Liam Hemsworth Cast in Chuck Russell's 3-D Arabian Nights

Set to follow in the footsteps of his brother Chris Hemworth (who's playing the God of Thunder in Marvel's Thor), actor Liam Hemsworth, who can next be seen swooning Miley Cyrus in The Last Song, is making a jump from sappy Nicholas Sparks adaptations to some serious action adventure as Heat Vision reports that he's in negotiations to star in Arabian Nights, an epic new 3-D remake from director Chuck Russell (The Scoprion King). The story focuses on a young commander (Hemsworth) who, after his king is murdered in a coup, joins forces with Sinbad, Ali Baba and the Genie from the magic lamp to rescue queen Scheherazade.
The script was written by Russell and Barry P. Ambrose and shooting will start in the summer. This will be a real test for Hemsowrth to line-up as a big future action star like his brother. Action and adventure is great and all, but it's going to be tough to beat Disney's Aladdin. I jest, but, in all seriousness, with sandy action flicks like Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia on the way soon, it seems like the ancient epic is in for a serious makeover. Russell's past efforts with The Scorpion King were lackluster, but nothing says action epic like his turn directing The Mask with Jim Carrey or Eraser with Arnold Schwarzenegger. You interested?
