Comic Creator Rob Liefeld Wants Fox to Stop Sitting on 'Deadpool'

Deadpool

While the actor was busy getting involved with films like R.I.P.D. and Safe House, it was Warner Bros. rapid planning of a Green Lantern sequel (over a year before the first film sees release) that prompted Deadpool comic creator Rob Liefeld to second guess Ryan Reynolds' involvement with the anticipated adaptation of Marvel's Merc with a Mouth. On Twitter he surmised that Warner Bros is moving quick to keep Reynolds too busy to shoot Deadpool. But Reynolds himself came out to confirm his dedication to the property and quash any fears. But now Liefeld is back in an interview with MTV where he lays into Fox for twiddling their thumbs.

Magnet Releasing Picks Up Jason Eisener's 'Hobo With a Shotgun'

Hobo With a Shotgun

Briefly: Well before its official Sundance 2011 premiere in January, Magnet Releasing - the genre arm of Mark Cuban's Magnolia Pictures - has acquired distribution rights to Canadian filmmaker Jason Eisener's feature-length debut Hobo With a Shotgun, following his short film Treevenge. We've seen a trailer and poster for this gritty grindhouse flick starring Rutger Hauer as the hobo and there's already plenty of buzz for this coming up at Sundance and probably Harry Knowles' Butt-Numb-a-Thon this weekend. Congrats to Eisener and his entire cast & crew, as this is fantastic news for a film we're hoping will be an instant classic.

Michel Gondry's Animated Noam Chomsky Doc + 'The We & The I'

Michel Gondry

As we wait for The Green Hornet to hit screens in January, it seems director Michel Gondry is already looking to the future. Time Out London (via The Playlist) recently spoke with the filmmaker who elaborated on the previously reported project The We & The I and revealed a new project in the form of an animated documentary about American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, and political activist, Noam Chomsky. The doc will feature a series of interviews with Chomsky but the audio will be placed over an animated backdrop similar to "Shorties Watchin' Shorties" or TV Funhouse's "Fun with Real Audio".

TGB Episode 39: To Film Or Not To Film (Guest: James Marsh)

The Golden Briefcase

On this week's episode of The Golden Briefcase, Tim and Jeremy are joined by fellow Hong Kong-based critic James Marsh from Twitch Film to discuss their latest picks of the week, go over the newest DVD & Blu-Ray releases (including Christopher Nolan's Inception!), talk about the highly controversial trailer for Jodie Foster's The Beaver with Mel Gibson, respond to a recent listener voicemail and so much more! The main topic of the night was William Shakespeare's plays adapted into films, in honor of Julie Taymor's The Tempest (watch the trailer) hitting limited theaters this Friday. Another stellar episode - listen below!

Review: The Warrior's Way Gives Dull Action to a Stylized Setting

The Warrior's Way Review

What do the people in The Warrior's Way eat? They're in the middle of the desert in a small town with no discernible means of supplying nourishment to themselves. When the moment arises to actually plant anything, we cut to a massive garden full of flowers. Pretty, sure, but not really something to keep your body going. At one point, a character is seen eating a steak. Great, but where did that come from? Magical cows that suddenly appear out of nowhere to give their lives for the benefit of humans? Was the steak made of sand? Is there some unwritten subplot involving cannibalism?

Watch: Second Full Theatrical Trailer for Blue Sky's Animated 'Rio'

Rio Trailer

Time to fly. I just made that tagline up, but it works. Fox has debuted a new full-length trailer on Apple for Blue Sky Studio's animated comedy Rio, about a domesticated blue macaw who winds up in Brazil. This is the second trailer we've seen, following the teaser back in May, and it looks fun but oh so typical. We already know the two birds will hook up after the physically and emotionally challenging adventure. Plus when the teaser hit, we didn't know it was Jesse Eisenberg voicing "Blu" but now we do and it just sounds like him, not a macaw. Anyway, I'm probably being too harsh on this charming animated movie, so watch and enjoy!

