It's Official: Gore Verbinski to Direct 'The Lone Ranger' for Disney
Back at the end of September, we heard that Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp would re-team with the franchise director Gore Verbinski for a big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger. The two already followed their swashbuckling series with the peculiar, forthcoming animated flick Rango, but Walt Disney Pictures just announced that they've finalized a deal with Verbinski to direct the story of the classic western hero with Depp still on-board to play the Lone Ranger's trusty Native American sidekick Tonto. However, it's not clear how soon the project will get off the ground or even which actor will step in to the role of the titular hero.

Watch: First Official Trailer for Disney's New 'Mars Needs Moms!'
"Mom needs a little space." Disney has debuted the official trailer via Yahoo for Mars Needs Moms!, the upcoming animated sci-fi flick based on Berkeley Breathed's children's book. This trailer has been showing in front of Harry Potter, so some of you might have already seen this, but now it's officially online for those who haven't. The movie features the voices of Seth Green, Joan Cusack and Dan Fogler. This trailer seems a bit odd because it has the Zemeckis CGI rolled into a conventional animated movie and I'm not sure it works too well, it kind of looks goofy, to be honest. But that said, I'm a sci-fi nut, so I'm still curious. Check it out!

'The Dark Knight Rises' Will Be Christian Bale's Last Batman Film
Though Chris Nolan has confirmed he's definitely directing The Dark Knight Rises, for a while now, there have been rumblings that this sequel will likely be the filmmaker's last in the franchise, and perhaps the conclusion of a supposed trilogy. More support to those rumors comes from a recent interview with Christian Bale from E! Online. The actor said very simply, "The thing is that this will be, I believe, unless Chris says different, this will be the last time I'm playing Batman." And if he's going off what he's heard or talked about with Nolan, I think it's safe to say The Dark Knight Rises will also the his last Batman film as director. Read on!

Mark Wahlberg Will Not Be Starring in the Remake of 'The Crow'
Back in October there was quite an outcry in the comments about whether or not Mark Wahlberg should take the lead role in the gestating remake, or rather an all-new adaptation, of James O'Barr's comic book The Crow. Well, everyone who absolutely hated the idea can breathe a sigh of relief as Cinematical recently spoke with the actor whilst promoting David O. Russell's The Fighter where he revealed that he would not be part of the project. However, in his speaking about the project, it was revealed that his involvement was once very much a possibility, but a change of the guard behind the camera seemed to turn him away from it.

Gael Garcia Bernal is Playing Roberto Durán in 'Hands of Stone'
Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal (Rudo y Cursi, Blindness) has booked a role as five-time world boxing champ Roberto Durán in an upcoming biopic called Hands of Stone. Ben Silverman and Jay Weisleder are producing with Paul Webster of Shine Pictures. In addition to Bernal starring, Al Pacino is circling the role of trainer Ray Arcel, and Spanish actor Oscar Jaenada (The Losers) is also in a key role. Directing is Venezuelan-born filmmaker Jonathan Jakubowicz from his own screenplay. "The infamous 'no mas' fight is the biggest enigma in the history of boxing. This movie will answer that enigma," said director Jakubowicz.

Check These Out: Amusing Posters for David Lynch's Spider-Man
What if David Lynch directed a Spider-Man movie? Ohhh this is good. With all the wackiness we're seeing from Julie Taymor's Broadway "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" show, let's have a little fun with some other wacky Spider-Man artwork. Over on his own official forums, comic book writer Warren Ellis kicked off an online contest asking users to: "design a poster for a movie called Spider-Man directed by David Lynch. This is all you know." The results so far are hilarious (found via Badass Digest) and I've put up a few of my faves, including one with the best tagline: "Where does the Spider end and the Man begin?" Check 'em out!

"I'm already doing a commentary track on a movie that I'm in the middle of the director's cut," laughed Jon Favreau. One of the most popular trailers of last week was easily Cowboys & Aliens, the badass new comic book movie starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde, among others. In additional videos on MTV, Favreau also talks about casting and much more. Definitely can't wait for this!

Shooting 'Hugo Cabret' in 3D Has Scorsese 'Rethinking Cinema'
Though the popularity and love for 3D from studios and audiences alike has already taken off, veteran director Martin Scorsese is in the midst of shooting his first 3D motion picture right now. His adaptation of the children's book The Invention of Hugo Cabret starring Chloe Moretz, Sacha Baron Cohen and more is being natively shot in 3D. Word has come through the grapevine that production has been slow-going because of all the logistical issues of shooting in 3D, but also because Scorsese has found himself approaching filmmaking a little differently as he crafts his film with the third dimension in mind for audiences. Find out why below!

'Dark Knight' Producer Behind 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Reboot
Previously we'd heard about the potential of a new take on Buffy the Vampire Slayer without Joss Whedon being involved at all. Though the series creator wasn't bitter about the project, he just said he wouldn't be a part of it. Since then we haven't heard any new details. But today Atlas Entertainment, the company run by The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven, announced they are behind the project along with Warner Bros. They also revealed relatively inexperienced screenwriter Whit Anderson is behind the screenplay. No details on the story whatsoever have been revealed but having Roven behind the project certainly doesn't hurt. Read on!

Must Watch: Wild Music Video for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan
Speaking of The Wolverine director Darren Aronofsky, his phenomenal new film Black Swan arrives in limited theaters (New York & Los Angeles with expansion soon) starting next week. Black Swan is the ballet thriller with a supernatural spin starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis that's one of my favorite films of the year. We've already featured the official trailer and you probably have seen some TV spots or ads one websites recently, so everyone should know it's coming up. However, Fox Searchlight just unveiled a "music video" for Black Swan on Apple that is basically a remix of footage with some funky music over top. Enjoy!

Netflix Has Finally Released a Streaming Only Subscription Plan
Looks like we unknowingly timed the return of our Netflix Instant feature pretty well since Netflix announced (via their company blog) that they're now offering a streaming only subscription service. Anybody who wants all the benefits of viewing movies via Netflix Instant, but doesn't want to deal with those pesky disc mailers can now join the club for a price. However, this new benefit comes with a bit of a downside for existing members. Since the streaming service is apparently good enough to stand on its own subscription plan, all of the other subscription plans will be given a price increase. See details on the new subscription costs below.

Swiss Director Ben Hibon Set to Helm Supernatural Thriller 'Pan'
If you joined the masses this weekend in theaters to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I, then you're already familiar with the work of Swiss director Ben Hibon. Sure franchise helmer David Yates directed the film itself, but Hibbon is responsible for that sweet animated sequence where Hermione tells The Tale of The Three Brothers and the history/myth of the Deathly Hallows. Now Hibon is set to direct his own fantasy action thriller as Variety reports he's set to helm Pan, a story which we haven't heard about in nearly four years, that takes the classic fairy tale of Peter Pan and turns it completely on its head.
