Paul Verhoeven

We've previously heard about a few different projects with this filmmaker involved, and now we can add yet another one into the mix. Having previously directed films like Showgirls and Basic Instinct, director Paul Verhoeven is no stranger to the erotic, and it looks like he is headed back to the same territory. Deadline says Verhoeven has made a deal to direct Eternal, a supernatural thriller described as Fatal Attraction, but with a "succubus temptress." The idea and script comes from David Loughery, behind the sensual thriller Obsessed. Production is slated for next summer, but it's not clear if this will be Verhoeven's next project.

In the story, after a recovering alcoholic stops a woman from jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge, they end up sleeping together and creating quite the spicy love affair. Upon returning home, his wife confronts him along with a private investigator who has photos to catch him in the act. However, the photos only show him alone drinking the night away with his mistress nowhere to be found. Though at first he thinks himself crazy, he discovers that his lover is a ghost who is after his soul. Yep, homeboy fucked a ghost. Sidney Kimmel Entertainment is producing along with A Bigger Boat, Greene Street Films and Sparkler Entertainment. Sound interesting or just plain silly?

Sounds intriguing, actually! This could go either way, from downright ridiculous to a pulse-pounding ride if done right. I believe Verhoeven is perfect for this flick. I hope he does direct this! :)

Btw you can really tell the average age of the readers on this site by what the more popular topics to comment on are...I'm 26, which I'm guessing is more than 6 years older than the average reader on here, just a guess by how many people don't respond to older director's wotk like this or director's who haven't put out a hit film in a decade or more. Rock on Paul Verhoeven!
  • I loved his work in Starship Troopers and everything before!

It's always nice to know that Paul Verhoeven is considering some new projects. it was very painful to know that he renounced to direct the movie version of BORIS AKUNIN'S AZAZEL...a movie he tryed to make for a lot of time. this ETERNAL doesn't sound as the best project in the world (SURROGATES or HIDDEN FORCES or the videogame movie set in 1914 or the movie set in Dutch golden age seemed more interesting), anyway I hope to watch a new Verhoeven's flick soon!!!

Verhoeven is a true bad ass. Anything this guy directs is golden pure entertainment, from Basic Instinct to Black Book, Robocop, Starship Troopers, he never lets me down.

Verhoeven is sorely missed in Hollywood. I don't blame him for leaving after Showgirls and Hollow Man, but RoboCop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers are some of the best genre films ever made.
