Mondo and Olly Moss Unveil Three Stunning 'Star Wars' Posters

Empire Strikes Back

We've featured some great work from artist Olly Moss as he's crafted some of the most stunning alternate posters for various films. From his work for The Alamo Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow this year, to a simple yet fantastic poster for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. Now Mr. Moss has teamed up with Mondo Tees again (who always has plenty of great art up for grabs) for three stunning Star Wars posters highlighting each of the films in the original trilogy. Using some of the memorable scenery from each and silhouettes of three iconic characters, Moss created some of the most unique Star Wars art I've ever seen.

Check This Out: First Official Teaser Poster for Battle: Los Angeles

Battle: Los Angeles

Isn't it a little late for something like a teaser poster? ComingSoon has revealed the first official poster for Jonathan Liebesman's exciting new alien invasion movie Battle: Los Angeles starring Aaron Eckhart and a young platoon of Marines. We've seen a couple of badass trailers for this and know what to expect (Black Hawk Down with aliens) but this poster seems like something we should've seen six months ago before any trailers or anything. Now it just seems kind of boring when we already know the action this has in it. Cool imagery, but come on, this is it? I hope we see more cool posters for Battle: Los Angeles soon. Check it out!

17 Minutes of Lost Footage from '2001: A Space Odyssey' Found!

2001: A Space Odyssey

Back in September, our Indie Trailer Sunday feature called attention to Beyond the Infinite: The Making of a Masterpiece, a documentary on Stanley Kubrick's classic film 2001: A Space Odyssey. In the hands of Douglas Trumball, effects supervisor on the iconic film, and David Larson, the doc was exploring "not just the technical story but the human story, the personal story, the experiences of people who interacted with Kubrick that is really true to the style and look of 2001: A Space Odyssey." But while the doc has since been canceled, the two learned Warner Bros has discovered 17-minutes of cut footage that was presumed lost.

Director Jonas Pate Takes the 'Bait' from Writer Bret Easton Ellis

Sharks

Moving from writing novels-turned-films like American Psycho and Rules of Attraction, author Bret Easton Ellis made his screenwriting debut with The Informers. While the film was very much panned in its limited release, Ellis is still moving forward with his screenwriting career as Variety reports his script for a thriller called Bait has just landed Jonas Pate ("Battlestar Galactica") to direct the film. Set in Spain, the story follows a disturbed woman who holds a group of American students hostage in shark-infested waters. Seems like a diabolical plot that a James Bond villain would craft, but sharks have an entire week dedicated to them, so it must be serious.

Eric Bana Circling 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter', Joins 'KIN'

Cover / Bana

Though Daniel Day-Lewis may be taking the role of Abraham Lincoln for Steven Spielberg's long-gestating biopic, the esteemed actor certainly isn't going to be stepping into Honest Abe's shoes when he's forced to slay monsters in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. However, it does sound like we have a contender for the role as The Wrap reports Eric Bana is circling the role in the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's novel of the same name. Sounds like decent casting since Bana does share a slight resemblance with the iconic 16th president of the United States and he's definitely had major action experience as Ang Lee's less impressive iteration of Hulk.

Casting Tidbits: Rosario Dawson, Sienna Miller and Dennis Quaid

Dawson / Miller / Quaid

This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny f*ckin' Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of Casting Tidbits this side of the nuthouse. First up, the sizable ensemble cast of Ten Year has just grown even more as Risky Biz reports Rosario Dawson (Unstoppable) and Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will star alongside other stars like Chris Pine, Justin Long and Anna Faris in a story which follows a group of friends attending a ten year high school reunion.

Watch: Crazy New UK Trailer for Simon Pegg & Nick Frost's 'Paul'

Paul Trailer

"I can honestly say, this is the most fun I have ever had." You know you want to watch this! Yahoo UK has debuted a brand new full-length theatrical trailer for Greg Mottola's Paul, the wacky sci-fi stoner comedy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The movie follows these two British comic book nerds who are road tripping across the US but encounter and befriend an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) who it turns out is basically like... Seth Rogen as an alien. I thought the first trailer for Paul was hilarious and this one is damn funny, too. I don't know why everyone isn't as amazed and entertained as I am, but I love it. Enjoy!

Final Poster for Seth Rogen's 'The Green Hornet' in 3D Unveiled

The Green Hornet Movie

Britt Reid and Kato are back! Let's hope you know who those two are. I didn't want to ruin the simple beauty of the poster, so I used a separate photo as the teaser above. Sony has debuted (via IGN) the final poster for Seth Rogen's The Green Hornet (watch the latest trailer), directed by Michel Gondry, and co-starring Jay Chou as Kato. I got to see The Green Hornet last night at a screening in LA and the walls at the theater were lined with endless amounts of these new posters. It's a whole lot of action-movie-plus-goofy-superhero fun, but it's otherwise not the greatest. The humor was stupid and the story was a total mess, but I had fun.

James Mangold to Direct Contemporary Western 'The Gunslinger'

James Mangold

After fairly unsuccessful trying his hand at action-comedy with Knight and Day (although it is Fox's highest grossing movie of the year), director James Mangold may be getting back to westerns. Heat Vision reports that Mangold, director of films like Kate & Leopold, Identity, Walk the Line, the western 3:10 to Yuma and Knight and Day, is attached to direct a contemporary western called The Gunslinger. The project was just picked up by New Regency in turnaround from Warner Bros (read: they weren't happy with it). The script is from newcomer John Hlavin and is being produced by Andrew Lazar and Mangold's wife Cathy Konrad.

NY Times Critic A.O. Scott Chooses His 10 Best Movies of 2010

Inside Job, Toy Story 3, Carlos

Ah yes, time to get into some Top 10 lists. One of the most prominent critics still (successfully) writing for a major newspaper nowadays is A.O. Scott of The New York Times, who just published his 10 Best Movies of 2010 list. Scott also names his Top 10 "trends" as part of a Cinematic State of Things recap, with various topics like: "We are all figments of Leonardo DiCaprio's imagination" and "Only a great director can make a great movie, but a good actor can make a bad or mediocre or not-quite-great movie much better." It's a wonderful reflective article overall (read it here), but first let's check out his 10 Best Movies of 2010.

Must Watch: Matt Shapiro's Retrospective '2010: The Cinescape'

2010 The Cinescape

While I was blown away by the Filmography 2010 retrospective earlier this week, our old stand-by Matt Shapiro (known as oyguvaltshappy on YouTube), who started these cinematic retrospectives back in 2006, is back with 2010: The Cinescape. While his film selection isn't quite as expansive as Filmography 2010, Shapiro has carefully edited clips from many films including The Social Network, Black Swan, Tron Legacy and one great cut to Scott Pilgrim vs the World. While his only use of the films' dialogue is an invasion of your auditory senses in the beginning, the song he chose brings all of these to life in a great way.

George Clooney Starring in Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity' with Bullock

George Clooney in Solaris

Finally a replacement! For a long time, Robert Downey Jr. was attached to star in Alfonso Cuaron's highly anticipated new sci-fi movie Gravity, but the project has gone through quite a bit of pre-production woes, mostly involving casting. Downey Jr. dropped out last month due to scheduling issues and we worried his departure might put this on the shelf again, but thankfully that's not the case. Heat Vision is now reporting that George Clooney will star opposite Sandra Bullock in Gravity, which will put him back up in space like in the Solaris remake from 2002. Remarkably, these two actors haven't been in the same movie before.
