Later this year audiences will be privy to some drama inside the boxing ring with David O. Russell's highly anticipated The Fighter. However, it looks like some laughs will be thrown along with punches as Deadline reports director Peter Segal (Get Smart, Tommy Boy) will helm Grudge Match, a boxing comedy from writer Tim Kelleher. This sounds like Grumpy Old Men meets Rocky with a story about two bitter boxing rivals who are coaxed back into the ring for a grudge match 50 years after they last fought for the title. A wild casting rumor recently popped up, but we held off spreading it. Keep reading to find out who might face-off in this comedy.
Production Weekly mentioned via Twitter that Sylvester Stallone (Rocky) and Robert De Niro (Raging Bull) may be the aged boxers to throw punches in Grudge Match. Though the cast seems a bit obvious and a bit of a pipe dream, the prospect of Jake La Motta vs. Rocky Balboa is quite enticing. As of now this is only a rumor, and there are plenty of veteran actors who could step into the ring. Deadline likes the idea of Morgan Freeman facing of against Jack Nicholson in a complete contrast to their turn in The Bucket List. However, since the characters are said to be in their 60's, how about Harrison Ford vs. Tommy Lee Jones to call back to The Fugitive? That's my two cents. Who do you want to see in Grudge Match?
