Ridley Scott's Monopoly Movie Hoping to Be Ready by 2012?

I wish we could report that this unnecessary board game adaptation was dead, but unfortunately it's not. It's alive and well and it sounds like it's one of Ridley Scott's next projects once he gets Robin Hood and the Alien prequel out of the way. MTV recently talked with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner about all kinds of things, but only published quotes on the Monopoly movie so far. Goldner really only confirms that it's still aiming to be ready by 2012. "Ridley is still on-board and wants to be part of this and we're very excited about this, probably for 2012... 13... somewhere in the future," Goldner said. Even I don't want to see this movie at all.

"The great part about Monopoly is the history, literally the history of the creation of the brand and the fact that the brand is 75 years old so you have this great opportunity for the real history as well as the fictional history to tell stories of families and characters," Goldner explained. He's just speaking highly about his own products, so don't let him persuade you that this could be good. Interestingly, he also says that the draft of the script written by Pamela Pettler is "great," but may not be "all there yet." Back in November, we wrote an article on what the Monopoly movie's story would actually be about and it sounds pretty bad. Hopefully they get some good writers in to at least make this entertaining once it hits theaters in 2012 (or in 2013).
