Director Sylvain White May Go Medieval Next in 'Pendragon'

Paris-born director Sylvain White has blazed quite a trail for himself. His career started out with the 2007 smash hit Stomp the Yard, which we thought would keep him in that genre forever. But he went the opposite direction and somehow landed the job of directing DC Comics' The Losers movie, set to debut next month. Now LA Times says White will continue down the action-heavy path with a new project called Pendragon, a medieval story "of knights and kings set in period England." New Regency is developing this project and White is who they want, but he's not signed on yet. However, it sounds like a fun follow-up to The Losers.
Medieval movies are certainly not a popular trend right now, even though we have a few like Your Highness coming up (in fact, I think the next big Hollywood trend might be heading up into space). Pendragon, from a script by newcomers Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, is an origin story about the characters like Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere as they meet at Camelot. It will focus on those various Knights of the Roundtable "who are reputed to have led a fight against a Saxon invasion in 6th century England" and, of course, it'll be made more cinematic for your viewing pleasure. Sounds alright, but isn't this a bit too similar to Excalibur?
