Jason Bateman Will 'Change Up' Bodies with Ryan Reynolds
by Ethan Anderton
March 12, 2010
After making waves with last summer's breakout comedy hit The Hangover, writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore are riding their success right into another big comedy as THR reports Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman have both signed on to star in Change Up, a new film from Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin which revisits the old body switcheroo concept again for a story that sees a responsible family man (Bateman) switching bodies with his lazy, man-child of a best friend (Reynolds). I do like the idea of these two being in a movie together, but, seriously, how many different iterations of this old premise do we need?
I guess Change Up mixes things up a bit since recent variations on body switching have mainly been female-to-female (Freaky Friday) or male-to-female (The Hot Chick *shudders*), but surely there are plenty of the same jokes that deal with one person being disgusted/frustrated at how another lives, and wacky scenarios where the character acts out amongst their closest friends, co-workers and family members. We get it, you're not the same, and it's weird being in the other person's body. So why do we keep rehashing this? Hopefully Dobkin, Reynolds and Bateman can bring something fresh to it though. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
