Adam Brody, Alia Shawkat & More Look to Join The Oranges
by Ethan Anderton
February 28, 2010
Hot on the heels of the news that Hugh Laurie might finally be taking on a lead role for the dark comedy The Oranges, now comes word from THR that Adam Brody (Jennifer's Body), Alia Shawkat (Whip It), Catherine Keener (Synecdoche, New York) and Allison Janney (Juno) are on board to star in the Julian Farino directed film. In addition, it's confirmed that Leighton Meester beat out Mila Kunis for one of the key roles and Laurie is officially on board to play a man who has a romantic relationship with the daughter (Meester) of a family friend which (obviously) turns their lives, and both of their families, upside down.
Meanwhile, Brody will play Laurie's son, who falls for Meester but is shocked to learn she's having an affair with his dad. Shawkat will play Brody's sister, contemplating moving out and Keener and Janney will take on the roles of each of the family's mothers. A few of you may remember hearing about The Oranges before, since the Jay Reiss and Ian Helfer appeared on 2008's Black List in the #2 spot. This will be the first major feature film for television director Julian Farino, who previously has directed a handful of television series not to mention two seasons worth of HBO's "Entourage." Having this caliber of a cast situated around such a praised script has definitely piqued my interest, so stay tuned as this continues development. Interested?
