Daniel Radcliffe & Lily Rabe Join Scott Hicks' The Lucky One?

I'm not really that excited by this, but I know it may interest a few of you. Nicholas Sparks is one of the hot authors in Hollywood right now, whose books are being adapted into tearjerker romances left & right (e.g. Nights in Rodanthe and Dear John). There's another Sparks adaptation in the works of The Lucky One, his book about a Marine who survives three tours in Iraq and attributes his good fortune to a photograph he carried of a woman he has never met. He then sets out to meet his good-luck charm when he returns home. SlashFilm just discovered, via Twitter, that actors Daniel Radcliffe and Lily Rabe might be cast in this.

The tweets come from producer Christine Vachon (@kvpi on Twitter) who said "Daniel Radcliffe and Lily Rabe were AMAZING together" after saying that she was going to "Doug McGrath's script reading." Given that Doug McGrath was originally attached to direct, it sounds like this is the same project. Obviously this is not officially confirmed. It was announced earlier this week that Scott Hicks (Shine, No Reservations, The Boys Are Back) would be directing The Lucky One with shooting starting in May. Warner Bros is developing the project with Denise Di Novi and Kevin McCormick producing (though they don't mention Vachon at all).

I like this news because if it's true it could be Daniel Radcliffe's opportunity to breakout big in a romantic role after Harry Potter wraps up. Sure he's already big, but I think he needs something strong to follow up Potter and this could be it. I'm not expecting to be into this because it sounds like it'll be another Nicholas Sparks sappy romance, with the Iraq war mixed in too, and that just ain't my cup o' tea. But I will be curious to see if these two are indeed the primary cast for The Lucky One. Would you be happy with these two?

I get the feeling Radcliffe will never be able to appear in anything without people automatically thinking HEY ITS HARRY POTTER!...I for one will never be able to take other roles for him seriously. Its kind of like Mintz-plasse with Mclovin. As for this as a whole sounds like another dimeadozen romance flick.

This sounds like a sappy romance. Maybe Daniel can do romantic films, who knows. Just wish he would choose a more interesting premise. However, we'll see.

Didn't they make this movie with Tim Robbins last year? It has the same title and the same story.

Whew..I'm glad it isn't true. I love Daniel, but this part is just sooooo not right for him. I'm a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks and this book was great. The main characters though are somewhere between 25-30. I mean the woman has a son and the guy takes on a friend/fatherly role. So to see a twenty year old do that? Weird.... I'm still holding out hope for Hayden Christensen or Timothy Olyphant.
