More Torture Porn on the Way with Hostel 3 Heading to Vegas

Eli Roth's Hostel

So if what happens in Vegas really stays in Vegas, then I would be very happy if that meant we'd never had to see another Hostel movie hit theaters, but alas Bloody-Disgusting reports that Hostel 3, which is moving the torture from Europe to neon lit Las Vegas, is gearing up to start production in August with Scott Spiegel directing from a screenplay by Michael Weiss. Of course Eli Roth is still producing the sequel which will see a bachelor party goes horribly wrong, not to mention a horror franchise, go terribly wrong. I really don't see why we need another one of these that isn't straight-to-DVD, although this probably won't hit theaters.

The first Hostel, released in 2005, made around $47 million while the second one dropped drastically in box office draw raking in only just over $17 million, so I'm not really sure why there's a big push for this one (or maybe there wasn't one and some producers are just making crazy decisions?) when sequels obviously aren't faring as well as they used to. Frankly, aside from never being a fan of horror franchises like this, these films have never seemed like anything more than a strange fetish for people who love seeing people pretend to be tortured brutally. But I guess enough people watch them. Anybody see any value in films like Hostel?

wow again u really have bad taste.. eli roth is a brilliant director and is improving with every movie. whether or not we need this i aint gonna complain. the hostel movies are great fun and put any other "torture porn" movie to shame. u need to learn how to enjoy some good film making. roth is the best horror director out there

Liked the first one, didn't care much for the second. But the idea of this being the Hangover gone wrong is extremely appealing. That 17 million for the sequel is only domestic by the way. Take into account foreign sales, dvd sales, and its low enough budget, and Hostel 2 made money. Also, I hate when people call it torture porn. The violence is to underline the brutality of the villains, not to get viewers off. I believe calling it torture porn is disrespectful to people like me who occasional enjoy films like The Descent, Cabin Fever, and the first Hostile.

The hostel movies were entertaining, more so then them dawn Saw movies which need to die, like now! Horror movies are more then just blood and guts (though there is a lot of bad ones out there that focus too much on that). Still the 80's had some of the best ones. In a nut shell, if you can pull off somewhat of a plot and make it creepy (like Ju On) without over doing the gore, then you got a movie that might make horror fans happy.

The Hostel series eats the ass out of a dead horse. No entertainment value (unless you are one truly sick puppy), no artistic value, and no message worth repeating. Time is better spent watching bottom-feeding tripe like Freddy Got Fingered...

By the way...Eli isn't directing this...just producing. So he puts up some money and gets him name in the credits. His choice to be involved in this shit, and I for one think less of him because of it.

I agree, the only value was the one girl in the first one that was ridiculously attractive.

I keep on being horrified and disgusted by the way mainstream cinema keeps on celebrating sadism, ultraviolence and death rather than sex, love, fun and - ultimately - life. Hollywood has become so twisted and perverted in its money-grabbing priority that it invests (heavily) into violence-and-death movies and TV series rather than showing (healthy, happy) people having (healthy, happy) sex. The proof? How many Hostels, Saws, Nightmares, Halloweens, CSIs, Mediums, Bones, etc. for one "Hot tub time machine" or "Sex and the City"? This is hypocritical perversion at its best. And what's more worrying is that no one seems to notice or care...

