Albert Brooks to Play Badass Mobster in Winding Refn's 'Drive'
Hell yes! Deadline has announced that Oscar nominated comedian, actor, and author Albert Brooks, of Taxi Driver, Broadcast News, Lost in America, and of course Finding Nemo (as the voice of Marlin) fame, has joined the cast of Nicolas Winding Refn's new action movie Drive. Earlier this week it was announced that Carey Mulligan and Bryan Cranston would be joining the cast with Ryan Gosling playing the lead role - a nameless Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a freelance getaway driver during robberies. Brooks will play Bernie Rose, a transplanted New York mobster who comes to LA and is "not to be messed with."
In Drive, the stuntman ends up in a bank heist gone wrong and must go on the run with a contract on his head and an ex-con's girlfriend (Mulligan) sitting in the passenger's seat along for the ride. Sounds intense, and awesome, and I can't wait to see Albert Brooks as that mobster chasing Gosling down. This is definitely going to be something to behold, bring it on Refn, this is what I've been waiting to see from him! Drive is an adaptation of James Sallis' novel written by Hossein Amini (Four Feathers, Killshot, Shanghai). Shooting starts this fall and I'm sure there's a few more names in the cast, so stay tuned. Is this awesome or what?!
