'Blue Valentine' Now Opening in Limited Theaters on Wednesday
We were very happy to see Derek Cianfrance's powerful relationship drama Blue Valentine get two Golden Globe nominations, for lead actors Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, but sadly none for Cianfrance in either writing or directing. But despite all that, people still need to get out and see this wonderful film and I'm happy to support it. Just like The King's Speech, which is not-so-coincidentally also being distributed by The Weinstein Company, Blue Valentine needs extra attention, but good news as Deadline reports that TWC has moved up the released by two days to next Wednesday, December 29th, in a limited release. Go see it!
Derek Cianfrance's Blue Valentine (watch the official trailer) also just overcame a huge obstacle a few weeks ago by finally convincing the MPAA to appeal an NC-17 rating for R instead, which was initially given for a harsh sex scene between Gosling and Williams, but I've seen it several times and it's not even close to going above an R-rated level. Blue Valentine opens on one screen in New York and Los Angeles on December 29th, then it expands into 10 markets on January 7th, with further expansion dependent on its success. Yes, it's a very small release, but hopefully it will pick up, as this wonderful indie film deserves to be seen!
