The Rite Trailer

There have been enough exorcism related films recently to fit into their own genre, but that would mean we still have many more to come (which is true). Warner Bros has debuted a trailer on Apple for a movie called The Rite, directed by Mikael Hafstrom (1408), starring Anthony Hopkins as an "exorcism expert" in Italy. I remember writing about this when it first got announced, but I had no clue what to expect - now we know. This has a much more epic feel to it than, say, The Last Exorcism, but I'm still not sure if it'll be any good. At least it has impressive production values, which may count for quite a bit in the end. Check it out!

Inspired by true events, follows a skeptical seminary student Michael (Colin O'Donoghue) who reluctantly attends an exorcism school at the Vatican. While there, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas, who introduces him to a darker side of his faith. Also with Ciarán Hinds, Alice Braga, Rutger Hauer, Toby Jones.

The Rite is directed by veteran Swedish filmmaker Mikael Hafstrom, of Evil, Drowning Ghost, Derailed and 1408 previously. The script was written by Michael Petroni, of Queen of the Damned, The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys and Possession previously. Warner Bros will be bringing The Rite to theaters January 28th.

That actually looks pretty awesome.

John Constantine could take care of this.

What other Exorcism film was he in? And Mikael Hafstrom is a visually very arresting filmmaker, that said, 1408 disappointed me on a lot of levels.

I'm a sucker for a good exorcism and this one looks better than most of the attempts out there. My only question is why is it always a girl who gets possessed by a demon/devil? I guess making an exorcism movie with a young boy would be too risque'

I thought The Last Exorcism was a letdown. I love Hopkins. I have hope.

I really like Hopkins so I'll see this. Creepy religious movies freak me out and I kinda like it.

Surely evil resides in everyone, often people say it was a demon who possessed their body and made them butcher their children, but really it's just humans.

Oh yes.

The sceptic part of the film is interesting and different. I want to see it.
