As you can see, my young apprentice, your friends have failed. Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station! First, STYD reports Steve Zahn (Rescue Dawn) and Ryan Kwanten ("True Blood") will join Peter Dinklage in the Joe Lynch directed horror comedy The Knights of Badassdom. We heard about this project back in January when Dinklage was circling the story which focuses on a group of Live-Action Role Players who find themselves facing more than their imagination when a wizard casts a spell from an ancient book he bought on eBay and a demon manifests itself with a taste for blood and souls.
Second, Variety reports the cast of the indie bank heist comedy has rounded out with the addition of Mekhi Phifer, Jeffrey Tambor, Pruitt Taylor Vince, John Ventimiglia, Matt Ryan, Greg Germann and Octavia Spencer. The group joins Ashley Judd, Patrick Dempsey and Tim Blake Nelson in the Rob Minkoff (The Lion King) directed film from writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (The Hangover) which tells the story of a bank robbed by two groups of crooks at the same time who both come under attack by a secret enemy (Dempsey) trying to save the bank teller whom he loves.
Also, Variety reports that actress Dania Ramirez ("Heroes", X-Men: The Last Stand) will star opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush, the action-thriller being directed by David Koepp who also wrote the script with John Kamps. The story centers on a New York bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia University to deliver. A dirty cop is desperate to get his hands on the envelope as well, and chases the bike messenger throughout the city.
Finally, Variety reports Spanish actress Elena Anaya (Van Helsing) has signed on to star in La Piel que Habito (translated as The Skin I Live In), the revenge thriller that reunites director Pedro Almodovar with actor Antonio Banderas. The story, which is a loose adaptation of Mygale, a novel by French writer Thierry Jonquet, follows a plastic surgeon who exacts terrible revenge on the man who raped his daughter. Almodovar consistently delivers unique and interesting stories, and this one should be no different.
Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way.
