You know your father was Captain of a starship for 12 minutes. He saved 800 Casting Tidbits. Including your mother's and yours. I dare you to do better. First up, Variety reports Sandra Bullock will star in and executive produce a new drama at Warner Bros. with The Proposal director Anne Fletcher at the helm. Very little is known about the untitled project which spawned from a pitrch from writers Pamela Falk and Michael Ellis, but it's described as An Unmarried Woman meets Saturday Night Fever. However, this will not be Bullock's next project to follow-up The Blind Side since she's looking to take a lead role in Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity.
Next, though he's been set to play famous cyclist and humanitarian Lance Armstrong in a long-gestating biopic, it looks like Matt Damon will tell the story of the Tour de France champion in a different way. 24 Frames reports the actor will narrate a new documentary about Armstrong from Academy Award winning director Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Casino Jack and the United States of Money). The Lance Armstrong biopic has been developing for six years, but with little to no progress, so Gibney figured he'd bring Damon and audiences a little closer to realizing it. Apparently the director is still shooting, but he aims to be finished soon.
Also, Deadline reports Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) and Michael Pena (Observe and Report) will join Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy and Alan Alda in Tower Heist, the action comedy from director Brett Ratner. The two new cast members join the crew of operations and maintenance workers attempting to rip off the Wall Street crook (Alda) who lifted their pension funds to maintain his luxurious lifestyle in a spectacular Manhattan high-rise. Quite an interesting assembly of talent for a film that has had trouble getting off the ground for years. It'll be interesting to see how the film finally comes together with the ragtag team of actors.
Finally, Variety reports the hilarious Kathryn Hahn (Step Brothers) has joined the cast of David Wain's romantic comedy Wanderlust. The film stars Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston as a married couple who try escaping modern society. Hahn will play a member of a commune Rudd and Aniston visit after moving from New York. Malin Akerman, Lauren Ambrose and Alan Alda have also already joined the cast in supporting roles.
Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way.
