be any confusion and everyone could enjoy that first teaser. This one, instead of using a fantastic song to set the mood, gets intense rather quickly and has a District 9-like feel with lots of news footage. It still looks badass, but in a totally different way. Check it out!

Sound Off: The Strause Brothers' Skyline - What Did You Think?

Strause Brothers' Skyline

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? They're brothers, visual effects wizards, and filmmakers - Colin & Greg Strause - and their second feature film after AVP:R, a low budget sci-fi movie called Skyline, hits theaters today. Starring a cast of little known actors, including Eric Balfour and Donald Faison, the action takes place mostly around one apartment. How was this surprise sci-fi contender that we first learned about at Comic-Con this year? Was it worth the hype? How are the visual effects and aliens they encounter? If you've seen it, leave a comment below and let us know what you thought of the Strause Brothers' Skyline!

First Look at the Aliens from ImageMovers 'Mars Needs Moms!'

Mars Needs Moms!

Over at StitchKingdom (via SlashFilm) they have unveiled the first official photo featuring a few of the aliens from the upcoming Disney animated movie Mars Needs Moms! produced by ImageMovers Digital. We've only seen one poster for this so far but no actual characters yet, so I thought it was worth pointing out, just because there is something intriguing about it. I don't know whether it's the Sims like people (I'm sure they look better in full form) or the creepy mega-parted hair the alien guy on the left has, but it's definitely worth seeing. I'm sure we'll see a trailer for this soon as well. Check out the first Mars Needs Moms photo below!

Friday Deals: 'Rosaline' Adaptation; Sci-Fi 'Year 12' Gets Director

Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber

There's a couple of acquisition and directing deals announced that I thought were worth mentioning. First, from Deadline: Fox 2000 has acquired rights to Rebecca Serle's forthcoming novel Rosaline, a twist on the classic Romeo & Juliet story. Director Shawn Levy will produce through his company 21 Laps. Adapting the script will be 500 Days of Summer writers Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber (above), who lined up quite a few of these quirky romance projects following 500DOS. Rosaline is a contemporary version set in a high school, with the love story being told from the vantage point of Rosaline, jilted ex-girlfriend of Romeo.

Date Shifts: Universal Moves 'Fast Five' to April, Pulls 'The Thing'

The Thing

A few interesting release date changes out of nowhere to report on tonight. Box Office Mojo updated their release schedule showing that Universal has moved Fast Five, the new sequel in the Fast and the Furious franchise, up to April 29th, 2011 from June 10th. That date was also the same day The Thing prequel was going to hit, but that has been pulled from its April release and listed as TBD: to be determined. I confirmed the changes with Universal and asked if The Thing was going to be released earlier or later, but was told they still haven't decided on a new date yet. Maybe that's why we haven't seen the teaser trailer online yet either.

Watch: One More Quick Red Band 'Love and Other Drugs' Trailer

Love and Other Drugs Trailer

"Who can sell a dick drug better than me?" Fox has debuted a last minute red band trailer on Break.com for their upcoming romantic comedy Love and Other Drugs starring the always charming Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. Sex sells. Unfortunately, the sex sells part of this trailer makes it look more like your run-of-the-mill comedy than the powerful romantic comedy that this supposedly is. Even his friend/brother/roommate/whoever (Josh Gad) looks annoying. Maybe I'm being too harsh, this doesn't look that bad, but I'm not sure this trailer is going to help much. Watch it below and let me know if you like it more than I did?

Carey Mulligan Now Frontrunner for Luhrmann's 'Great Gatsby'

Carey Mulligan / The Great Gatsby

Over a month ago we reported on some tasty casting rumors, courtesy of Prod Weekly, for Baz Luhrmann's highly anticipated new adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's roaring 20s novel The Great Gatsby. We haven't heard any confirmations on any of them yet, but Vulture is reporting that things now coming together. Word is that Carey Mulligan is "now the front-runner to play effervescent East Egg–er, Daisy Buchanan." The original rumor said Leonardo DiCaprio would be playing Jay Gatsby, which seems locked, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway and Amanda Seyfried as Daisy Buchanan, but it looks like Luhrmann wants Mulligan instead.

First Look at Amanda Seyfried in Hardwicke's 'Red Riding Hood'

Amanda Seyfried in Red Riding Hood

And now for something different. We've written about aliens and robots, so how about a first look at a dark new fairy tale instead? I've been waiting to get a glimpse at Catherine Hardwicke's new take on Red Riding Hood, mainly because I'm curious how she's going to extended the story into a full feature and put a unique spin on it for today. Our first look at Amanda Seyfried in this is actually not that impressive, because it's a scanned page from the latest Entertainment Weekly that ShockTillYouDrop put online and it's not really the best quality, but it'll do for now. And yes, there is actually a photo of Seyfried wearing the "red riding hood."

William Monahan Directing an Adaptation of Period Play 'Becket'

William Monahan / Becket

At the end of October, we got our first look at the directorial debut of writer William Monahan (The Departed) with the gritty crime thriller London Boulevard starring Colin Farrell. Now the Oscar winning writer has lined up his next project as Deadline reports Monahan will write and direct a new adaptation of Becket, the 1959 stage play from playwright Jean Anouilh. The period story follows the friendship and estrangement between King Henry II and the Archbishop of Canterbury. It may not seem all that bold of a project, but it'll be quite a challenge to make a splash when the 1964 adaptation (with Peter O'Toole) got 11 Oscar noms.

Watch: Teaser for Ruairi Robinson's 'Blinky™' with Max Records

Blinky Teaser

Whoa - another surprisingly great teaser to check out. SlashFilm posted a trailer today, originally found by Bloody-Disgusting, for an indie film called Blinky™. Yes, that ™ is actually a part of the official title, but that's hard to add everywhere, so we're just going to call it Blinky. The film was originally titled Bad Robot, but had to change for obvious reasons, and stars Where the Wild Things Are's young Max Records. It's a "story of a boy and his robot," but as you can tell by watching this fantastic teaser, it looks like his metallic friend might be going corrupt fairly soon. I love how creepily this trailer hints at its descent into madness.
