Avatar Re-Release Trailer

You knew it was coming, so don't get angry (again). IGN has debuted a new "trailer" (basically a 30-second TV spot) for 20th Century Fox's re-release of the Special Edition of Avatar. As reported and confirmed by James Cameron, the release will contain an extra nine minutes of new never-before-seen footage and will be your chance to see this in glorious 3D once again. I realize the backlash for Avatar has begun, but there are people (like me) who are excited to see this in theaters again. I also just love how epic it is: "the biggest adventure of all-time!" Wouldn't that be Star Wars or LOTR instead? Whatever, I'm still seeing this again!

Watch a new trailer for 20th Century Fox's Special Edition Re-Release of Avatar:

Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine on the planet Pandora who, as an Avatar - a human mind in an alien body - finds himself in a desperate fight for his survival and that of the indigenous species called Na'vi.

Avatar is both written and directed by Oscar winning visionary filmmaker James Cameron, of Piranha II, The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, and Titanic previously. He has been developing the technology to make this movie for the last 10 years. Fox will be re-releasing James Cameron's Avatar in 3D as an extended "Special Edition" in theaters on August 27th later this summer.

Un-believably, I still haven't seen Avatar so the re-release is good news for me. Tickets already booked for IMAX @ London in 2 weeks when I will be better placed to judge what all the fuss has been about.

"Biggest adventure of all time". Jeremy Renner might have something to say about that.

Dont get angry again? None of us got angry the first time. We were just saying its stupid. The only people who got upset were the Avatar fans, bitching about how some people, believe it or not, just don't like the film.

Great effects. Maybe the best looking effects film ever, certainly in the top 2 or 3; but the story is completely rehashed. As @#4 mentioned, it is a complete rip-off of Dances With Wolves, only not as compellingly told. It might look a bit more impressive in IMAX 3-D; but that's a lot of time and money which the story doesn't deserve.

15

the best and undisputed director of all time? are you sure about that? names like scorsese, aronofsky, malick, herzog, kubrick, demille, hitchcock, welles, and more are 100 times better than cameron.

OMG u "critics" are ridiculous.....how many movies are rip-offs of others? it doesnt make a movie bad, and if it does then u should stop watching movies altogether...

ray on Aug 13, 2010

23

I gotta agree that Cameron is the greatest director of our time, or at least the riskiest, and to me that means more than anything. I think he is the Orson Welles or Hitchcock of our generation. Comparing him to those names isn't fair because he would say they were his inspiration and not his competition.

Peloquin on Aug 13, 2010

24

pleoquin he's no orson welles, or Hitchcock. He is an accomplished director and his use of CGI is unchallenged, but CGI a movie does not make.

and yet...3 billion dollars world wide....so hate all you want. And to the guy who said "Dances with wolves in space" Shocking news mate, Star Wars=King Arthur in space!!

I don't think it's worth it to rail on a film that was made primarily to be a big dumb action movie. Even Revenge of the Fallen, a film I will gleefully rip to shreds to the amusement of friends and co-workers (I actually have something of a stand-up routine based on how shitty that movie is) is still just a stupid action movie, and if people want to enjoy it as such, who are we to judge? I mean, really... it's like eating candy or something. When you see someone eating a candy bar you don't tell them how retarded they are for enjoying it. It's made specifically because people enjoy it and thus will buy a lot of it. These flicks are the exact same thing. I didn't think Avatar was that bad at all. It's got problems, to be sure, but all movies have problems. Even the best movies have some rough edges. Avatar's got a lot of rough edges, but it's really not as bad as people say - at least on the net. I will never believe any negative criticism for any film if the reviewer or commenter is throwing around phrases like "worst movie of the year" or "pile of shit" or anything else. People who say things like that about a movie like Avatar have no idea what a bad movie is. They've probably never seen a truly "bad" movie. Transformers 2 is the closest to "bad" that big-budget-blockbusters have been since Battlefield Earth. Compared to them, Avatar may as well have been a Kurosawa film.

