After making a name for herself in supporting yet memorable roles in films like Mean Girls and Cloverfield, actress Lizzy Caplan made an even bigger name for herself on hit TV shows like HBO's "True Blood" and Starz's "Party Down" (available on Netflix Instant). With an upcoming appearance in the hilarious-looking comedy Hot Tub Time Machine, she's making the press rounds and told Collider she will appear in Danny Boyle's 127 Hours, the story of a mountain climber in Utah who had to amputate his own arm when it got pinned beneath a boulder. She also reveals how she'll be featured in this singular-character-focused film.
Since the story focuses on James Franco as the trapped climber, we've assumed that flashbacks would allow other cast members like Kate Mara and Amber Tamblyn to appear, but Caplan reveals a bit more:
"I play Franco's sister and most of the movie is James Franco stuck in a cave, but he has hallucinations, so there are other characters besides himself. And a boulder."
So there you have it. It sounds like his flashbacks are actually hallucinations (which makes sense for a guy stuck alone without any food or water for five days pinned under a boulder). A not entirely unexpected use of other cast members, but it should mix things up a bit since it's not all that generic of a story. There might still be flashbacks, but you would think the hallucinations serve the same purpose as flashbacks to develop Franco's previous relationships and such, although he will also apparently meet a few hikers at the start as well. Either way, it seems like these characters may actually get more screentime than the logline lets on.
