For nearly a year we heard nothing from The Wackness director Jonathan Levine, but in two weeks time he's lined up two high profile projects. The first one was I'm With Cancer, the second one is Warm Bodies. The Playlist was the first to break the news that Levine will be directing the "zombie-love" project described as Twilight meets Shaun of the Dead. The story follows an existentially tormented zombie named "R" who begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship then starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world.
Warm Bodies is, as expected, based on a book by Isaac Marion, who originally published the novel himself and sold 100 copies on his website. Marion's seed for the novel, called I Am A Zombie Filled With Love, can be read right here. Although the zombie genre (and vampire genre) is getting a bit oversaturated these days, but as long as Jonathan Levine is involved, I'm in. That guy is one of my favorite up-and-coming directors and I'm already excited for I'm With Cancer and Warm Bodies as well. I don't know if this "Twilight meets Shaun of the Dead" description sounds good to everyone, but I think it could turn out great. Stay tuned!
