New Cities & Dates Set for The Evil Dead's Big Screen Return
by Alex Billington
March 2, 2010
Last year we reported that Sam Raimi's horror classic The Evil Dead would be returning to the big screen in a series of midnight screenings coordinated by Grindhouse Releasing. Apparently they've been running some screenings already that we somehow missed, as ShockTillYouDrop posted an update from Grindhouse talking about the current status of the re-release. However, the good news is they've just secured a brand spankin' new 35mm print of Evil Dead (that they're calling "the director's 35mm print") that will premiere this weekend in Los Angeles. From there they embark on a 15 city tour with the new print across the US.
"Demand for the movie [so far] led us to make a new print," they said. For a listing of cities and dates, visit the Grindhouse Releasing website. Locations include: Los Angeles, Washington DC, Houston, Austin, Providence, Albuquerque, Chicago, St. Louis, Grand Rapids, Poughkeepsie, and Cleveland. It looks like Austin gets the best deal, as one theater there is running the entire Evil Dead trilogy back-to-back. Additionally, the tour includes an "all-new horror trailer show" along with the new print and an exclusive poster. If you live in any of those 15 cities, this is one of those movies you just need to see on the big screen!
"Our plan is to keep Evil Dead playing in theaters throughout 2010." Hopefully can keep it playing for years to come and for new generations to discover and enjoy. Do yourself a favor and catch one of these midnight shows, I'm certain you'll have a great time. For more details and event dates, visit: grindhousereleasing.com.
