"I got it. I got the Turbo Man doll, with the rock-em sock-em jetpack, and the switch that when you flip it goes "It's Casting Tidbits time!" First up, THR has some more casting for John Hillcoat's adaptation of The Wettest County in the World. In addition to confirmation of Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy in the period drama, Jessica Chastain (Tree of Life) has also signed on to star. Chastain will play Hardy's love interest in a story about bootlegging siblings who take the law into their own hands in Virginia during Prohibition. She's a big city woman who may be in a small town, but previously found herself caught up with gangsters.
Second, THR reports Neve Campbell will follow her anticipated return to the big screen in the Scream franchise with a starring role in the new drama Singularity. Director Roland Joffe is helming the film with Josh Hartnett leading the story as two characters, an archeologist who falls into a coma and a British captain in colonial India. Campbell will be playing Hartnett's wife, a fellow archaeologist in 2015 who ends up stuck in a sunken ship as she attempts to retrieve some sort of ring.
Next, ComingSoon reports that Tim McGraw (The Blind Side) has landed a role in Daniel Espinosa's thriller Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. Though he didn't reveal what role he's playing, the story follows a young CIA agent (Reynolds) who becomes the house sitter of a governmental safe house when a criminal (Washington) in hiding there must be transported to another location when the house comes under attack. The role will be a vast departure from his close-to-home turn in Country Strong.
Also Vanity Fair (via ComingSoon) learned that Kelly Maconald, who has been making waves on HBO's new drama series "Boardwalk Empire," will be seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II. She'll play the small but pivotal role of The Grey Lady, the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw and ghost of the Ravenclaw house at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We won't spoil her significance in the epic finale (though readers already know the whole story), but the franchise is lucky to have her.
Finally, Variety reports Angus Macfayden ("Californication") has joined Cameron Crowe's adaptation of We Bought a Zoo. The actor will play a zookeeper in the story of Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon), a struggling single father who moves his family to an estate that turns out to be a zoo. Scarlett Johansson is also slated to star in the film which will be Crowe's first film since 2005's Elizabethtown. Since Almost Famous is one of my favorite films of all-time, I can't wait for his return to the director's chair.
Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way.