Check This Out: Another Dark 'Cowboys & Aliens' Teaser Poster

Cowboys & Aliens Poster

This upcoming genre mash-up is easily still one of my most anticipated movies next summer, but they've got a long ways to go if they want to actually turn this into a huge hit, especially since it's coming out late in the summer, the same weekend as Comic-Con and two weeks after the final Harry Potter. Empire has unveiled another dark, shadowy teaser poster for Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens featuring Daniel Craig once again. This compliments the first teaser poster (which Favreau recently complained was too similar to the I Am Number Four poster, but I don't think so) as well as the badass teaser trailer. Check out the new poster!

Mark Wahlberg Producing Feature Adaptation of 'The Raven' Short

The Raven

Though he'll be in front of the camera angering some video game fans in David O. Russell's adaptation of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, it looks like Mark Wahlberg will be busy behind the scenes elsewhere by producing a film inspired by a much buzzed about short film. Heat Vision reports the actor will produce a feature length version of Ricardo De Montreuil's short film The Raven (which you can watch in its entirety right here). The story follows follows Chris Black, a man who possesses a power that could lead to the destruction of a robotic regime of police in an alternate, futuristic Los Angeles, and they will stop at nothing to destroy him.

Shia LaBeouf & Tom Hardy Head to 'Wettest County in the World'

Shia LaBeouf / Tom Hardy

Though we were quite anxious to see John Hillcoat's adaptation of The Wettest County in the World get off the ground with Amy Adams, Ryan Gosling and Shia LaBeouf, unfortunately the project, which came to be known as The Promised Land, was shut down because funding just couldn't be found. Now, almost a year later, it seems the economy and the film industry has turned around enough to get the film back on track. In addition, 24 Frames reports LaBeouf has stuck around to stay aboard the project and now Tom Hardy will join him as a couple of bootleggers in a family of lawbreakers selling moonshine during the Great Depression.

The Wachowskis Have Another Secret New Project Called 'Hood'?

Dark Robin Hood

Um wait what - where did this come from? Heat Vision has just published a very interesting exclusive story stating that the Wachowski Siblings, Andy and Lana, have another secret project in the works that isn't Cobalt Neural 9 or the Cloud Atlas adaptation that Halle Berry was just talking about coming up. So what is it? Apparently it's called Hood and, you guessed it, it's another "modern, urban take on the Robin Hood myth." Didn't we just go through this with Ridley Scott? Apparently they wrote the script and are directing, but how soon, no one knows? As always, Joel Silver is producing the project, and it's "shrouded in secrecy."

Hugh Jackman Hypes Up Working with Aronofsky on 'Wolverine'

Darren Aronofsky / Hugh Jackman Wolverine

First, congrats to Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan for a fantastic opening weekend. For as much discussion as there's been surrounding Aronofsky's take on The Wolverine, one person we haven't heard much from is Hugh Jackman. However, Entertainment Weekly finally caught up with the actor/singer, who spoke in detail about some of the prep he's doing and how excited he is to work with Darren. He's also been asked to gain 25 lbs of muscle, "which is more than I ever have for the role" he says, so he actually called up Dwayne Johnson for advice. "I rang him up and was like, Okay, tell me what's going on." More of his quotes below!

Check This Out: First New Poster for James Cameron's 'Sanctum'

Sanctum Poster

Dare I make the pun and say that this official poster for James Cameron's Sanctum is "breathtaking"? Nah, I'll restrain myself, but it is a flashy poster. I realized that they can essentially throw any imagery from the movie on here, over-contrast it and fade it dark blue, slap some bubbles on it and bam -- it's exciting! Anyway, I'm sure we've all seen the trailer and know that this doesn't look that amazing, but it does remind me of one of my guilty pleasures - Deep Blue Sea. And if this movie can be that fun and harmless, then bring it on. The new poster comes from ComingSoon and does actually look pretty damn cool - check it out below!
