Looking Back: The Top 10 Highest Grossing Movies from 2010!

Iron Man 2

The year may just be ending, but today's earnings won't make or break THR's tally of the Top 10 highest grossing films from 2010. No matter how many times we cry about wanting original stories, less sequels and more bold motion pictures, the films that earn the most money at the box office seem to indicate other desires from audiences worldwide. Nearly every movie included in the ten biggest earners of 2010 is either a sequel in an established franchise or an adaptation of a book or series of books, and one remake. Only two original films cracked the Top 10, and you probably already know one. See the full Top 10 list below!

Looking Back: The Top 10 Best Official Movie Posters from 2010

Best Official Movie Posters from 2010

I absolutely love movie posters. Starting from my first job at the local movie theater to my online scouring tactics to get ahold of all my favorite prints, I can't seem to stop hoarding glorious posters despite the lack of open wall space at my own home. While they're most easily described as just another form of marketing for a studio trying to get an audience into a theater, there are some posters that are just as beautiful as art. Hell, certain movie posters are even better than some of the art that's been making its way to museums lately. But anyway, this isn't an art blog, so let's get down to my choices for the 10 Best Movie Posters from 2010.

Three More Random High Def 'The Adventures of Tintin' Photos

The Adventures of Tintin

I'm surprised we haven't seen a trailer for Peter Jackson & Steven Spielberg's upcoming CG animated The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn yet, as it arrives in theaters exactly a year from now, but I'm sure they're waiting for the right time. Instead, we have three new very random stills from the movie which SlashFilm found on SpoilerTV. They are available in high res - so click on to delve into them further. Seen below (top down): Silk (Toby Jones) with the Thompson twins (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), Tintin (Jamie Bell) pointing a gun at Barnaby (Joe Starr) and Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) out in the desert.

Javier Bardem & Viggo Mortensen Top Choices for 'Dark Tower'?

Mortensen / Bardem

While director Ron Howard recently opened up a little more about the upcoming unprecedented adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower series, we're now starting to get into the big news with this film and TV crossover. Treat this as a rumor for the time being, but the NY Post is reporting that Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) is the top choice to play Roland Deschain, last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers, and humanity's last hope to save a civilization that will crumble unless he finds the Dark Tower. And if he's not up to the task, then apparently Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) is a close second.

Sam Jackson, Luke Wilson & Leslie Bibb to Star in 'Meeting Evil'

Wilson / Jackson

Though recently he's dabbled in the role of one-eyed hero Nick Fury for Marvel's growing cinemtic universe of comic book adaptations, it looks like Samuel L. Jackson will be doing some very bad things in the near future. Scene Magazine reports (via The Wrap) that Jackson and former AT&T spokesperson Luke Wilson will star in an adaptation of Thomas Berger's novel Meeting Evil. The story follows a depressed real-estate agent recently fired from his job who crosses paths with a mysterious stranger (Jackson) in need of his help. Before you know it, the duo embarks on a day-long crime spree in a strangely odd symbiotic relationship.

Must Watch: Year of Awesomeness TV Spot for 'Kung Fu Panda 2'

Kung Fu Panda 2 TV Spot

2011 - The Year of Awesomeness! It seems a little early to see a TV spot for a movie that doesn't come out until May next summer, but it's New Years EVE, so why the heck not put out a New Years-themed spot? DreamWorks Animation has started airing a new 15-second TV spot (found first at SlashFilm) for their upcoming animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 2. We already saw a hilarious teaser trailer for this back in November, but this is a good little tease as well. I guess they're trying to own the whole year with some huge marketing - it might work, this is a sequel I'm actually looking forward to. It's short so check it out. Enjoy!

Rumor: Burton is Developing 'Nightmare Before Christmas' Sequel

Jack Skellington

Though it's a little late, here's a big holiday themed rumor for you to take with a grain of salt (maybe around the ring of a margarita you're having to celebrate New Years tomorrow). While promoting his new Broadway version of "The Pee-Wee Herman Show," Paul Reubens revealed nonchalantly that Tim Burton might be developing a sequel to the Christmas/Halloween stop-motion animated favorite The Nightmare Before Christmas. Dread Central asked Reubens if he'd like to collaborate with Burton again in the future. His response was that the director's busy slate was preventing that opportunity, but then he dropped the bomb.

Check These Out: More Great 'Toy Story 3' Oscar Campaign Ads

Toy Story 3

After taking a look at that recent video highlighting The Beauty of Pixar, I found myself reflecting on how Pixar has crafted plenty of animated films that fill audiences with the same emotions that comes from even the most powerful dramas with the aid of live-action performances. And while I'm still skeptical of the film's chances to win the big award, I truly believe that Toy Story 3 would be worthy of the Oscar for Best Picture should Pixar's touching sequel take home the statue. Therefore I'm pleased to present to you even more of the spectacular Oscar campaign ads. We've featured a few of these before but now we have 13 more of these brilliant ads to check out.

Oliver Stone and Shia LaBeouf Considering Reunion for 'Pinkville'

Stone / LaBeouf

We haven't heard anything about the Vietnam War drama Pinkville since 2007. Even before the infamous writer's strike stopped the project in its tracks, director Oliver Stone's return to the controversial war already had Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson attached to star. But the extended strike pretty much rendered the project dead in the water and forced Stone to move onto W. which had a completed script ready for production. Now it seems Pinkville might have new life as IGN reports the commentary track for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps has Stone and Shia LaBeouf revealing that they have discussed reuniting for the project.

First Look: Corps. Member Tomar-Re from DC's 'Green Lantern'

Tomar-Re

Hey wouldya look at that! It's the holidays and things are quiet, so why not toss up this very first good look at the alien known as Tomar-Re from the upcoming Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds. The photo comes from ComicBookMovie and is obviously scanned from some magazine or promo flyer with the image, but it's still a good, clear look worth checking out, especially if you're a fan of the comics. Despite the overly negative reaction to the first teaser trailer, I've actually seen this guy in motion (he flies fluidly like a fish) when I visited the set earlier this year, and he looks great. I'm still very excited to see more from this!
