Casting Tidbits smash! First up, Heat Vision says Marvel's Thor has gained yet another cast member in Mexican actress Adriana Barraza (Drag Me to Hell, Babel) who will not be playing a godlike hero or villain but rather a human character. Little else is known about her character, but Barraza joins an already impressive cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba and Kat Dennings in the Kenneth Branagh directed film about Thor, the god of thunder, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions re-ignite an ancient war.
Meanwhile, one of the supporting cast members of Thor, actress Kat Dennings, has lined up another project as Variety reports she will be starring opposite Josh Lucas in the indie romance Daydream Nation. Written & directed by Michael Golbach the story centers on a disaffected high school senior who finds herself deposited along with her widowed father in a desolate Canadian hamlet where boredom leads her into an affair with a teacher and into a more promising romance with a druggie teen. While this sounds exciting, keep in mind that this does take place in Canada, and America's hat just isn't that thrilling.
Finally, the Dwayne Johnson action vehicle Faster, is in the midst of landing a couple of luscious ladies for its supporting cast as Variety reports Maggie Grace has signed on and Salma Hayek is in negotiations to join Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton in the flick. Written by Joe and Tony Gayton and directed by George Tillman (Notorious, Men of Honor) the story focuses on an ex-con looking to avenge his brother's murder, who is trailed by a veteran policeman. Oh how I hope there's car chases, fights and witty one-liners!
That's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits! Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way!
