First Look: Karl Urban Suited Up as the Law in New 'Judge Dredd'

Judge Dredd

We already know that a new iteration of Judge Dredd is on the way with Karl Urban putting on the helmet to deliver justice (and we've heard he won't be taking it off either). Now we have our first look at the actor completely suited up for the futuristic comic book adaptation snapped during rehearsals for the Pete Travis (Vantage Point) directed film. The picture isn't perfect, but we can see this doesn't have the same polished, plastic look from Sylvester Stallone's abysmal adaptation from the 90's, and that's a pretty damn good start. Check out the full picture below with the official synopsis for Dredd, which is apparently the title for this new take on the character.

Daniel Day-Lewis Cast as Abraham Lincoln in Spielberg's Biopic!

Daniel Day-Lewis

Since the project has been gestating for years now, it wasn't much of a surprise when we learned that Liam Neeson was no longer attached to Steven Spielberg's biopic of Abraham Lincoln, the iconic 16th President of the United States. Before his departure from the project was official though, Spielberg assured us that his take on the president's life was still on the way. Since then we've heard that the director would next tackle an adaptation of the forthcoming sci-fi book Robopocalypse, but a press release from DreamWorks pegs Spielberg as directing the biopic in the fall of 2011 and reveals that the stellar Daniel Day-Lewis will play Abraham Lincoln. Brilliant!

Michael Caine Says 'The Dark Knight Rises' Starts Filming in May

Michael Caine and Christian Bale

If there's one person who hasn't been all that shy when speaking about the highly anticipated sequel The Dark Knight Rises, it's the great Michael Caine. Whether it's simply his best guess or wildly inaccurate information, Caine usually has something to say that gets the online community in a tizzy. However, with the timeline leading up to the release of the sequel, combined with the casting rumors we've heard, this time it sounds like he might be right. Caine recently told Empire that he's expecting to have the script by January and is under the impression they'll be shooting the film in May. Hopefully we'll get official word on cast sooner than later. Read on!

Leonardo DiCaprio in JFK Assassination Film 'Legacy of Secrecy'

Legacy of Secrecy / Leonardo DiCaprio

We just found out about the menacing project that Leonardo DiCaprio lined up with an adaptation of The Devil in the White City. The actor is getting ready to shoot Clint Eastwood's Hoover biopic in the spring, but DiCaprio has already lined up yet another project. Variety reports the actor will star in and produce Legacy of Secrecy, an adaptation of Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann's non-fiction book of the same name. Apparently DiCaprio's father brought the book to his attention which includes new and recently disclassified information from the FBI and National Archives which hypothesizes a motive behind the JFK assasination.

Watch: First Look Featurette at D.J. Caruso's 'I Am Number Four'

I Am Number Four Featurette

I don't think many people are that interested in this movie yet, and it's hard sell because it's an adaptation of a new book that just came out, but it's gaining buzz. I took a closer look at the teaser trailer for D.J. Caruso's I Am Number Four a few weeks ago, and I enjoyed it more than when I first saw it. Disney / DreamWorks has debuted a new behind-the-scenes video that they're calling a "first look" featurette at I Am Number Four that focuses on lead Alex Pettyfer as #4 and his love interest played by Dianna Agron. Check out the fun featurette below, watch the teaser again, read our set visit report, and stay tuned for updates coming soon!

Fox Signs New Two Year Production Deal with Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky

Three cheers for Darren! Or maybe just two for two years? It was announced today (read the press release) that Fox Filmed Entertainment has signed one of my very favorite filmmakers, Darren Aronofsky, and his production company Protozoa Pictures to a two-year, overall deal. Under the pact, Protozoa will develop and produce films for both 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures. Ever since The Wrestler sold to Searchlight a few years back, he's been situated well within the studio, and I've seen him conversing openly with Fox head Tom Rothman at parties. It's obvious they like him or they wouldn't have him for Wolverine.

Fox Searchlight Adapting 'Wilson' for Alexander Payne to Direct

Wilson Graphic Novel

No, no, this isn't the memoirs of a lonely beach volleyball trapped on an island with Chuck Noland, this is a much different story. Deadline reports that Fox Searchlight has made a deal to adapt a graphic novel called Wilson written by Dan Clowes, published this year. Interested in directing is none other than Alexander Payne, the filmmaker behind Election, About Schmidt, Sideways and the upcoming film The Descendants, though he's not fully signed on yet. I haven't read the graphic novel, but it sounds like an immensely tragic story of an "opinionated middle-aged loner who loves his dog and maybe nobody else." This sounds gloomy.

Michael Hoffman Directing Coen Bros Produced 'Gambit' Remake

Michael Hoffman

As their new take on the John Wayne western classic True Grit nears closer to release, it looks like another gestating remake from a couple of my favorite filmmakers, Joel and Ethan Coen, is finally getting off the ground. Back in January we heard the Coen brothers' remake of the 1966 British caper comedy Gambit might finally come together. Since then the only news we heard was a slight chance that Doug Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Bourne Identity) might direct the film. However, Deadline says it will be director Michael Hoffman (The Last Station, One Fine Day) at the helm of a feature that has been in development for years.

Howard Shore Returning to Score 'The Hobbit' for Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson and Howard Shore

After spending four years on the score to Peter Jackson's masterful adaptation of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, composer Howard Shore is pretty much in tune (no pun intended) with the director's musical desires and how to bring Middle Earth to life through his compositions. Today brings good news for fans of his award winning talents as The Province reports (via ComingSoon) that Shore has revealed that he will indeed return to compose the score for the long-gestating adaptation of The Hobbit. The composer was confirmed to be onboard when Guillermo del Toro was still directing, that was two years ago, and a lot has changed since then. Read on!

Disney Starts the Engine on Techno Action Thriller 'Hovercar 3D'

Hovercar 3D

Apparently Disney is still high on the fast-paced action of light cycles from the forthcoming Tron Legacy as the studio has just lined up another high-speed techno action thriller. 24 Frames reports the Mouse House have been developing Hovercar 3D, an adaptation of a young adult book series from author Matthew Reilly. Apparently the property was picked up six years ago with the creators of Smallville behind the project, but development has started all over once again. Much like Tron Legacy, a relatively unknown director is being brought onboard in Fredrik Bond, who recently signed on to direct Year 12, a new sci-fi action film. Read on!

Four Awesome New Character Banners for The Coens' True Grit!

True Grit - Jeff Bridges

Oh hell yes - I can't wait to see this! IMDB has debuted an absolutely stunning set of character banners for the Coen Brothers' True Grit, their upcoming "family" (PG-13) western based on the Charles Portis' novel, starring Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon. The official trailer was debuted a few months ago, but every time I see it I still think it looks incredible. Everyone in this - especially the four on the banners below - looks fantastic, each as unique characters with a probability for multiple Oscar noms. This is one of those films left this year that I truly can't wait to see. Check out all four of the banners below!
