Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work Trailer

Now that the Cannes Film Festival is over, and because we've featured a lot of foreign films in this column recently, I thought I'd pick something uniquely American to feature as today's trailer. A few weeks back, IFC Films debuted the official trailer for the upcoming documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, which is indeed about the (typically annoying) comedienne Joan Rivers. This is an indie film that actually premiered at Sundance and received rave reviews, such as this one from Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly. I'm not really a big fan of Rivers, but this is a fun and fascinating trailer, so check it out if you haven't yet!

Watch the official trailer for Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work:

A new documentary about the life and career of Joan Rivers, made as the comedienne turns 75 years old.

Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work was co-directed by filmmakers Ricki Stern & Anne Sundberg, of the previous documentary films In My Corner, The Trials of Darryl Hunt, The Devil Came on Horseback & The End of America. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and has also played at other film festivals. "Shot over the course of a year, the film enlists a resilient cinema vérité style to craft a moving look at this iconic performer, stripping away her comedy masks and laying bare the truth of her life and inspiration." IFC Films is bringing Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work to limited theaters starting on June 11th in summer.

She could just retire, she's funny and I like her, more than I like most plastic surgery addicts.
