Jemaine Clement Confirmed as the Villain for Men in Black 3
by Ethan Anderton
May 19, 2010
Though we had gotten confirmation that Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith would be returning for Men in Black 3 along with Josh Brolin being tossed into the mix, there was still no official word on whether or not rumors of Sacha Baron Cohen or Jemaine Clement joining the cast had any validity at all. Now it's official as Sony has announced that Clement has been cast as Yaz, a presumably alien villain who will give the Men in Black a run for their planet. No word on the specifics of his evil plans yet, but no matter what, this is great news for the franchise which truly needs some new life injected into it after the horrendous Men in Black 2.
The story will involve Agent J (Smith) traveling back to the year 1969 to meet a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones' character Agent K (who will be played by Brolin). Since we're not sure why he has to go back in time, or what dastardly plans Yaz has for the planet Earth, we can only speculate that it may have something to do with the historical moon landing which just happened to take place in the year 1969. Hopefully writer Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) is able to make the series feel fresh and come up with some interesting twists for the Men in Black. All I know is that Clement's got amazing comedic sensibilities and his work with Bret McKenzie on "Flight of the Conchords" proved that, even if Gentlemen Broncos didn't. Stay tuned for even more updates. Happy to see Jemaine Clement joining this?