first of #9 you listed tv shows and the reason there are so many crime tv shows is they are easy to create tension in, its much harder to create an interesting compelling plot when everything is hunky dory so mentioning series is a tad random, the american public has spoken happy shows such as my name is earl or pushing daisies dont sell, thats just business sense. And your movies thing is a bit odd as well i mean you failed to mention the plethora of rom-coms (most being terrible but thats neither here nor there) so yopu really dont have much of a point, all these films exist for a market which clearly exists or they wouldnt make it to a sequel 😛 Leap Year (2010) Valentine's Day (2010) When in Rome (2010) She's Out of My League (2010) The Bounty Hunter (2010) The Back-Up Plan (2010) Sex and the City 2 (2010) Going the Distance (2010) The Switch (2010) Life as We Know It (2010) How Do You Know (2010) You Again (2010 Valentine's Day (2010) thats just this year. and if you disagree with any of these, then i state right now i copy and pasted from wikipedias rom-coms. I could have gone further and included most animated movies, most dramas and a hell of a lot of comedies. sorry for the rant but i felt i needed to stand up for common sense, i personally dont like these torture porn movies but their entertainment for someone and as such should be left to do that its their creative license to create such things and creativity (if you can call this tripe that) shouldnt be stifled because offends those of weak will. Its people like you which give the gaming industry a hard time just because of the few problem children it has.

I enjoy a good horror film, but Hostel is just sick and for the ADHD crowd,,,gore for the sake of it, gratuitous or whatever,,,a sad reflection of what we have become....I for one wont be seeing it, if you enjoy it, well ,then knock yourself out.

Please stop using the term "torture porn" it's silly and inappropriate!

Alex C, While I agree that so many horror films are pre occupied with disturbing images, some of those films aren't about what you may think. Saw, at least the first one, had minimal gore outside of the foot cutting scene. It was all about the mystery and twist reveal really. Halloween (John Carpenters) wasn't about the gore, it was just a repercussion of Michael Myers. That may sound dumb, but what I mean is its not the focus or the point. Bones? Really. Not only is that not brutal, but the tone isn't even horror. Oh yes, and its a tv show. Your silly.

When the first one came out, i admit i enjoyed it. It was like a breath of fresh air at that time, in a weird way. However, the second one which was totally unnecessary, bombed big time for me. Now i just don't care.
  • lamar
DUDE, why are you hating? The first Hostel was one of the scariest and most sickening (in a good way) horror films ever made. Part II was also very good. I have yet to see a bad film Eli Roth has done.
  • Cineprog
I Shall await this film untill there is more information on this Project.

I think #4 said it most eloquently... it really is pure crap... and please spare us all that "brilliant director" sh*t...

Why do you people who have something bad to say feel you even have a place to say anything? Simple fact... If you cant handle watching it, then don't bother. Torture has been around, and has been a stimulant (sorry but true) for years and years and years. Why is Bondage and torture porn so vast on the internet? One reason... IT SELLS! It must also sell for a reason. That reason is simple, PEOPLE LIKE IT. Obviously the people who buy it like it, the people who direct it like it, and the people ACTING IN IT also enjoy it. The only true problem with a franchise like Hostile is people who complain because they cant handle it, or cry because they say it will make their kids sick people when they grow up. Kids are already sick little bastards. Female children are already little whores who pop out more babies than a Mexican in heat. By the age of 14, plenty of females have already had an abortion, and probably more. Come on, we live in a society where women are whoring themselves out on craiglslist! seriously, craigslist?!!! We have women who whore themselves out on internet sites to men who have money and are looking for a female (slut) to settle down with. Rich men bring poor sluts. Face it, women whore their body to get what they want, and the makers of hostile use torture to get what they want. Why did i spend all my time talking shit about women? Women are the typical ones who complain about this shit after they get finished with a trip to the mirror and say hey, I am a fat ugly bitch... wonder what i can fuck up for everyone else to make me happy. Worry about reality instead of bitching about fiction.

People call it torture porn because that is exactly what it is. Normal people don't enjoy watching this kind of horrid stuff happening. Only a twisted mind could find it "entertaining". Roth is a big baby too whining about people downloading films. Get over it you spoiled little porn director.
  • Lisa
The reason it is called torture-porn is the way torture is exploited. It doesn't have to include sex or nudity but it FOCUSES on the slow and intense act of torture.
  • Ron
Not much difference between snuff porn and pretend snuff porn. This is the kind of film the New World Order crowd loves to get the public ready for slaughter.
