Hugh Jackman Officially Starring in the Comedy 'Avon Man'

February 17, 2010

Hugh Jackman

Though we all love Hugh Jackman as the adamantium clawed mutant Wolverine, the man is quite a true talent harboring not only a ripped, action man's physique and prowess, but a flashy, singing and dancing machine fit for Broadway. It's good to see an actor take on such diversity at opposite ends of the spectrum. Now Jackman will be taking another leap into comedy as Production Weekly confirms rumblings we heard last July that he will star in the Kevin Lima (Enchanted) directed comedy Avon Man, the story of a car salesman who loses his job and turns reluctantly to sales of Avon cosmetics to make ends meet. How fun.

The comedy takes on a Full Monty vibe when the salesman sets out to save his financially strapped family and town by conscripting his buddies into the makeup business to win a regional contest. Take this back to the 1980's and toss Michael Keaton into the mix and we've got ourselves another Gung Ho too! And that's actually some form of a compliment because I think Keaton did some of his best work in comedies like Mr. Mom and the aforementioned auto manufacturing comedy. Anyway this will be a nice break from action for Jackman and I can't wait to see how he does in a straight-up comedy. Maybe this will give Fox some time to figure out how to make the Wolverine sequel much better than the first one. We can only hope! Thoughts?

Ever since his performance at the Oscars, I'll see anything Jackman is involved in...except for Australia, I tried it just wasn't good.
i think the ladies (maybe some blokes) are going love this film, not me though i think it will be total shite.

Jackman is 100% more talented than Keaton and has also many more projects he will be probably involved (and which we don´t know about). This sounds like fun and Hugh is one damn funny guy. Add his charm and his self-irony he gives into his roles and you have a winner. I´ll be there 😉

I agree Cred X with every aspect of your first statement. However, this is really old news.
  • @ #6, Clover, That's why it's a confirmation story more than anything. We've reported on this news before if you follow the "rumblings we heard" link so this is just a follow-up. Regards,

    Cred X? I like it.

'the man is quite a true talent' I couldn't agree more with you. As for Avon Man, I'm excited. It's good to see that Jackman likes to experiment. At last, an actor with versatility.

I look forward to this movie. I rather liked Jackman in Someone Like You and Kate & Leopold. He was able to be somewhat funny and charming in both movies. And you have to like a guy who is willing to take a round out of his macho image by playing the roll of a guy shilling Avon cosmetics. Just wondering who will be starring opposite him in this role, as well as if he's going to have a funny, faithful sidekick as these movies always seem to have.
i suppose if anyone owed him money he could just pop his claws & threaten them.

Hugh Jackman would be great in any movie. He needs to do another serious love story with a classy actress like Kate Winslet or Rachel Weisz, not silly girls like Sandra Bullock, Meg Ryan, or Scarlett Johansen. His Australia was dynamite, and wish it was on the big screen again!