@Arthur Because past stories/motion pictures should not influence future adaptations? And if they do, by your standards they should be shunned and measured based on the success of the previous? I am a very progressive person, but you, sir, are really conservative in nature when it comes to movies and totally stand for why we can not have nice things.

I don't care, I am heading to IMAX on 28th August. The film is so magical, it's worth going for those 9 minutes. Besides, this is strictly for fans so why the heck are you people commenting about it if you didn't like it in the first place. I am with Alex Billington on this...

25, I'd love to hear your (bullshit) explanation on how Star Wars translates to King Arthur. 22, I've said it before, I'll say it again, getting inspiration from previous works is almost universal, and for better or worse tolerated, but Cameron lifted, the entire character arcs and storyline from Disney's animated Pocahontas. What was the result? Everything was predictable. Thats why I didn't enjoy it, I knew where it went from the start. All that money Cameron was paid for the screenplay was a considerable waste. Disney should sue.

Al on Aug 14, 2010

A great achievement in visual effects, and a really fun ride in a 3-D theater, but it's doubtful a few extra minutes of footage (i.e. VFX left on the cutting room floor) is going to improve the weak storyline and dialogue or characters. But it doesn't matter... Millions have paid and billions has been made. Yet more will pay to see it again.

Quote: #22 "OMG u "critics" are ridiculous…..how many movies are rip-offs of others? it doesnt make a movie bad, and if it does then u should stop watching movies altogether…" THANK YOU!, thats the point ive been trying to make people see. Ok yeah, we've seen the story done before or similar things like it but NONE of them are the same and with the movies compare with AVATAR (Dances with Wolves, Ferngully) the story isnt told in the same fashion. Avatar is more of a character study in my opinion, and not to mention the cinematography which alone is enough for you not to bash the movie. nobody rips ANY vampire movie for being like another Vantage Point vs Crash I Robot vs Surrogates Super Troopers vs Superbad ... its neverending... STOP!!!

Damian on Aug 15, 2010

34

#33 is right! I HATE all these new vampire films! THEY SUCK (no pun) What is it with all these teenage metrosexual EMO vampires??? WTF?!?!?! I should be SCARED of vampires, not be inspired to shop Abercrombie and Fitch!!! shit, in my day vampires sucked blood NOT c0cks!!! and werewolves NEVER shaved their chests and slapped each other on the ass! Thanks for reminding me #33. Now, on to avatar! "JAMES CAMERON is the Orson Welles or Hitchcock of our generation"!?!?!?!!?!?! I am insulted and demand satisfaction for this one!!! WTF? how old are you jr? Have you EVER SEEN an orson welles or Hitchcock movie!?!?!??!?!?! THese men were INNOVATORS not because they used tricks and technology but because they strengthened the STORYTELLING in their works, yes that requred some trickery but the point is that they used tech to strengthen how the story was told NOT how to disguise a weak story! I'll watch "The Magnificent Ambersons, Citizen Kane or the 39 steps ANY DAY over paying to see avatar again (or free for that matter) "And yet…3 billion dollars world wide….so hate all you want" -Hitler made more money than that...so according to you all my hitler hate is worthless? Yes, I agree that everyone should enjoy whatever they like and no I dont criticize candy lovers, however if that candy lover is someone I care for, I do tell them, "Hey, why do you eat that sh!t?? Let me help you, show you, teach you that there is better stuff out there for you to eat AND ENJOY that is much better for you and that will actually fulfill and More than satisfy your eating/entertainment needs" Ie: you can all enjoy eating sh!t and wonder why others eat like european kings and queens

You guys are just ignorant bastards who really don't get the film. I really cannot express how much our avatar fans hate u guys right now. Its such an insult and degrading act upon something so simple and enjoying. I feel bad for u ppl who just cannot see the beauty in this film and respect those in it. Hmm why and I getting mad? It already made the money it needed to triumph all of the other ass sucking movies. Its successful and well established into the forefront of the movie industry. So suck it haters because whatever u say, avatar will always be a part of this world for centuries to come. PS I can't believe I used so many words on here! I'm 14 by the way. Well educated
