Though we all love Hugh Jackman as the adamantium clawed mutant Wolverine, the man is quite a true talent harboring not only a ripped, action man's physique and prowess, but a flashy, singing and dancing machine fit for Broadway. It's good to see an actor take on such diversity at opposite ends of the spectrum. Now Jackman will be taking another leap into comedy as Production Weekly confirms rumblings we heard last July that he will star in the Kevin Lima (Enchanted) directed comedy Avon Man, the story of a car salesman who loses his job and turns reluctantly to sales of Avon cosmetics to make ends meet. How fun.
The comedy takes on a Full Monty vibe when the salesman sets out to save his financially strapped family and town by conscripting his buddies into the makeup business to win a regional contest. Take this back to the 1980's and toss Michael Keaton into the mix and we've got ourselves another Gung Ho too! And that's actually some form of a compliment because I think Keaton did some of his best work in comedies like Mr. Mom and the aforementioned auto manufacturing comedy. Anyway this will be a nice break from action for Jackman and I can't wait to see how he does in a straight-up comedy. Maybe this will give Fox some time to figure out how to make the Wolverine sequel much better than the first one. We can only hope! Thoughts?
