Independent Spirit Awards - Precious Director Lee Daniels

The Independent Spirit Awards are an annual award given in the name of independent film, featuring plenty of those little indies which deserve the honor and recognition that they won't necessarily be receiving at the Oscars. The winners were announced tonight at an awards ceremony held in Downtown Los Angeles (different from the beach this year). Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire won all 5 awards in all of the categories that it was nominated for, sweeping the Spirit Awards this year, including the coveted Best Feature award. A lot of other great indie film winners can be found below, so read on for the complete list!

You'll notice an [IMDb] link next to each film. This is so you can discover great new films, because there is guaranteed to be at least one film you've never heard of in here. Read on for a complete list of nominees and winners from the 25th Independent Spirit Awards. Winners from each category are designated in BOLD.

For last year's list of nominees and winners, which included The Wrestler, Milk, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and The Visitor, just click here. I'm not really sure if these are an early indication of what's to come at the Oscars in a few days. The Spirit Awards usually choose good winners, but they're not always representative of what happens at the Oscars, mainly because half of the films here weren't even nominated at the Oscars. The Hurt Locker wasn't in contention because it originally showed at film festivals in 2008. But I am happy to see 500 Days of Summer win! A very big indie congratulations to all of this year's winners & nominees!

That's cool Woody won. He's really good in Messenger. If it wasnt for Waltz in I.B. I would be rooting for Harrelson Sunday night.

Alex, The Coen's picked up the Robert Altman Award for "A Serious Man", which I believe goes for ensemble cast or something.

Anyone know how The Last Station or Evening Sun was? I've been wanting to watch those 2, but didn't know if they were worth the time.
