Terence Stamp and John Hurt Lead 'Ultramarines' Voice Cast
Although this upcoming animated Warhammer 40,000 movie is going straight-to-DVD, I'm a big fan of the games and promised to keep everyone updated, so here's the latest news. Ultramarines is a sci-fi thriller that will use CGI and state-of-the-art animation production techniques. The official blog has just announced the voice cast for the movie which will be lead by Terence Stamp and John Hurt and also include Sean Pertwee, Steven Waddington, Donald Sumpter and Johnny Harris. "We're delighted that such a great cast, with so much talent, is on board. Together they bring the highest calibre of performance to Ultramarines."
Unfortunately they don't reveal what roles these actors will be playing, but I'm sure we'll find out eventually. Codex Pictures is using state-of-the-art facial capture technology as well, so it's not just their voices we'll be hearing and seeing in this. Speaking about the news, Terence Stamp said, "I [feel] very comfortable with Ultramarines - in fact, it's really the culmination of a lot of things I've been in." I'm not exactly sure what he means, but he's been in all kinds of movies from Superman I and II to Valkyrie to Wanted to providing the voice of the Prophet of Truth in Halo 3. I think they've definitely lined up an impressive voice cast for this.
Codex Pictures also debuted a video featuring some of these actors talking about being a part of the movie - which you can watch below or on YouTube. As far as we know, there hasn't been a plot synopsis revealed for Ultramarines yet, so we don't know much about the story. But as a recap on the concept, Ultramarines is a film based on the elite force of Space Marines from the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop miniatures universe. The faction is known as the "Ultramarines", identified by their blue colored armor and omega symbol (Ω). The screenplay was written by author Dan Abnett and production (on the animation) has already started.
