Casting Tidbits: Billy Crudup, Daniel Dae Kim & Kurt Russell
by Ethan Anderton
April 20, 2010
We're going to live on. We're going to survive. Today we celebrate our Casting Tidbits! First up, after hearing that Zooey Deschanel would star in Enchantress of Numbers, Production Weekly has followed up with more casting as Billy Crudup (Watchmen, Almost Famous) and Toby Jones (Infamous, The Mist) have also joined the cast. The film is a period drama from director Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) that will focus on the life of Ada Lovelace, a wholly interesting and brilliant English woman who's often regarded as the world's first computer programmer. No word on what roles Crudup and Jones will be playing though.
Next, Production Weekly keeps the casting news coming as they report Kurt Russell, Adrien Brody and Sharon Stone will star in Waco. Director Rupert Wainwright's official synopsis of the film from his own website says the film "will be the first narrative feature film to explore the events of the ATF raid on the David Koresh and Branch Davidian compound in Mt. Carmel, TX, the 51-day siege that followed, and the devastating compound fire that resulted in the deaths of 81 civilians. The movie cuts between ATF special agents, FBI negotiators, the Davidians on the inside, the tactical Hostage Rescue Team leaders, and the political machinations in Washington DC." Sounds like a real-life episode of "24."
Also, Heat Vision reports Daniel Dae Kim has already lined up his first film role following the end of the epic series "Lost", as the actor will join the already cast Samuel L. Jackson and Kellan Lutz in the action thriller Deathgames. The story centers on a young man (Lutz) who is kidnapped by a sadistic mastermind (Jackson) and forced into a modern gladiator arena, where men fight to the death for the entertainment of the online masses. Kim is playing a fellow prisoner, an artist who happens to be a master of kendo (samurai-style sword fighting), a skill that comes in handy when he competes for his life.
Finally, Heat Vision reports that Catherine Hardwicke's upcoming fantasy project has locked down 25 year old actor Shiloh Fernandez ("Jericho", "United States of Tara") as the male romantic lead in Girl With the Red Riding Hood, the gothic horror re-imagining of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. Fernandez joins Amanda Seyfried who plays the titular girl in a medieval village that's being terrorized by a werewolf. Hopefully this will see Hardwicke dealing with real werewolves, and not fake, muscular shirtless werewolves that are now all the rage in The Twilight Saga that Hardwicke helped kicked off just a couple of years back.
Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way.
