Alan Alda is the Villain in 'Tower Heist', Also Joins 'Wanderlust'
From his iconic role on the TV series "M*A*S*H" to recent turns in films like The Aviator and Flash of Genius, there's no doubt that Alan Alda is one of the finest actors of his generation. Most recently Alda had some fun on NBC's "30 Rock" and now The Wrap reports he'll have a bit more with not one, but two more roles in two different comedies. The first will see him paired with Ben Stiller, with whom he previously co-starred in Flirting with Disaster, in Brett Ratner's action comedy Tower Heist. The second has him joining Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston in the romantic comedy Wanderlust from writer Ken Marino and director David Wain (Role Models).
In Tower Heist, the story follows a team of operations and maintenance workers at a Manhattan luxury high-rise who use their inside knowledge of the building to stage an intricate choreographed heist of its penthouse tenant, a Wall Street capitalist not unlike Bernie Madoff (Alda) who defrauded the rank-and-file staff of their pensions. The project was only just recently given a greenlight after many different revisions by name screenwriters like Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can) and Noah Baumbach (Fantastic Mr. Fox). We'll have to wait and see if Ratner can bring it all together for a solid heist flick or not.
Wanderlust tells the story of a married couple (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston) trying to escape the city life for a counterculture existence. Alda will play Carvin, the head of a naturist village the couple encounters on their journey. Rudd wrote the script with Marino which has also reeled in the talents of Lauren Ambrose and Malin Akerman in supporting roles. Lately Aniston's collaboration with staple comedy stars like The Switch with Jason Bateman, has yielded decent results, so hopefully this will turn out all right. As for Alda's addition, this is just the kind of role with which I love to see him having fun. Anyone else happy to see Alan Alda again?
